comforted by the knowledge that they are loved by You and by

EUCHARIST: Basic Ques ons on the Source and
Summit of the Catholic Life
What does the word Eucharist strictly mean?
A. The word Eucharist strictly means pleasing, and this
Sacrament is so called because it renders us most
pleasing to God by the grace it imparts, and it gives us
the best means of thanking Him for all His blessings.
What is the Holy Eucharist?
A. The Holy Eucharist is the Sacrament which contains
the body and blood, soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine
What do we mean when we say the Sacrament which
contains the Body and Blood?
A. When we say the Sacrament which contains the
Body and Blood, we mean the Sacrament which is the
Body and Blood, for a er the Consecra on there is no
other substance present in the Eucharist.
When is the Holy Eucharist a Sacrament, and when is
it a sacrifice?
A. The Holy Eucharist is a Sacrament when we receive
it in Holy Communion and when it remains in the Tabernacle of the Altar. It is a sacrifice when it is offered
up at Mass by the separate Consecra on of the bread
and wine, which signifies the separa on of Our Lord’s
blood from His body when He died on the Cross.
When did Christ ins tute the Holy Eucharist?
Christ ins tuted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, the night before He died.
What happened when our Lord said, “This is my body; this is my blood”?
When Our Lord said, “This is my body,” the substance of the bread was changed into the substance of His body; when He said,
“This is my blood,” the substance of the wine was changed into the substance of His blood.
When did Christ give His priests the power to change bread and wine into His body and blood?
Christ gave His priests the power to change bread and wine into His body and blood when He said to the Apostles, “Do this in
commemora on of Me.”
How do the priests exercise this power of changing bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ?
The priests exercise this power of changing bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ through the words of consecra on
in the Mass, which are words of Christ: “This is my body; this is my blood.”
What is necessary to make a good Communion?
To make a good Communion it is necessary to be in the state of sanc fying grace and to fast according to the laws of the Church.
What should we do a er Holy Communion?
A er Holy Communion we should spend some me in adoring Our Lord, in thanking Him for the grace we have received, and in
asking Him for the blessings we need.

PONIEDZIAŁEK, 25 MAJA — DZIEŃ PAMIĘCI NARODOWEJ
(MEMORIAL DAY)
Tradycja obchodów Memorial Day - Dnia Pamięci Narodowej w Stanach
święto nazywano Decora on Day, jako że
najpopularniejszą formą honorowania pamięci
poległych żołnierzy było ozdabianie kwiatami ich
grobów. Jest głęboko ludzką potrzebą
zachowanie we wdzięcznej pamięci wszystkich,
którzy zginęli dla swego kraju i rodaków w walce, w imię ideałów wolności i
niepodległości. Ta pamięć to część historii przekazywana z pokolenia na
pokolenie, to zbiorowa świadomość tożsamości narodowej.
Day.

B
oże w Trójcy Świętej Jedyny, Ty w
swojej niewypowiedzianej
dobroci powołujesz ciągle
nowych apostołów, aby przybliżali światu
Twoją Miłość. Bądź uwielbiony za to, że
dałeś nam opatrznościowego Pasterza
Stefana Kardynała Wyszyńskiego,
Prymasa Tysiąclecia.
Boże, źródło wszelkiej świętości, spraw,
prosimy Cię, aby Kościół zaliczył go do
grona swoich świętych.
Wejrzyj na jego heroiczną wiarę,
całkowite oddanie się Tobie, na jego
męstwo wobec przeciwności i
prześladowań, które znosił dla Imienia
Twego.
Pomnij, jak bardzo umiłował Kościół
Twojego Syna, jak wiernie kochał Ojczyznę
i każdego człowieka, broniąc jego
godności i praw, przebaczając wrogom,
zło dobrem zwyciężając.
Otocz chwałą wiernego Sługę Twojego
Stefana Kardynała, który wszystko
postawił na Maryję i Jej zawierzył bez
granic, u Niej szukając pomocy w obronie
wiary Chrystusowej i wolności Narodu.
Ojcze nieskończenie dobry, uczyń go
orędownikiem naszych spraw przed
Tobą. Amen.
Pokornie Cię błagam, Boże, udziel mi za
wstawennictwem Stefana Kardynała
Wyszynskiego tej łaski, o którą Cię teraz
szczególnie proszę...
Szanowny Księże Proboszczu,
Szanowny Panie Prezesie,
Pragniemy serdecznie podziękować za wsparcie kwotą $1,300 dzieła Domu
Pamięci Stefana Kardynała Wyszyńskiego w Częstochowie. Jesteśmy
wzruszeni wiernością parafian kościoła św. Ferdynanda i członków Klubu
Przygotowujemy
pielgrzymów i osoby zainteresowane postacią Ks.
Film ten wyreżyserował i scenariusz napisał p. Paweł
Woldan, a muzykę skomponował p. Michał Lorenc. Film ten trafił w
świątecznym numerze katolickiego tygodnika „Niedziela” do 170 tys.
Czytelników. Film ten mógł powstać dzięki staraniom Domu Pamięci
Stefana Kardynała Wyszyńskiego, a więc również dzięki wsparciu Państwa.
Serdecznie raz jeszcze dziękujemy za pomoc i pragniemy zapewnić członków
Klubu Dobrego Pasterza i wszystkich Państwa, którym postać Księdza
Prymasa jest bliska, o naszej modlitwie u Matki Bożej Jasnogórskiej.
Szczęść Boże, Wiole a A. Kołodyńska—
Dyrektor Domu Pamięci Stefana kardynał Wyszyńskiego w Częstochowie

ON PENTECOST, AND PLAYING WITH FIRE
Copyright 2015 by John B. Reynolds ([email protected])
I remember thinking when I was a kid that the Holy Spirit got
the short end of the s ck in the whole Trinity thing. God the Father
is God the Father, a er all, and Jesus changed water into wine and
calmed the stormy seas and took the nails for us in keeping with
the great plan of salva on. But the Holy Spirit? Or if you have a few
years behind you--as I do--the Holy Ghost? Kind of a shadowy character, the Spirit. But I mean that in only good ways. When commissioning his friends in Ma hew’s Gospel, Jesus directs them to make
disciples of all na ons, “bap zing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Nice. But, it doesn’t tell us
anything about this Spirit en ty.
Jesus speaking in the Evangelist John’s Gospel clarifies be er for
me the Spirit’s essence. He does so mul ple mes, in fact. At the
Last Supper, Jesus tells his disciples, “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit
that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.” In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells
his friends a li le more, saying, “When the Advocate comes whom
I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds
from the Father, he will tes fy to me.” And then Jesus speaks a
third me to his disciples about the Spirit, this me just before
going to the garden: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot
bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide
you to all truth…”
I’m no Scripture scholar, but perhaps even the Scripture scholars
have trouble when it comes to the Spirit. “He will teach you everything.” “He will tes fy to me.” “When he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth...” The Spirit certainly sounds like a
person. But does “he” exactly define the Spirit as a person, even
though we recognize him as the third person of the Trinity? Listen
to Peter in Acts as he quotes the prophet Joel: “‘It will come to pass
in the last days,’ God says, ‘that I will pour out a por on of my spirit
upon all flesh. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young
men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams…’’ Here
the Spirit sounds less like a person and more like a force. The
breath of God, perhaps?
The Spirit is o en represented by images of fire. When we have
passion for something, we are said to be on fire, just like the disciples’ hearts were burning within them as Jesus spoke to them on
the way to Emmaus. And in today’s first reading, we hear of the
Spirit coming to the disciples: “Then there appeared to them
tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of
them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”
Older (and wiser?) now, I don’t think the Spirit gets the short end
of the s ck anymore. He doesn’t in my book, anyway. I’m a total
fan. “I have come to set the earth on fire,” Jesus says about halfway through Luke’s Gospel, “and how I wish it were already blazing!” Veni, Sancte Spiritus. Come, bring us your fire
