PASTOR’S REFLECTION
Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 26, 2014
Dear Friends,
We pray that the God of love help us to search out
the path that truly leads to Him by following the
examples of love that He has given to us, above all
the example of His Son our Lord Jesus.
*Who in your life has served as a model of genuine love that I have sought to imitate?
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen
you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you
and your dear family abundantly each day. Please
pray for me.
In Christ,
Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro

PLEASE PRAY FOR
VOCATIONS
Heavenly Father,
We ask your help so we may guide and encourage our children to believe that they
each have a special calling and to use their
gifts and talents for others.
We pray, that our children will discover
and respond enthusiastically to your desire
for them whether it be to the vocation of single, married, ordained or consecrated life.
We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus
through the grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

JUSTICE CORNER
Love Leads to Action
In the gospel, Jesus affirmed that love of God and
love of neighbor are essential.
The reading from the book of Exodus gives very
clear instructions.
- Do not oppress aliens, widows and orphans.
- Do not demand interest from the poor when they
borrow.
Love is not just an emotion.
It moves us to care for those who are most in
need.
It calls us to consider other people’s needs and not
just our personal economic security.
It calls us to be in solidarity with people in need
and see things from their perspective.
It calls us to learn from each another and be t
ransformed.
Love leads to action. Catholic Social Teaching
reminds us of God’s preferential love for the
poor. To learn more visit www.usccb.org and
search for “Seven themes of Catholic Social
Teaching”.

"…The main reason [a priest] has been
ordained is because of the Eucharist.
So true is this that if we would specify the
heart of the priesthood we would have to
say it is the Eucharist:
The Eucharist as Presence, and the
Eucharist as Sacrifice."
Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
Come and adore the Holy
Eucharist and pray a rosary
on the World Day for
Vocations at 9:00 p.m.!!

ALL SOULS NOVENA BEGINNING
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2
Part of our privilege and responsibility is to
pray for the dead. The Church devotes the
month of November to prayer for the Holy
Souls in Purgatory and all those that have
gone before us. Participation in the Mass
of All Souls Day and the Novena is a good
way to begin the month. Remembrance
envelopes are available in the Parish Office
and in the Bookstore.
A MINUTE IN THE CHURCH;
ONE MINUTE CATHOLIC
APOLOGETICS
Apologetics- the branch of theology concerned with
the defense and rational justification of Christianity
(in our case, Catholicism).
Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone
who asks for a reason for your hope. 1 Peter 3:15
Faith and Works
Since it was founded by Jesus nearly 2000 years ago,
the Catholic Church has always taught that without
faith in Jesus, there is no salvation. The Catechism of
the Catholic Church states it very clearly. In paragraph 161 it says, “Believing in Jesus Christ and in
the One who sent Him for our salvation, is necessary
for obtaining that salvation.” And again in paragraph
181 “Faith is necessary for salvation.” It then quotes
Jesus’ word from Mark 16:16.
The Church has never taught that a person can get to
heaven solely on the basis of their good works.
But do works play a role in our salvation? According
to the Scriptures they do. James 2:24 says,
“See how a man is justified by works and not by faith
alone.” The Scriptures peak again and again about
how we will be judged on the basis of our works. But
no amount of works, apart from faith in Christ, will
do us any good. Our salvation is “by grace through
faith, working in love.”
