A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING
Today’s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite of many. We can
identify with all the major figures and their crisscross of emotions. The father’s initial grief over his young son’s avarice is turned to relief at his return.
The son’s grief over his loss of fortune, family, and friends is turned to delirious joy at the sight of his father.
We understand the eldest son’s bewilderment over his father’s generosity.
For the older son, virtue seems not to be its own reward. For all his honorable toil and loyalty, there seems to be no celebration. The father, however, is
prodigal in his forgiveness and mercy. He expects the same generosity from
his older son. He wants all to rejoice when the lost one is found.
This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It’s time to pause, consider, and encourage
one another. We are the prodigal children heading home. We are the elder
siblings waiting with the eager Father, who scans the horizon. In Christ Jesus
we are reconciled to the Father and one another. In his death and resurrection

UN DOMINGO PARA ALEGRARSE
Pocas parábolas del Evangelio son tan queridas por el pueblo cristiano como
la del hijo pródigo. Nos podemos identificar con todos sus personajes, y con las
emociones que se entrecruzan entre ellos. El dolor del padre por la avaricia y desconsideración de su hijo se convierte en alegría al verlo regresar. El dolor del hijo
por haber perdido todo lo que tenía –dinero, familia, amigos– se convierte en
alegría delirante al ver como su padre lo recibe.
Pero también comprendemos el desconcierto del hijo mayor ante la generosidad de su padre. Para el hijo mayor, la virtud no es su propia recompensa.
Ha trabajado duro, y ha sido un hijo leal, pero eso no se celebra con fiestas ni
banquetes. Pero su padre es un padre pródigo, y prodiga su perdón y su misericordia. Y espera que su hijo mayor tenga esa misma generosidad. Quiere que
todos se regocijen porque el que estaba perdido ha sido hallado.
Este es un domingo para alegrarse. Es día de hacer una pausa, y de considerarnos y alentarnos unos a otros. Porque todos somos hijos pródigos, en el
camino de regreso al hogar de nuestro padre. Y debemos también ser hermanos mayores, pero hermanos mayores que esperan junto con el padre ansioso,
mientras vislumbra el horizonte. En Cristo Jesús nos vemos reconciliados,
con Dios Padre, y con nuestros hermanos. En su Muerte y Resurrección
hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida. Somos una nueva creación. Y esto nos

Story of the Prodigal Father
Historia del Padre Pródigo
Estimados Feligreses, un saludo fraterno a ustedes y a los miembros de
su familia. Fue una oportunidad de gracia para todos nosotros haber
hecho una buena confesión el pasado jueves en nuestra parroquia, de
hecho una preparación de mucha oración para la celebración de la Pascua. El cuarto domingo de Cuaresma se llama tradicionalmente Laetare
(Domingo Regocijo), las lecturas nos invitan a regocijarnos en la gracia
de Dios. El tema de regocijarse está muy bien esbozado en el hijo pródigo que vuelve a casa y redescubre el indulgente y gratuito amor de su
padre. Meditemos en los tres personajes de la parábola:
1) El hijo menor Arrepentido 2) El padre indulgente y 3) el hijo mayor.
Dear Parishioners, Fraternal Greetings to you and your family members. It
was a graceful opportunity for all of us to make good confession last Thursday in our parish, indeed a very prayerful preparation for the Easter Celebration. The fourth Sunday of Lent is traditionally called Laetare Sunday
(Rejoice Sunday) as the readings invite us to rejoice in God’s graciousness.
The theme of rejoice is beautifully sketched out in the Prodigal Son’s Coming Home and Rediscovering his father’s Forgiving and Gratuitous Love. Let
us meditate on the three characters of the parable: 1) The Repentant
Younger Son, 2) The Forgiving Father and 3) The Elder Son.
El hijo menor arrepentido: Quería la liberarse de su padre, pero pronto
The Repentant Younger Son: He wanted freedom from his father but
se dio cuenta de su locura del mal uso de la libertad y la de la experiencia
de la miseria. Cuando volvió en sí, reunió el valor suficiente para volver a
su padre y confesar su pecado. Él quería ser tratado como un sirviente .no como un hijo. Es la realización de su pecaminosidad, un punto de
partida para su conversión. De esta manera se convierte en el modelo
para los pecadores arrepentidos. "La Iglesia no es un museo de santos, sino un hospital de pecadores". Su vida se presenta como un
ejemplo de la fragilidad humana y la necesidad de perdón.
soon realized his folly of misusing freedom and experiencing misery. When
he came back to his senses, he gathered enough courage to return to his
father and confess his sin. He wanted to be treated as a servant not as a son.
It is a realization of his sinfulness, a starting point for his conversion. Thus
he becomes the model for repentant sinners. “The Church is not a museum of saints but a hospital of sinners”. His life stands as an example of
human fragility and need for forgiveness.
El Padre Pródigo: El padre en la historia representa a Dios el Padre,
who is generous and extravagant with His forgiveness and mercy. When the
younger son came and confessed his sins, he forgave him and kissed him. He
gave him new garments (a sign of honor) and a golden signet ring (a sign of
authority and trust) and sandals for his feet (a sign of reacceptance). The
killing the fatted calf meant that the entire village was invited for the grand
party given in his son’s honor. When the elder brother refused to join in the
party, the father went out to beg him to be reconciled with his younger
brother and to share in the father’s joy. The father remains an ocean of unconditional love and forgiveness.
que es generoso y extravagante con su perdón y misericordia. Cuando
llegó el hijo menor y confesó sus pecados, lo perdonó y le dio un beso.
Le dio ropa nueva (signo de honor) y un anillo de oro con sello (un
signo de autoridad y confianza) y sandalias para sus pies (una señal de
readmisión). El matar el becerro gordo significaba que todo el pueblo era
invitado para la gran fiesta en honor de su hijo. Cuando el hermano mayor se negó a unirse a la fiesta, el padre salió para rogarle que se reconciliara con su hermano menor y que participará en la felicidad del padre. El
padre sigue siendo un océano de amor incondicional y de perdón.
El Hijo mayor: No tenía sentimientos de simpatía por su hermano, él
estaba resentido, amargado y enojado. Estaba tan celoso de su hermano
más joven que nunca quiso volver a verlo. Él dirigió una serie de acusaciones contra su hermano pródigo, a quien veía como un rival. En lugar
de unirse a la fiesta, insultó públicamente y humillo a su padre. La enemistad y el odio eran como un cáncer en su alma.
Lecciones para nuestra vida:
1) Tiempo para el rejuvenecimiento espiritual: Gracias Dios por nuestra
prosperidad material. Al mismo tiempo, encontramos con mucha tristeza, el hambre espiritual que muy rápidamente está progresando por todas
partes en nuestra sociedad y en las familias. El uso de drogas, alcohol,
juegos de azar, el fraude, asesinatos, abortos, violencia, sexo antes del
matrimonio, la infidelidad conyugal, etc., son claras señales de hambre
espiritual que hace muchos hijos pródigos en nuestras propias familias.
De ahí que nosotros y nuestras familias necesitamos rejuvenecimiento
espiritual. El sacramento de la Confesión nos permitirá apresurarnos
hacia la Pascua para experimentar la alegría pascual en nuestra vida.
2) Tiempo de transformación: No alberguemos odio, conflictos, dolor
implacable, etc. en nuestra mente y corazón, este tiempo santo nos invita
a transformar el odio en amor, los conflictos en paz, las heridas en Sanación. San Pablo dice: "Dejaos reconciliar con Dios" Toda celebración
eucarística es una invitación para reconciliarnos con Dios, con nosotros
mismos y con todo el mundo. Vayamos a la casa de Dios tan a menudo
como sea posible, reconcíliense con el Padre que perdona, pidiendo su
indulto y perdón y así disfrutar de su banquete en el altar.
Que la alegría de Dios llene sus hogares, mentes y corazones en el tiempo de Cuaresma

The Prodigal Father: The father in the story represents God the Father
The Elder Son: He had no feelings of sympathy for his brother but he was
resentful, bitter and angry. He was so jealous of his younger brother that he
never wanted to see him again. He leveled a series of allegations against his
prodigal brother, whom he viewed as a rival. Instead of joining the party, he
publicly insulted and humiliated his father. Enmity and hatred was like a
cancer in his soul.
Lessons for our Life
1) Time for spiritual rejuvenation: Thanks to God for our material prosperity. At the same time we find very sadly spiritual famine very rapidly creeping
everywhere in our society and families. The use of drug, alcohol, gambling,
fraud, murders, abortions, violence, premarital sex, marital infidelity etc. are
clear signs of spiritual famine which makes lot of prodigal sons in our own
families. Hence we and our families need spiritual rejuvenation. The sacrament of Confession will enable us to hasten toward Easter to experience
Paschal Joy in our life.
2) Time for transformation: We harbor hatred, conflicts, unforgiving hurt etc
in our minds and hearts and this holy season invites us to transform hatred
into love, conflict into peace, hurt into healing. St. Paul says, “Be reconciled
to God” Every Eucharistic celebration is an invitation to get reconciled with
God, ourselves and everyone. Let us come to the house of God as often as
we can, be reconciled with forgiving Father, asking His pardon and forgiveness and enjoy His banquet at the altar.
May the joy of God fill your homes, minds and hearts in Lenten Season

Help children be aware of unhealthy behavior among others
Children have more opportunities to be out of your immediate sight
during the summer. It’s important to remind your child that if another
child or adult – including people they know and trust – try to touch
them inappropriately they should: Say NO and
GET AWAY from any person or situation that
makes them feel scared, uncomfortable or confused. Tell them to TRUST THEIR FEELINGS and be sure to TELL a trusted adult.
And it’s never too late to tell a trusted adult

Fourth Sunday of Lent
On Laetare Sunday, we rejoice as Luke’s Jesus proclaims that God
is boundlessly merciful. The parable’s prodigal son returns home, not
authentically repentant but desperate, having squandered on prostitutes
(or so his older brother claims) the inheritance wrongly demanded
while his father still lived. This selfish son is only spared ritual
“shaming” when the father “shames” himself, running to embrace
him, interrupting his prepared “act of contrition.” By doing so he challenges confessors, and all of us, to be signs, says Pope Francis, “of the
primacy of mercy always, everywhere, and in every situation, no matter
what.” Avoid the harshness of the elder son, Francis warns, “who
stands outside, incapable of rejoicing,” his judgment “severe, unjust,
and meaningless in light of the father’s boundless mercy” (Misericordiae
Vultus, 17). If John’s Gospel is proclaimed, the “religiously observant”
people there likewise serve to warn against harshly judging others, for
the physical blindness of the man they expel from the synagogue is
healed, while their own blindness of heart remains.

Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma
Este es el domingo Laetare, nos alegramos así como Jesús que en el Evangelio de Lucas proclama que Dios es infinitamente misericordioso. La parábola
del hijo prodigo que regresa a casa, no propiamente arrepentido sino desesperado,
después de haber gastado en prostitutas (como lo dice su hermano mayor) su
herencia que equivocadamente pidió a su padre aún vivo. Este hijo egoísta solo
piensa en un ritual seguro de “vergüenza” cuando su padre se “demerita” así
mismo al correr a abrazarlo, interrumpiendo su “acto de contrición” ya preparado. Desafiando a confesores y a todos nosotros, para ser signos de, dice el Papa
Francisco, “ser siempre, en todas partes, en cada situación y a pesar de todo, el
signo del primado de la misericordia”. Al evitar la dureza del hijo mayor, el
Papa Francisco nos advierte, “que se quedó afuera, incapaz de alegrarse, para
explicarle que su juicio severo es injusto y no tiene ningún sentido delante de la
misericordia del Padre que no conoce confines” (Misericordiae Vultus, 17). En
caso que se proclame el Evangelio de Juan el pueblo “religiosamente obediente” en
ese texto sirve como ejemplo para advertir de juzgar con dureza a los demás, el
hombre ciego que recobró la vista es expulsado de la sinagoga mientras que en
ellos su propia ceguera de corazón permanece.
