Cristina is the parish secretary, receptionist, and I believe today she is rightfully called the assistant parish administrator. I truthfully don’t know what we’d do without her. So many of you have been assisted by her and she’s certainly lent a listening ear to the multiple difficult and problematic situations that come through the doors of St. Stan’s. We thank God for the gift of her life and for the twenty plus years she has served the people of St. Stanislaus Kostka. May the Lord bless her with health in mind, body, and spirit and many more years with us and among us. I am blessed and the parish is blessed having her at the helm. Happy Birthday Cristina! I wish to share a little update on my medical situation. I am extremely frustrated with the limitations I experience for now. I was told the chemotherapy has an accumulative effect which means the body is more debilitated as it further undergoes this therapy and indeed this is the case with me. I am writing from Rochester as I’m undergoing two days of chemotherapy. By the time you read this I will be back in the parish. I am here at the Mayo Clinic every other week for four to five days. I am having to accept with difficulty that I simply cannot keep the same schedule I had before all this began during Holy Week with surgery and now with the chemotherapy which began in May. My hope was to be in the parish and do everything I was accustomed to doing. For so many years I’ve kept a very tight schedule and literally kept that schedule seven days a week. For now this cannot be the case. I am certainly back in the parish and happy for this blessing. I just have to reconcile with the fact that for the next remaining five months I will be limited as to what I can do. I appreciate your prayers and your understanding. I am praying that God give me the strength to celebrate the Masses on Sunday and to do as much as physically possible for the good of the parish and for the good of others. So far God has granted me this grace. Our nation celebrates Independence Day July 4th. I fear our understanding of independence has deteriorated into an independence from God and the Commandments of God. Today, generally speaking, we embrace a false understanding of liberty. As St. Paul so wisely warned us, we must never give free reign to the flesh because such reign will naturally lust against the Spirit. Is this not the case today? We have been so blessed as a nation, but we squander the blessings and create all sorts of distortions and perversions to perpetuate the idolatries that move us closer and closer to cultural suicide. May the Lord save us from ourselves before it’s too late? For our part, let us live the faith with gratitude to God who has shown us the way to wisdom, intelligence, nobility, and dignity. He is our good beginning and our good end. In God we must live. As Cardinal Sarah of Africa entitled his book, God or Nothing, so it must be for you and me. Sincerely in Christ Jesus, Fr. – Párroco Guidelines for the Reception of Communion Copyright 1996, United States Catholic Conference. All rights reserved For Catholics As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the eucharist when we receive holy communion. We are encouraged to receive communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful to the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (CODE OF CANON LAW, CANON 916). A frequent reception of the sacrament of penance is encouraged for all. For Fellow Christians We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions that separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ’s prayer for us “that we may all be one” (JOHN 17:21) Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to holy communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (CANON 844 S 4). Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of communion by Christians of these churches (CANON 844 S 3). For Those Not Receiving Holy Communion All who are not receiving holy communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another. For Non-Christians We also welcome to this celebration those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ. While we cannot admit them to holy communion, we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family. STANISLAUS KOSTKA PARISH THE SANCTUARY OF DIVINE MERCY First Friday Evenings before Mass from 6 pm to 7 pm God speaks to us every day. You can hear Him if you listen. Contemplatives in Action is a group of men and women who are seeking to find “God in all things”. Through the Examen Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola we see how the Lord is working in our lives in the moments of each day. We contemplate the word of God. "Contemplation" is the word St. Ignatius used to describe the type of prayer he recommends in that part of the Spiritual Exercises where he shows us how to grow in intimacy with our Lord. After listening to the Gospel, we have a conversation about how the Lord is speaking to us and inviting us to respond through our actions.
