Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Umiłowani w Chrystusie Siostry i Bracia,
Pope Francis reminds us in The Joy of the Gospel that the
good news of Jesus Christ creates in us real and las ng
joy - a joy the world cannot take away. But, he goes on
to say, there is even greater joy when we take up the
task of sharing Christ with others, for then we witness
how their lives are transformed in the encounter with
Him. All of this reminds us that we are, as the theme of
this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal tells us, Entrusted
with Responsibility.
Papież Franciszek przypomina nam w adhortacji Radość
Ewangelii, że dobra nowina o Jezusie Chrystusie daje nam
prawdziwą i długotrwałą radość - radość której świat nie może
nam odebrać. Ale papież idzie dalej mówiąc, że istnieje jeszcze
większa radość. Przychodzi ona wtedy, gdy bierzemy na siebie
dzieło dzielenia się Chrystusem z innymi, gdyż świadczymy
wówczas o tym, jak ich życie zostało przemienione przez spotkanie z Nim. To wszystko razem przypomina nam, że jesteśmy,
jak mówi nam hasło tegorocznej Dorocznej Kwesty Katolickiej,
Świadomi powierzonego nam obowiąku.
Parents know this joy of sharing the Gospel. It may come
in seeing a glow of wonder and awe on the face of their
child receiving First Communion, or as they bring their
family to the Christ child in the crib as Christmas and
watch as their children say a silent prayer.
Rodzice znają tę radość dzielenia się Ewangelią. Być może widzieli
ją w zadumie, blasku i w zachwycie na twarzy swoich dzieci,
przystępującyck do Pierwszej Komunii Świętej. Być może jest
ona obecna, kiedy zbliżają się całą rodziną do Dzieciątka Jezus
w żłóbku, podczas Bożego Narodzenia i kiedy widzą swoje
dzieci cicho odmawiające modlitwy.

joy promised to those Entrusted with Responsibility for
bringing Good News, especially to the poor among us.
Through the Annual Catholic Appeal we join hands to
take up this work collec vely as one Church to support
Catholic schools, parishes, religious educa on programs
and ministry forma on, and all the ini a ves for the protec on of life and the promo on of peace and jus ce.
The Appeal also funds Catholic Relief Services in reaching
out to the poor and to those whose lives are devastated
by natural disasters, illnesses, wars and famines, no
ma er their religious affilia on.

For Catholics around the world, Ash Wednesday marks the
start of the Season of Lent. It is a time of new beginnings.
This year, Lent offers us a unique opportunity to invite people
to seek healing and participate in the Festival of Forgiveness.
From noon on Friday, February 27, to noon on February 28,
the Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated at 24 locations

National Day of Prayer for
Victims and Survivors of Human Trafficking
Today, February 8th, 2015 the USCCB observes the National
Day of Prayer for Victims and Survivors of Human Trafficking.
February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was
kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy.
Once Josephine was freed, she dedicated her life to sharing her
testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor
and suffering.
St. Josephine Bakhita, you were sold into slavery as a
child and endured untold hardship and suffering.
Once liberated from your physical enslavement, you
found true redemption in your encounter with Christ
and his Church. O St. Bakhita, assist all those who are trapped
in a state of slavery; intercede with God on their behalf so that
they will be released from their chains of captivity. Those
whom man enslaves, let God set free. Provide comfort to survivors
of slavery and let them look to you as an example of hope and
faith. Help all survivors find healing from their wounds. We ask
for your prayers and intercessions for those enslaved among us.
Amen.
A REFLECTION ON GRATITUDE
To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything
He has given us -- and He has given us everything.
Every breath we draw is a gift of His love,
every moment of existence is a grace,
for it brings with it immense graces from Him.
Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted,
is never unresponsive,
is constantly awakening to new wonder
and to praise of the goodness of God.
For the grateful person knows that God is good,
not by hearsay but by experience.
And that is what makes all the difference.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Healing Ministry
During Jesus’ ministry “he cured many who were sick
with various diseases, and he drove out many demons.”
This is the case in today’s Gospel Jesus fulfills the vision
of Psalm 147: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up
their wounds.”
Jesus knew, however, that he couldn’t possibly heal all the
illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured
or how many hours he ministered, there always would be
more suffering people like Job who craved his healing
touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all
suffering. His “purpose” was to preach the coming of the
reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and
transforms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have
said, “Woe to me if I do not preach” that good news.

Święty Walenty
Istnieją przekazy o dwóch świętych Walentych, biskupach - jednak dotyczą one najprawdopodobniej jednej osoby. Żył w III
wieku. Był księdzem i lekarzem. W tym
okresie cesarz Klaudiusz II zabronił ślubów, twierdząc że żonaci mężczyźni niechętnie wstępowali do armii. Bp. Walenty
udzielał ślubów, za co został uwięziony i
skazany na śmierć. Znana jest też legenda o
cudownym uzdrowieniu
niewidomej dziewczynki. Kult świętego datowany jest
bardzo wcześnie, co potwierdza, że był on autentyczną
osobą.
Św. Walenty jest przede wszystkim patronem chorych na
epilepsję, a także pszczelarzy i podróżników. Wzywany jest
w czasie plag i epidemii. Zwyczaj wiązania go z
zakochanymi jest niedawny, choć od dawna jest patronem
par, które mają trudności w zawarciu związku małżeńskiego
(np. z powodu mezaliansu).
Szczątki św. Walentego przechowywane są w większości w
Terni (miejscu urodzenia) ale także ... w Polsce, niedaleko
Lublina.
