Chamber News The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce held its Quarterly Luncheon on June 9 at Mack’s Fish House. Carol Johnson, President of the Chamber Board of Directors, welcomed everyone and gave an update on chamber activities as well as upcoming events. Stan Lee, Director of Parks and Recreation, spoke on the progress and amenities of the Heber Springs Community Aquatics and Conference Center, which is scheduled to open July 6. Assistant and Stan Lee, Director As you drive down to Sandy Beach to enjoy the lake or the fireworks on July 3rd, please notice the NorthStar EMS Drive sign located across the street from the boat launch area. For the past seven years, the City of Heber Springs has generously allowed the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce to auction the street as a fundraiser at their annual banquet. This year, NorthStar EMS submitted the winning bid and will have their sign displayed until the 2011 banquet to be held in January. As you drive into the new Heber Springs Sports Complex, you will notice the street is named Red River Dodge Avenue. The City of Heber Springs graciously allowed the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce to auction the street naming opportunity to the highest bidding business. This year, Red River Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep placed the winning bid. Vie for the “Pride of the Fleet” award or the notorious “Titanic Award”, battle it out in a Tug of War contest, the kids dig for Treasures, Sandsculpting contest or enter the volleyball tournament. Visitors can stuff themselves in the World Championship Watermelon Eating Contest. However, nothing is over until the Cardboard Boat Demolition Derby.
