Bullying
By Emma Keever
People bully people all the time. Some of us just don't notice. When people
bully they don't know what it's making them look like. No one wants to be your friend
if you're going to be mean to them. Sometimes they forgive you just because they
are that nice. You dont know whats going on in there life. They may be having family
troubles. You never know why someone is acting a certain way. You may even be
making it worse. You're just adding to the pile they have to deal with. You also don't
know what they can do to themselves, it’s called self harm. They can cut or even kill
themselves. Think about how you would want to be treated. Life isn't fair we all
know, but don't go take your anger out on someone else. It doesn't give you a right
to just put someone down like that. You can help people who are getting bullied. Tell
an adult and help them through it. Just do this to try to make them happy. Get the
fact that they are getting bullied out of there. You could tell the bully to stop too. Bullying isn't cool! Some of you think it is but it isn't. You're not considered a “cool” person. You’re considered a bully too. Think about what you say and don't be a bully!!!

Junior High football
By: Brayden McGinity.
In this article I will tell you about the Junior High football team so far this season. This season we had a small
team. we had 21 kids on the team and most of them are 7th graders. We have 8 8th graders, and the rest are 7th graders. We have had 3 games at the time of writing this.
In this paragraph, I will tell you about the first games we played Rova. We lost that game we lost 24 to nothing.
We played bad it was a really bad. We did not play like we were there to win. That is about the first game.
In this paragraph I will tell you about the game against West Burlington and Notre Dame . We lost that game 22
to nothing. Nathan Bigger threw 5 interceptions. 2 of them were pic 6s. We held them to eight points till the 4th quarter.
Then it was all downhill from there. That is about the second game.
In this paragraph I will tell you about the third game. The third game was at Kewanee. We played the ducks and
got beat 32 to 0. It was even worse than the first two games.
So in conclusion this has been an article of the junior high football team
Basketball
By: Joey Sherman
West Central boys basketball is about to start. We have been waiting for this for a while. Everybody is excited
for basketball to start. I think that our practices will go well and our games too. We might lose some games but I hope
we win a lot of our games this year. I play down at the block every year that is my favorite spot.
I hope during our practices we don’t goof off or mess around because it really reflects into our games. In
basketball we do a lot of running during our games. Our first game is November 10th,2015. In our practices we will do
triangle shots on offense.
The offense will be shooting from the elbow, block, and three pointer. We also will be doing layup drills we will
have people in different spots and they have to shoot a layup. When you shoot a layup on the right side of the basket
you have to lift your right leg and shoot with your right hand. If you shoot from the left side of the basket you do the
opposite of the right side. I might just see you on the court this season.
The Upcoming 7th and 8th grade boys basketball season
The first practice was October 20th. We did quite a few drills there. We went over some basic stuff and started off with full court layups. We did layups and jump shots on both sides. After that we did another jump shot and
layup drill. Everyone worked on defensive slides and we jumped up onto the first row of bleachers for a minute. Then
we finished off practice with sprints.
I expect we will do similar things in future practices. Our first game is November, 10th. We have a total of 26
players on the 7th and 8th grade teams. Here is the roster.
8th grade:
Mitch Brent, Colin Hennenfent, Talon Root, Kyle Carico, Wes Stewart, Dylan Gibbs, Nate Bigger, Landon Beelman,
Braydon Vancil, Dylan Dermer, John Steck, and Eric Rathbone.
7th grade:
Holden Hiatt, Shane Maynard, Austin Parsons, Jordon Roller, Spencer Jack, Brandon Olson, Max Carnes, Matt Johnson, Brayden McGinity, Joey Sherman, Chandler Dowdall, Xavier Seeley, Jamison Mills, and Tiegan Cox.
For awhile I think we will just be going over basic stuff and conditioning. Once everyone knows what they are doing I
think we will start going over offenses and defenses. That way everyone has an idea of what they will be playing. This
is all I know about the season so far, I will update you more next time on “The Heat Wave”.

Girls Basketball Pink Out Game- Playing for a Cause
By Sadie Lenz
The West Central Pink Out basketball game was a success. The basketball team did a pretty
good job putting it together on such short notice. In the four days we had, we put together multiple
different activities and ways to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Jessica Smith and Courtney
Torrance were the two main people that put it together. We even put up posters and pink banners and
balloons to spread the word.
First off, both the seventh and eighth grade teams played great in their games. We played West
Prairie. The score of the seventh grade game was 29 to 10. The score of the eighth grade game was 39
to 18. In the seventh grade game the leading scorer was Laurel Beelman with 9 points. Mady Reed took
two charges. Mona Patlan had the most rebounds. In the eighth grade game the leading scorer was
Mady Reed with 13 points because she played up. Some of the other seventh graders also played up for
the eighth grade game. Carley Lafary had the most rebounds in that game. The players all wore pink
socks to show their support for Pink Out. Overall, both teams did really good.
The pink out theme was a great idea. They had a lot of contests and activities at half time. They
had a three point contest, a duck contest, and raffle tickets. If you won the raffle contest, you got to
participate in the three point shooting contest. Jason Ford, Doug Smith, Matthew Johnson, and Landen
Beelman won the raffle. Jason Ford and Matthew Johnson tied with 7 three pointers in the contest and
moved on to the red volleyball line before the half court line. Jason Ford ended up winning that. They
also had a contest for the person that wore the most pink; Emijah Jones won that. The last contest they
had was the duck contest where they threw pink rubber ducks to the crowd that either said “hope” or
“winner” on the bottom. If it said “winner” they got a prize bucket. Landen Beelman and one of the
player’s parents won that competition. The contests helped make it a lot more fun, though.
Last but not least, our grand total for overall money raised was X. The money
will be going to one of the cancer societies, like St. Jude's, Relay for Life, Ronald
McDonald house, or even local cancer charities. The whole point of the Pink Out night
was to raise money and awareness of breast cancer, because October is the national
breast cancer awareness month. The pink out game was a big success, and I hope we
do it again next year.
Dog Hunting
By: Dylan Link
Dog hunting is way different than just using a gun and putting your light on the coon and shooting it.
No, it is way different. You have to find the right dog and there can be some
tragedies. Some tragedies could be, getting your dog trapped and having
your dog hit, stolen, or even someone shooting your dog. In Dog hunting
you can have a bunch of different dogs but i normally hunt walkers. There
are a coon hounds, I love them they're a very good looking kind of dog.
You normally can go dog hunting for all kinds of stuff but raccoons are the
most common animal to dog hunt for. There are a bunch more like deer,
rabbits, fox and some people use dogs to hunt for bear, cougar and a
bunch of other animals. Hunting for raccoons with a dog is not hard but it
takes time and effort. Sometimes you have to walk 20 miles for the dog, but
when to get to the tree it sometimes all pays off. Almost 9 times out of 10
you hunt at night for raccoons because the raccoons normally move at
night. Dog hunting is fun you should try it some time.
Ace
By Harley Hale
The score in volleyball is usually supposed to go 25 points, in the middle of the game the team switch
sides of the gym and they play the rest of the game. There are 4 ways to hitting a volleyball the right way, one is
a bump, to bump a volleyball you put one of your hands in a fist and wrap your other hand around the hand that
is in a fist, then you put your thumbs side by side and that is one way to bump. You can put one hand straight
out and overlap the other then put your thumbs together and hit the ball that way. Two is a set, a set is when
the ball is right above your head and you try to save it that is when a set is very useful because you what a set
is, it is like you are using your hands as moose ears and you pretty much just set the up and to another player.
Three is a spike, and what you do to spike is you firm your hand and hit the volleyball down and try to hit the
ball down and over the net. Sometimes when spiking you have to jump up, to get more power while spiking you
pull your hands back and bring whichever hand you spike with forward and hit the volleyball with force. Four is
the most important out of all, a serve, when or if the ball hits the ground you always start out with a serve, what
you do is you rest the ball on your hand, the you put your other hand in a fist, you swing that hand up and hit
the ball you have to make it over the net or it is the other team’s ball. If you make it over and no one hits the ball
then that is a score for your team and you get to serve again. If that does happen it’s called an ace. If the game
is a tie then sometimes there is another game for a tiebreaker but it usually overall ends in a tie between the
two teams. When serving, if your doesn’t go over the net then the other teammates can’t help the ball over the
net, like if you were hitting the ball back and forth but it would be the other team’s ball and point.
Agriculture
By Mady Reed
Agriculture is used all over the world. Another word for agriculture is farming. There are two different
types of Agriculture. The first one is sustainable agriculture, and the second one is conventional agriculture.
Conventional farming means “Methods of farming which include the use of synthetic chemical fertilizers,
pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified organisms.” Sustainable farming means “production of food,
fiber, other plant or animal products using farming techniques that protect the environment, public health,
human communities, and animal welfare.” Agriculture is nature's food and the rechanneling of energy for
human and animal consumption. Or: Agriculture involves redirecting natures natural flow of the food web.
Whats food web you may ask? It is a source that helps the crops get sunlight for them to grow. The agricultural crops that are produced in the US are corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa. These are major crops that
get the farmers a lot of money. Farmers are the main ones that use agriculture. Agriculture isn't just crops, it
can also be animals too. There's dairy animals which are cows and goats. Livestock is another part of agriculture. It involves all the common agricultural animals that you would think of. Some that you might think of
are sheep, cows, donkeys, horses and others. I hope that you learn about agriculture about it now!

My Horse
By: Lillian Jacobs
My horses name is Gerald. When we first got him, my dad got him 16 years ago. We got him for my sister originally but she never rides him, so he is mine now. My dad said that when he was a baby he was ugly. My dad didn’t
want him at first.
He has had some injuries, when he was younger he ran into a tree branch and it went into his chest. The
branch was 2 inches away from his heart. He ran into a post and made a wound on his head. You could see his skull. He
got his foot caught in barbed wire. His foot was cut up, and you could see his ankle bone. He cut something in his ankle
that made him limp. He broke his withers (Bone that connects to the back of the neck) when he rolled.
I also got him to barrel race. Ever since he cut his ankle he wasn’t able to run. He used to run barrels before he
got hurt. A couple of weeks ago I started to work with him to trot the barrels. He finally started to do them and he only
trotted, which is good for him.
Canter is a movement that is faster than a trot. When he got hurt, he wasn’t able to canter. I gave him some
medicine. He started to feel better. When he finally got better I was able to canter him.
This is the story that sums up my horses life.
Rabbits
By Jamie Carrol
This week i decided to do an article about rabbits. A female rabbit is called a doe, a male
rabbit is called a buck and a baby rabbit is called kit [or kitten]. Rabbits live in groups of other rabbits. The European rabbit lives underground, in burrows. A group of burrows is know as a warrn. More than half of the world’s rabbits live in
NORTH America. Rabbits have long ears which can be as long as 10cm [4in]. Rabbits live a life span of around 10
years. Rabbits are herbivores[ plant eaters]. Pet rabbits that live inside are often referred to as house rabbits. Rabbits
reproduce very quickly this can be a headache living in agricultural areas where rabbits are seen as house rabbits. Rabbits are born there eyes closed and with no fur and when they are born they never leave their mother's side until they
are big enough to go out in the world alone and they can also hop faster then any one can run. When you take good
care of a rabbit it can live up to 7 to 12 years. Rabbits are challeng pets, the rewards of having a happy, health house
and rabbits are well worth the effort. The most important element in a rabbit's diet is hay. This is all about rabbits so i
hope you like it.

The Martian: Movie Review
By Sofia
Going to Mars is huge, but being alone there for 500 days would probably be worse. “The Martian
is one of the movies where you see so many famous actors and immediately recognize them. Matt Damon played the lead. There were many other great actors too. For example, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels,
and Kristen Wiig; all of which played serious characters. Kristen Wiig was very surprising, because I’ve
never seen her play a serious, intense role; she’s mostly a comedian. Of course it’s hard after you’ve
seen a movie you love, to imagine anybody better. In the movie, Matt Damon plays character Mark Watney, an astronaut who was left on Mars. So many things went wrong that you never knew how he could
go go on. Space is unpredictable and unattainable. “The Martian” was loud, freaky and very eventful.
There were explosions, and other scenes where you just couldn’t watch. There were also parts where it
was so suspenseful that you just thought the screen would go black. The movie is now one of my favorites, and it got great reviews. I think that the critics were very lenient with how they rated the movie
though. It was originally rated PG 13, but I think that if the critics wanted it to pass as rated R, it could’ve.
I still thought it was awesome, but the filmmakers definitely pushed the limit on language and intensity.
The movie was surprisingly very hilarious. The movie had comedy and funny pokes at popular celebrities,
music, and TV shows. The movie will have you laughing until the next funny thing comes along. “The
Martian” is a great movie that you should go see.

Deborah Mathers was addicted to countless over the counter
drugs. She also sued him for defamation, defamation is
where you use media to destroy someone's reputation. If she
won she would have got 10 million dollars. She ended up
only getting 25,000. His dad Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr left
him and his mother when he was a few months old. He was
raised at home with his mom. He moved schools 2 or 3 times
a year and was a straight-A student. He was also bullied a
lot. He met his future wife Kimberly Ann Scott in high school.
He had his child Hailie Jade Scott Mathers with Kim. They
would later get divorced and remarried.
Eminem's career went from not so successful to very
successful. Eminem started off going to rap battles. He was
very good and even got 2nd in the Rap Olympics. He also
made mixtapes, one of them was called the Slim Shady EP.
It managed to make its way into Dr Dre’s hands, and that’s
where Eminem’s career took off. He went to California to
make an album. The name of it was The Slim Shady LP. He
went on to make more albums with Dre as his mentor.
Eminem now owns the record label, Shady Records.
Eminem's other groups, Eminem has had 2 groups. Bad
Meets Evil and D12. D12 stands for Detroit 12, their last
album was a greatest hits album called the shady XV. His
other group Bad Meets Evil. It is eminem and Royce Da 5’9.
Their latest album was in 2011.
This has been a look into Eminem’s personal life and his
career.
New Albums of 2015: Bush by Snoop Dogg
by Chandler Dowdall
This album has some very good songs and some very bad songs.
This album was released May 8th, 2015.
“California roll” is the first song on this album. It has a good beat, and it also has good lyrics. Stevie Wonder
is a featuring singer in this song. It is not the best song on the album, but it is very close. This song sounds
kind of like “Drop it Like It’s Hot one of Snoop Dogg’s better songs of the new rap era.
The second song on this album is “This City” it is the worst song on this album, it has very bad lyrics,
and the worst beat on the album. It has no featuring artists, and it sounds to much like techno to be a Snoop
Dogg song. That is why this is one of the bad songs. This couldn’t compare to the other songs on this album.
The third song on this album is “R U A Freak”. Just by the song title I could tell it wasn’t going to be
good. It actually had an ok beat, but it had terrible lyrics such as “I’m just a squirrel trying to get a nut.” which
made this song bad. Still it doesn’t have a featuring artist.
“Awake” is the fourth song on the album. Not the best beat, but it isn’t the worst. It had ok lyrics, and it
didn’t have a featuring artist. I think this is one of the better songs on the album. This is another song that
kind of reminded me of some of Snoop Dogg’s better music.
“So Many Pros” is the fifth song on the album. It had a good beat, but the lyrics were not good at all.
This song kind of sounded more like Funk music than it did rap. It had no featuring artist, and that’s why I say
this song is not good.
“Peaches n Cream” is the sixth song on the album, and it is my favorite. It has the best lyrics, and
second best beat. This song has Pharrell and Charlie Wilson as featuring artists. I think this song is the best
on the album. This is the first single on the album. It sounds kind of like some of his older songs which is why
I like this song.
“Edibles” is the 7th song on this album. This song has good lyrics, but a bad beat. It has TI as a featuring artist. I would say this song is ok, but it wasn’t anything special. There wasn’t anything that was really
good or bad.
The 8th song on this album is “I Knew That” this song has a bad beat, and very good lyrics. There
were no featuring artists. I am saying this is one of the bad songs on the album.
The 9th song on this album “Run Away” was not a good song. It had a very good beat, but the lyrics
were not good for a Snoop Dogg’s song. Gwen Stefani was a featuring artist in this song. This song again
was more of techno than rap. This could’ve been a good song without the techno like beat style.
The last song on this album is “I’m Ya Dogg” This song has the best beat on this album. It has very
good lyrics, and I would rank it as the second best song. Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross are featuring on this
track. The lyrics could’ve been better if Snoop Dogg sung more, but for most of it, it was just Kendrick Lamar
and Rick Ross.
I don’t think you should buy this album because there wasn’t enough good songs to make anybody want to
buy it unless you are Snoop Dogg’s biggest fan.
The Broadway review
By Raven Plate
Where is it you wonder, It is at 111 Broadway st, West Burlington Iowa zip code 52655. The
size is pretty decent not cramped at all. The cost is kind of expensive main entrees are $6.99 and
above.
How it tastes, It tastes amazing the only thing I tried is the elk burger and there clamstrips It was
amazing it had no gamey taste. It was a fairly long wait time but in the other hand there was a lot of
people there too.
What they have for the menu You say, I’ll tell you what they have. they have appetizers, salads, soups, burgers, wraps, signature sandwiches, entrees, comfort classics, sides, pizza and specialty pizza, and breakfast. Most of it is expensive.
They have TVs to watch sports on. They have a bar. They have food what most places don’t
usually have to offer. It is a bar and grill place. It has 2043 likes. on Facebook. They take reservations and open daily at 6am for breakfast. They have a late night menu. There lunch/dinner kitchen
hour on Sunday thru Thursday are from 11am to 9pm. Friday and Saturday hours are from 11am
thru 10pm.
In conclusion, It is pretty good restaurant to go too but bring money.
Gaming console...Then and Now
By Seth McKoon
This article is about the original gaming console of Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. The very first gaming
portable system was Nintendo. Created by Fusajiro Yamauchi. He started his company 1977 with the Colored
TV Game. There was 30 game console made by Nintendo.
on the first Nintendo the graphics were very poorly made with poor color and bland setting. But now for the
new Nintendo 3Ds xl you can see the game layout in 3 dimensions instead of 2 dimensions. The funny thing is
the Nintendo 64 sold more units then Nintendo 3Ds.The Nintendo 64 sold 500,000 in a month and the 3Ds
sold 450,000 in a month.
Now this paragraph will be talking about Microsoft Xbox console. The original Xbox was made by Boyd
Multerer in 2000.The graphics were alright but they were bland and had no detail like the new Xbox one the
was made in 2013.The graphics of the Xbox were very good. You can talk and play online with your friends
and other people
online.
Now this paragraph will be about the first PlayStation to the PlayStation 4. The first PlayStation was
created in 2000 by Ken Kutaragi. The graphics from the original
PlayStation were blockie a little slow and poorly animated. But for the PlayStation 4
a really big step forward. Great graphics and if someone wants to do something else
on the TV. You can look at the middle of the controller, you can play your game by looking
at the screen in the middle of your controller.
So this pretty much wraps up my article about “Gaming Consoles...then and now”.Until
later, You stay classy West Central 235.
