competitor sets
competitive sets: main screen
The Competitive Sets tab allows you to submit changes to an existing competitive set or request a new one. Competitive set
changes are not implemented immediately - they will need to be checked first by our Competitive Sets Department.
Please familiarise
yourself with the
Comp Set Guidelines.
competitive sets: main screen
If you see a screen like this (“view only”), you do not have the user permissions to change the competitive set.
competitive sets: choose a set
From the drop-down box at the top of the screen, choose either an existing competitive set or select “Add New Competitive Set.”
Additional fees will apply if you choose to add a new competitive set.
If a comp set displays “View Only,” you do not have the user permissions to change the competitive set.
These columns display the
percentage of the comp
set that is held by each
property in terms of hotel,
chain and parent company.
The rules for each are
explained in the Comp Set
Guidelines document.
These columns display
the participation of each
property by the type and
frequency of data submitted
(monthly, weekly, daily or
segmentation). Participating
properties are those that
have submitted data in any
one of the last three months.
competitive sets: current members
The top grid shows the properties in the current competitive set.
The bottom grid shows a list of the 30 closest participating hotels.
competitive sets: remove or add hotels
You may remove hotels from
the existing competitive set
by selecting them from the
list and clicking Remove
Selected Hotel(s).
You may add hotels to
your competitive set by
selecting them from the
list and clicking Add
Selected Hotel(s).
Click View Participation Details to see 36 months of data
reporting history for the 30 closest competitive set candidates.
Click the Print/Email
button to print, save
or email a copy of
the participation
response report.
competitive sets: remove or add hotels
As you add or remove hotels, various error conditions may appear in red. Room share and participation problems will also be highlighted in red.
Add or remove hotels to resolve any errors.
Click here to view Competitive Set Guidelines for a full explanation on how to select a competitive set.
competitive sets: property search
To find properties that are not listed
in the default list of the 30 closest
properties, click Search for Other Hotels.
In the Property Search window, you
can choose from several different
search methods to find other
candidates for your competitive set.
Make selections from one of the three
search columns: Closest by Scale,
Selected Criteria or Specific Hotel(s).
Your search results will then replace
the default list of the 30 closest
participants in the bottom grid.
competitive sets: review changes
When you are finished making changes
to your competitive set, click Continue.
This will allow you to review the
proposed competitive set and
send a message to STR (optional).
Then, select from this list of
request options.
• The first option, selected
by default, sends an email
detailing the requested
changes. If approved, a
request will be generated
and sent to our Comp Set
Department for further
checking and implementation.
• The second option sends
your request to STR only,
for the purpose of checking
your changes.
• The third option will allow
you to submit an order for
a one-time report using
the competitive set you
have selected.
If you have selected one of the first two options, click
the Submit Request button. Selecting the third option
will change this button to “Continue” which takes you
to your shopping cart containing the one-time report.
