PRESIDENT’S GREETINGS TO PERUVIAN
FRIENDS ON THEIR ANNIVERSARY.
On the 194th anniversary of the Independence of
Peru, the PCCC sends its fraternal greetings to the
Peruvian community in Ontario, and special
recognition to Peruvians who are part of an
extraordinary generation that helps to develop joint
ventures between Canada and Peru.
Within this framework of Peruvian holidays, the
Chamber renews its commitment to promote and
facilitate better business relations between both
countries, working on highly promising innovations
and reaffirm the deepest bonds of affection and
solidarity between the two partner nations.
The PCCC looks forward a continued friendship and
successful cooperation with Peru in the years to come.
Happy Independence Day!
PERU-CANADA BILATERAL
RELATIONS "AT THEIR BEST".
Bonds have been highly
strengthened over the past three
years.

Lima, Jun. 29. Bilateral relations between Peru and Canada are “at their best,” especially in
defense and education-related matters, Canadian Ambassador to Peru Patricia Fortier affirmed.
The diplomat added the bonds have been highly strengthened over the past three years due
to the leadership displayed by Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, Canadian Head of State David
Lloyd Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
She went on to add Peru is “achieving considerable changes at all levels and sectors.”
The Canadian Ambassador participated in the inauguration of the Peruvian Armed Forces
Higher Technological Institute on Saturday, where “high-generation” Canadian-crafted equipment will
be used.
Fortier indicated current Peruvian Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi and his predecessor, Pedro
Cateriano, “played an important role” in the execution of the corresponding project aimed at creating
the said institute, while “ensuring efficiency and promptness.”
The Ambassador affirmed Canada is "proud to participate" in such relevant initiative as this
education center.
The said institute will provide soldiers an opportunity to gain access to technical-professional
careers after having served in the Armed Forces, she added.
The ceremony was attended by Peru’s President Ollanta Humala, the President of the Council
of Ministers Pedro Cateriano and Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi. The event also saw the
participation of other Armed Force high-level officers.
PERU TO PARTNER WITH LEADING
COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE THANKS
TO TPP
Canada, with its dynamic immigration
policy, it’s a key partner.

Lima, Jul. 21. The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) Magali Silva said the
Peruvian market will be one of the most favored among those participating in the Trans-Pacific
Partnership Agreement (TPP), as it will allow the country to partner with leading nations worldwide.
Peru will join a huge market consisting of eleven other economies whose combined
purchasing power totals US$5.2 billion.
Peru sales to these eleven economies currently account for just 0.25% of everything they buy,
so the room for expansion is vast.
"Furthermore, the incorporation of our market to the TPP bloc will allow us to position
ourselves in the highest commercial standard and maximize our business opportunities," the minister
said.
Priority Partners
Silva stressed that "TPP members are priority partners for Peru."
"The United States is a leading world power and one of the greatest technological innovators,
while Canada is one of the most educated nations in the world with a dynamic immigration policy.
Mexico and Chile are also key partners of Peru in the Pacific Alliance," she noted.
The government official also noted the importance of TPP partners outside the Americas.
Australia and New Zealand are also first-world nations, too, and the only ones located in the
southern hemisphere. Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei are dynamic Southeast Asian
economies that have seen rapid progress in recent decades, from which we can learn a lot.
These economies have economic cycles linked with those of China and India, which lead the
growth of emerging countries.
"Finally, Japan, which is already one of Peru’s major trading partners, is one of the traditional
economic and technological powers of the world," Mincetur’s head said.
The Medals Story.
Pan Am and Parapan Am competition medals.

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am competition medals awarded for
gold, silver and bronze performances tell the rich story of the “People’s Games” through a
beautifully layered design that showcases innovation and inclusion. The Royal Canadian Mint
produced the medals using metals provided by Barrick Gold Corporation.
The medals design team was a collaborative process involving the TO2015 brand and
creative services team, the Royal Canadian Mint and artist Christi Belcourt. Belcourt is a Métis
visual artist who combined her fine artistry and storytelling skills, the innovative and unique
techniques of the Royal Canadian Mint and TORONTO 2015 brand elements. Belcourt has
won recognition for her work through numerous exhibitions and is a past recipient of awards
from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Chalmers Family Fund and Métis
Nation of Ontario.
The creative process led to a texture of playful, engaging and authentic elements
combining to welcome the world to its most multicultural city and a celebration fueled by
sport...United We Play!
The three irregular shapes layered on the front of the medals represent North America,
Central America and the Caribbean, and South America coming together as the Pan American
nations competing at the Games. The three layers on the front of the medal are raised—similar
to a medals podium—creating dynamic texture. On the medals’ reverse, the shapes are sunken
for a smoother finish and more formal presentation. These simple, curved shapes are inspired
by the TORONTO 2015 logo, reflecting the city’s name and friendly, accessible character.
The United We Play pattern is displayed on the middle shape, which combines sport
pictograms and play icons that represent participation, excellence and inclusion. This graphic
pattern inspires people to come together through sport. The medals’ design incorporates the
ancient technique of mokume gane, which requires a high degree of skill to fuse or “unite”
different alloys into one useable material while creating unique and artistic patterns. These
different patterns are created by repeating a process of high-speed carving, de-burring, forging
and shaping. The Royal Canadian Mint’s innovative approach in applying mokume gane to the
athletes’ medals results in each medal being truly one of a kind, while stylistically reflecting the
multicultural celebration of athletes and nations coming together.

The Peruvian Canadian Chamber Of Commerce - PCCC has decided that we are again joining
up with the Rotary Club of Toronto Sunrise this year to participate in a Golf Tournament.
The tournament will be held on Thursday, August 13 at the Rotary Ontario Golf Club located at
6378 Trafalgar Road, south of the 401 in Milton. The format of the tournament will be a fourperson scramble and the day starts at 11 a.m. with registration and a lunch to be followed by
dinner after the golfing is done. All proceeds coming to PCCC will go to Transforming Faces, one
of the charities we support.
To make this successful, we require golfers and sponsorships. As we are being included with
the Rotary Clubs participating, registration is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
So, if you want to participate and enjoy a day of fun and fellowship, please contact to Ms. Diana as
soon as possible at [email protected] or (289) 521-3400.
