special for the children and their families.

Spelling Bee Competition
Recently Fifth Class pupils took
part in a Spelling Competition.
Nawaal Ather, Sabika Ali Syed and
Danielle Power were the finalists
representing their class after
many rounds of spellings. The
school final took place with Nawaal
emerging as winner. Last week she represented
Scoil Thomais in the Regional Finals in the Red Cow
Hotel and was placed in the top ten.
A great achievement. Well Done Nawaal.
PARTY INVITATIONS & SCHOOL
If your child is having a birthday party we ask
that parents do not give party invitations to
children in schooltime and do not pass around
invitations when children are in their lines in
the yard. Children from the class who may not
be invited often feel very upset or left out!
It would help a lot if parents instead discreetly
gave the invites to an adult/parent of the child.
Trocáire Lenten Boxes
Thank you to all the children who
returned Trocáire Boxes to school on
Monday 23rd. The Trocáire team will
collect the boxes and in due course will
inform the school of the total amount
collected by school families.
World Book Day 2015
was a great success in
Scoil Thomáis with lots
of activities being
organised by teachers.
Events to mark the day
included pupils from
senior classes visiting junior classes to
read to them and Drop Everything and
Read (DEAR) time in many classes.
Many thanks to teacher Ms Lenihan
who co-ordinated the events for the
day and who also organised the very
successful BOOK SWAP initiative for
pupils which ran over two weeks.
Many pupils from all class levels
brought in books for the swap and
were able to take home other books
to read. There are still some lovely
books available for pupils to take
home from the SWAP BOOKCASE near
Geraldine’s office.

about the RSE (sensitive) lesson which will
be taught to pupils in April. Parents should
read this information carefully.
A short Information Meeting for parents
will be held on Friday 17th April at
9.15am for Infants and at 2pm for
1st/2nd Class. The purpose of the meeting
is to outline for parents the content of the
