FACT SHEET – Towerlane Centre – A Single Free Standing Building, Airdrie, Alberta LEED Core and Shell (CS) v2.0 Certification This single free standing building, which forms part of Towerlane Centre, a shopping centre development, is occupied by TD Canada Trust and located at the intersection of Main Street and Centre Avenue in Airdrie, Alberta. It is owned and was developed by First Capital Realty Inc. (FCR) and obtained LEED Core and Shell (CS) v2.0 Certification in 2015. In keeping with FCR’s ongoing commitment to sustainable design and construction, this free standing building located at Towerlane Centre was constructed to LEED CS v2.0. The LEED CS v2.0 Certification comprises the base building design and construction of one building with 535 m² or 5,759 ft² in total. FCR did not construct or fit out the interior finishes or leaseholds of tenant premises; and as a result, they were not included in this LEED CS v2.0 Certification. However, mandatory agreements specify that tenants design and complete the interior of their leased premises in accordance with LEED requirements. Encourages green transportation through the allocation of preferred parking spaces for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles. Reduced heat island effect through the installation of highly reflective roof coating. MATERIALS & RESOURCES o o o Diverted 100% of construction waste from landfill. 20% of the total content of building materials, by value, was manufactured using recycled materials. 21% of materials, based on the total value of the project, was extracted and sourced locally. INDOOR ENVRIONMENTAL QUALITY WATER EFFICIENCY o Reduced water consumption by 47% by installing low flow plumbing fixtures. ENERGY & ATMOSPHERE o o o Prevented indoor air quality problems through the use of a Construction Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management Plan. Used adhesives, sealant, paints, and coatings having low volatile organic compound (VOC) content to minimize off gassing. Secured a one-year contract to supply 514% of the buildings’ power needs from renewable sources.
