Bericht des Präsidenten
Wenn euch dieses
Nachrichtenblatt erreicht, dann haben
wir unsere Jahreshauptversammlung
hinter uns und die
meisten Mitglieder
sind über den Verlauf
dieser Versammlung
schon informiert. Die
Berichte für das Nachrichtenblatt müssen
am 8. Tag des Monats abgegeben werden,
daher kann ich die Ergebnisse der Vorstandswahl oder was sonst noch wichtiges
besprochen wurde, noch nicht bekannt
geben. Ich werde das dann im nächsten
Nachrichtenblatt bekannt geben.
Ich möchte mich vom 6. bis zum 21. Februar
entschuldigen. Meine Frau Kathi und ich
fliegen mit der Concordia Gruppe in den
sonnigen Süden (Costa Rica). In meiner Abwesenheit wird mich Rita Allmendinger,
unsere 1. Vizepräsidentin, vertreten.
Unser Präsidentenball, der Höhepunkt unserer Klubveranstaltungen, ist am 24. März.
Besorgt euch eure Eintrittskarten und wartet
nicht zulange, denn die besten Sitzgelegenheiten sind immer schnell ausverkauft.
Unser Klubveranstaltungskalender ist im
Büro erhältlich. Besorgt euch diesen, damit
ihr überall dabei sein könnt. Dann möchte
ich euch noch auf unser Oster-Buffet aufmerksam machen. Ostersonntag ist dieses
Jahr am 8. April. Wiederum bucht eure
Reservierung zeitig, damit es keine Enttäuschung gibt.
Das Bockbierfest der Frauengruppe, mit
Krönung unserer Miss Concordia für das
Jahr 2012, ist am 14. April. Zum Muttertag

haben wir wieder ein Buffet in der Halle
und dieser Sonntag ist am13. Mai.

President’s
Report
By the time you read this bulletin, our
Annual Membership Meeting will have
taken place and most members will be
familiar with the results. Since the deadline
for submission to this bulletin is February
8th, I am unable to report on the results of
the election or any other item that might
have been brought forward at the meeting.
Instead, I will do so in detail in the April
edition.
From February 6th until the 21st my wife
Kathi and I will be with the Concordia
group in the sunny south – Costa Rica. In
my absence our First Vice President, Rita
Allmendinger, will take over for me.
Our Presidents Ball, which is the highlight
of our Club’s events, is on the 24th of
March. Please make your reservation early
to avoid disappointments. We have a Club
event calendar available in the office, so you
don’t miss any of our functions.
Easter Sunday is on the 8th of April this
year, and we will once again be having our
famous Easter Buffet. Again, make your
reservation early; this is a sellout every year.
The Bockbierfest of the Ladies group with
the crowning of our new Miss Concordia is
on the 14th of April. As well, Mother’s Day
is on the 13th of May with a Buffet dinner in
the Hall.
I hope to see you at the Presidents Ball,
Bockbierfest and all of our Club functions.

Facebook & Twitter
Der Klub hat seine Präsenz an diesen zwei
sozialen Netzwerken im
letzten Jahr ausgebaut.
Dies vor allem deshalb,
weil wir somit unsere
Mitglieder und Kundschaft noch schneller
und besser erreichen
können. So platzieren wir während der
Woche unsere täglichen Sonderangebote an
beiden Seiten, damit auch jedermann schon
um 11 Uhr morgens davon unterrichtet ist,
was es in unserer Schenke heute als Sonderangebot gibt. Bei Twitter geht das schnell,
aber manchmal müssen wir da nach Wortkürzungen suchen, denn die Anzahl der
Buchstaben pro Nachricht ist auf 140 beschränkt. An Facebook haben wir 3 verschiedene Seiten: eine für den Klub, eine
für das Restaurant und eine für die Farm.
Jedermann kann da nicht nur „Einschau“
halten, sondern auch mitmachen, indem er
Fragen stellen kann, Bilder anschauen und
auch Bilder hochladen kann. Bilder als
solches sind besonders hilfreich, denn viele
zukünftige Eheleute können sich da schnell
davon ein Bild machen, was im Klub so im
Moment geboten wird und wie es dort aussieht. Vielleicht schauen auch Sie mal dort
vorbei.
Mitglieds-Rabatt
Manchmal passiert es, dass das eine oder
andere Mitglied Klarheit darüber braucht,
wie die Regeln bezüglich des Mitgliederrabatts sind. Das verhält sich folgendermaßen: Jedem bezahlten Mitglied steht in
der Schenke ein 15%iger Rabatt am Essen,
sowie an alkoholfreien Getränken zu. Die
Mitgliedskarte muss beim bestellen dem
Servierpersonal vorgelegt werden. Eine
Übergangsregelung am Jahresanfang besteht, wobei die alte Mitgliedskarte des Vorjahres noch für 15 Tage Gültigkeit hat. Der
Rabatt gilt nicht für Veranstaltungen und
Zusammenkünfte in den Einzelzimmern, er
ist für das normale Schenkegeschäft eingerichtet. Mehrere Gäste eines Mitglieds
können in den Genuß des Rabatts kommen,
sofern alles auf eine Rechnung geht und
diese von einem bzw. dem Mitglied bezahlt
wird. Der Discount gilt auch für „take out
orders“, also Essen welches abgeholt wird.
Der Discount gilt ebenso an größeren, vertraglichen Buchungen sofern diese in der
Schenke stattfinden – also nicht für die
Weinstube oder die Jägerstube, gleichgültig
ob alles auf eine Rechnung oder auf einzeln
bezahlt wird. Der darunterliegende Gedanke
ist, daß das tagtägliche Schenke-Geschäft
auf dem laufenden gehalten bzw. belebt
wird. Die Bankettzimmer, also Wein- oder
Jaegerstube werden in der Regel immer für
einen spezifischen Zweck vermietet und
das Preisgefüge ist dann anders als das in
der Schenke.
Von Zeit zu Zeit, je nach Jahreszeit und anderen Umständen sind Sonderangebote entweder ein- oder auch vom Rabatt ausgeschlossen! Generell sind sie zwar eingeschlossen, aber wir haben auch manchmal
Situationen, wo der Mitgliedsdiscount nicht
gilt, da der Preis in diesen Fällen dann
schon besonders extra niedrig gehalten ist.
Alkohol Gesetzgebung und ihre Regeln
Unser Rob Kerr, Ruth Rajna und und ich
hatten wieder die Gelegenheit einem Seminar über die Alkoholgesetzgebung und ihre
Regeln beizuwohnen. Das war natürlich
wieder sehr interessant, weil eben vieles
sehr wiederspüchlich und unlogisch wirkt.

Wie auch immer, man informierte über das
wichtigste und hier ist ein kleiner Ausschnitt:
• Man übernimmt automatisch die Verantwortung für eine Person, die betrunken
zur Tür hereinkommt
• Alkohol als Geschenk an eine andere
Person z.B. als Geburtstagsgeschenk, darf
in den Klub gebracht werden, solange es
eingepackt ist und bleibt!
• Geschenkkarten vom LCBO werden jetzt
als „alkoholische Getränke“ eingestuft,
vor allem wenn diese verschenkt werden
• Alkoholische Getränke dürfen nach wie
vor nicht „umsonst“ hergegeben werden.
Die einzige Ausnahme ist einem Gast,
der gerade eine zu versalzene Mahlzeit
oder ungenügenden Service erhalten hat
dies als „Wiedergutmachungsmaßnahme“ anzubieten.
• Happy Hour: darf man zwar machen,
aber der Begriff darf nicht verwendet
werden.
• Haus Policy: muß gut sichtbar angebracht
sein.
• Man kann bis zu 2 Jahren nach einem
Vergehen angeklagt werden
• Es gibt einen Mindestpreis für alkoholische Getränke von $ 2.- (Standard Getränk)
• Ebenso gilt die Parole „wer schreibt – der
bleibt“ alles muß bzw. sollte ständig dokumentiert sein.

Seminar beizuwohnen!

Festessen und was noch so alles dazugehört
(Steuern), mit ein. Dunkler Anzug ist selbstverständlich erwünscht, denn zu diesem
würdigen Anlass erwarten wir allerhand
geladene Gäste aus dem gesellschaftlichen
und öffentlichen Leben. Seien Sie auch mit
dabei, genießen Sie was der Klub so an kulturellem zu bieten hat. Jeder, der in den letzten Jahren mit dabei war, verbrachte ein
paar tolle Stunden in unserem Klub. Zum
Tanz spielt in diesem Jahr die Black Forest
Band! Ich will Sie nicht drängen, aber die
besten Plätze gleich zum Anfang, schieben
Sie deshalb diese Sache nicht auf die lange
Bank! Bereiten Sie dem Winter ein würdiges
Ende – denn der Frühling steht dann bestimmt vor der Tür!
Ostern
Schon heute möchte ich Sie auf unsere beiden Osterveranstaltungen aufmerksam machen. Ostern fällt in diesem Jahr etwas früher als sonst, und zwar auf den 8. April!!
Der Klub wird um 12 Uhr zum Brunch
geöffnet sein und dann wieder um 17 Uhr
zum Buffet. Ein farbenfrohes und leckeres
Buffet mit großer Auswahl wartet auf alle
unsere Gäste! Unser Küchenchef Andreas
plant mal wieder was besonders schmackhaftes und farbenfreudiges!

The club is using Facebook to promote itself
and we do as a rule post our daily specials
in the morning to make customers aware
what we offer “today”. The same announcement is of course also made on “Twitter”,
where you would find us under “Concordiac”.
This in itself is a very convenient way to
quickly check what is featured as special
during the weekdays.
On Facebook there are 3 different Concordia
sites, one for the club, one for the farm and
one for the restaurant. Anyone can contribute and post questions, suggestions and
pictures.
Certainly it enables us to reach many of our
“friends” on a very convenient and quick
way. We have also posted quite a few pictures on Facebook and Twitter to help us
become more visible and to show our
Banquet Hall to potential clients.

Membership Discount and how it works
Every year we find ourselves having to
explain to quite a few members how this
“membership discount thing” actually
works and how it applies to different situations: To keep the record straight here is our
membership discount policy:
All paid up members can enjoy a 15% discount on their food portion of their restaurant bill if they can provide their server with
a valid membership card. This discount also
applies to take out orders as long as a valid
membership card is shown when picking up
the order. There is also a 15 day grace period to January 15th, where the old membership card is still valid for the purpose of the
discount.
This discount is not valid for banquets and
events held in either the Jaegerstube or the
Weinstube. It is meant for regular restaurant
use only. Multiple guests of a member can
enjoy the discount as well, providing it is on
one bill and the member pays the bill. The
discount is allowed for contract events held
in the Schenke, but not in the Weinstube or
Jaegerstube, regardless of how it is paid (separate or on one bill).
The reason for this all is the idea to make
our restaurant attractive on a day to day
basis for the membership at large. We do
want to attract regular members to utilize
and frequent our restaurant. An exemption
is a banquet room situation where a room is
rented for a particular purpose or reason, as
pricing generally is different and on a case
to case basis depending on the size and
nature as well as on the included services.
From time to time, depending on pricing,
supplies and circumstances: Specials, features of the day as well as special limited
menus may not be available for the dis-

counting, however this is usually an exception.
Liquor Laws
If you think the discounts make your head
spin then read on...... Recently Ruth Rajna,
Rob Kerr and I had the pleasure to attend an
information and refresher session put on by
the AGCO. Like last year, it was still very
interesting
There was again lot’s of information brought
forward and not everything is clear cut, for
instance:
• Do not let an intoxicated person through
the door – once on the premise they are
Concordia’s problem.
• Alcohol as a gift can now be brought onto
the premises. This means it has to stay
gift wrapped and has to be taken out of
the club in that same condition.
• LCBO gift certificates are viewed as a gift
of “liquor”
• Free Drinks: are still not allowed. Although it is legal now to serve a complimentary drink to a customer to apologize
for a bad meal or bad experience, but the
club/management cannot provide a free
alcoholic drinks to anyone!
• Happy Hour: although the practice is legal, the term “happy hour” cannot be
used!!!
• House Policy: should be posted for
patrons to see
• Liquor related charges can be laid up to 2
years after the fact
• There is a required “minimum price of
$2.-” for a standard serving.
• Written documentation and reports are
the order of the day!
All in all it was a good seminar because the
most important facts are discussed.
President’s Ball
Do you have your tickets for this Club Gala
event already? If not, there is probably still
a good chance to get yours! After all, the
annual Presidents Ball ranks very high on
the list of special club events. We try to do
our utmost in culinary offerings and during
that evening many have the chance to speak
to local elected officials – and even if it is
only to say a friendly “hello”. Who knows,
sometimes it can come in handy when you
need help with whatever it may be, be it
Canadian pension, health care, snow plowing and much more! As snow and March
break was always a major stumbling block
in the past we have moved this event to the
end of March! We hope therefore to have a
greater attendance!
Ticket price is $ 45.- per person including
applicable taxes (the day of the event however they are $ 50.- each). This includes a
cocktail hour with a full spread of appetizers as well as a special gourmet dinner and
entertainment by the Black Forest Band.
This event is on March 24th! Winter should
be over by then!!
Easter
Already today I would like to make you
aware that Easter is celebrated very early
this year! It is on Sunday, April 8th. Again,
as we have done in the past, we will be having two seatings: one at lunch, (noon) and
the other at 5pm for our supper buffet. Both
buffets will be colorful, springlike and of
course delicious as usual. There is a small
difference between them, as the lunch one
is more like a “brunch” type Easter Buffet,
while the evening one is a typical Easter
Smörgåsbord.. Chef Andreas and all his
cooks and kitchen helpers are planning to
make this event as outstanding as we’ve
seen in the past. There is no doubt in my
mind that it will be excellent! Table reservations can be made here in the club office.
The prices this year are: $ 21.50 per person.
Children between 4 and 12 pay half price
and children under 4 are free. (Plus applicable taxes and gratuity)
Please make your reservations early!!

In addition to the daily specials we also
have currently a “draft beer promo” from
3pm through 5pm, Tuesdays until Fridays
where we feature one of the draft beers!
Currently it is the Weihenstephan Wheat for
$ 3.00 per 0.3l glass!!

Hello everyone, it’s time to celebrate spring
and the beginning of a new dance season.
Please join us on March 4th from 2 to 4 pm
in the Hall for our Dance Tea. We will have
a free lesson with Trish Beahan. Yes you
read that right, a FREE lesson. All levels
welcome, and a special invitation those who
are shy dancers or think they have two left
feet.
The dance society is a fun group with all
levels of dance experience. We get together
for social dancing, lessons, and also partake
in various outings and activities throughout
the year. These events range from hosting
our own dances at the club to wine tours in
Niagara. Mark your calendars! Bring a
friend!

Treffpunkt 2011 Blood Donation Report
Treffpunkt is very pleased to report that the
Concordia Club exceeded its 2011 ‘quota’ of
“40” blood donations by 10 percent!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Our 44 total donations have collectively
helped as many as 130 recipients in our
community.
Some may have been your neighbour, a fellow Club member or even a loved one. For
me it was the latter two.

Our annual Frühlings Fest dance will be on
May 5 2012. Our next meeting will be a tubing outing at Chicopee February 10. March
we are planning a bowling night and we
will also be having a “Fahrt ins Blaue” in
June. This year should be fun, so if you are
young or young at heart and would like to
join our group contact one of the exec committee and get filled in on all the details
what our group has to offer. A big Thank
you goes out to Dietmar Kubasta for all his
work on the blood donor clinic and all the
people who donated on behalf of Treffpunkt. Candace and Mary will be celebrating their birthdays in March so all the best
to you two.

Greetings!! I hope you’re reading this prior
to March 4th, or you’ve missed the return of
Winter Carnival. If you’re interested in joining us for the fun, friendship, and frolic,
breakfast is served starting at 10am, beverage service starts at 11am, followed by
lunch. All prices are EXTREMELY reasonable, come alone, or bring the whole family!
Depending on the weather, access to the
Home on the Range may be by XC skis,
snowshoes, walking, snowmobile, or Argo.
Transportation from the road will be provided for those in need.
Here is a schedule of events scheduled by
the Outdoor Group in 2012:

April 28 – Home on the Range spring cleanup. (Tentative date)
May 11 – Rice Lake fishing trip

Carnival. Membership is only $10, and it
includes discounts on Rice Lake fishing

January 23rd saw our annual choir meeting
in the Schenke. The meeting was well
attended with several good suggestions.

Alfred Kuers and myself have decided to
step down this year. Thank you Alfred for
the many hours of time you have volunteered. Your efforts were very much appreciated. I would like to say a hearty welcome
to Siegfreid and Caitlin. I’m sure the choir
will support you in the coming years, and
it’s always great to have new people on
board with new fresh ideas!
For those members not in attendance,
please make note of the updates in this
report, and ask a board member at practice
if you have any questions. I would like to
first remind all members if you have had, or
will have, an address or phone number
change to contact Andre Schilha. Also a
reminder that you should by now have
16
updated your 2012 calendar dates and taken
off the May 19th event, and replaced it with
April 21st in Oshawa. We will be attending
the Oshawa spring concert. Concert and
dinner, this will be an all day event. A bus
will leave and return same day. Mark your
calendars. Please continue to shop at Zehrs
and save your tapes. Even one or two tapes
add up throughout the entire year. Our tireless music committee reported that they
want to remind all singers that by now they
should have returned their Christmas
music, and to please keep your binders
orderly and return any duplicate music in
your binders. Our music committee has
already implemented one suggestion, and
has already printed and distributed a preliminary music listing of our Oshawa songs
and spring concert songs. Joe Liebel reported that we are down in our social membership sales and to continue in the upcoming
year. Special mention goes to our top sellers
Erica Koekritz, Alfred Kuers and Klaus
Schwegel. Another good suggestion was for
all choir members to remember our tireless
archivist Leo Tucums. and to please continue taking pictures and getting copies for
him. We would also like to have a Fahrt Ins
Blaue this year, so if we have volunteers for
a committee or suggestions of a location,
please see a board member. A great suggestion came from the floor, and next year our
financial report will be displayed on an
overhead projector. Please also note to cover
increasing costs our membership fee will
increase in 2013. This increase is only $5.00
Our childrens choir report was that there
were 13 in the fall session. New singers are
always welcome.
And lastly any singers who have been away
for illness or extended vacations should
always check in with Alfred Kunz to discuss if you are prepared enough to perform

in concert. Please also let our attendance
takes know if you will be absent for extended periods of time. 2011 was a very successful year for the choir, with a European tour,
weddings, funerals and babies. Hopefully
2012 promises to be just as successful. In
closing, I have decided to step down from
the board this year. It was a difficult decision and I hope my time on the board has
been helpful. I know everyone will understand when you work full time, there is limited free time at the end of the day. A big
thank you to everyone who said such kind
words to me. I will miss the bulletin writing
the most! Andre Schilha has taken over this
task, and I’m sure we will all enjoy reading
his write ups in the coming year. I’ll see you
all at practice!

Based on the winter we’ve had so far, it’s
almost been warm enough to be camping!
The Campers Committee has been meeting
and making plans for the upcoming season.
We have events planned for ALL club members, not just the Campers, we hope everyone will come and join us for some fun!

Wir trafen uns am 1. Februar um 14.30 Uhr
in der Jaegerstube. Anwesend waren 20 Mitglieder. Unser Praesident wies auf die kommenden Veranstaltungen im Klub an, besonders auf die Haupt-Jahresversammlung am
26. Februar. Post gab es keine, also ging
alles sehr schnell. Unser Geburtstagskind
fuer diesen Monat war Klara Richter. Klara,
wir wuenschen dir alles Gute fuer 2012 und
beste Gesundheit.
Unser Weihnachtsessen ist bezahlt und
auch schon fuer 2012 gebucht. Das macht
unsere Lucie immer prima.
Den 50/50 draw gewann Ernst Klarner und
er uebergab den Gewinn prompt der Kasse.
Dann ging es ueber zum gemuetlichen Beisammensein mit Kaffee und Kuchen. Wir
trennten uns um 16.30 Uhr und treffen uns
wieder am 7. Maerz 2012.

On Wednesday, February 8th, Joyce Dietrich
will do a presentation on Flower Designs for
Valentine’s . Our meetings are at 7:30 in the
Jagerstube. As February 14’s day of love,
friendship, and roses is just around the corner, come out to see what’s new.
As people downsize to smaller apartments ,
Marion’s visit on Wed. March 14, 7:30
should prove informative. Marion Hesse
will do a talk on Balcony Gardening- vegetables and flowers .It’s nice to be able to
pick a handful of fresh vegetables, right
from your own garden or balcony garden.
We are looking to discusss where our spring
outings should take us. Edith is always
ready to hear your suggestions.

Hello to all Concordia Members!
The Karneval Group had an exciting trip to
Cincinnati, Ohio January 20th-22nd. The
Cincinnati Karneval Group were wonderful
hosts providing a city tour, buffets and an
entertaining Masquerade Ball. Our Garde
Dancers performed with great enthusiasm
lead by their dance teacher Elaine Keller.
We are looking forward to our next season
when we are able to see our Cincinnati
friends again.
Our Karneval season has come to a close
and we are busy planning the 2012-2013
Season’s events.

Wegen Renovierung der Schenke wurde
unsere Sitzung vom 4. Januar auf den 11.
Januar verlegt, deshalb erschien kein Bericht unserer Gruppe im Februar Bulletin.
Wir trafen uns am 1. Februar, der Küchenchef Andreas war unser Gast. Er zeigte uns
wie man Brusheta und Granberry Vinegret
zubereitet, natürlich haben wir beides probiert, es hat ausgezeichnet geschmeckt.
Danke Andreas für die vielen Fragen, die du
beantwortet hast. Wir hoffen dich auch bald
wiederzusehen in unserer Gruppe. Also
herzlichen Dank.
Unser Bockbierfest findet am 14. April in
der Halle statt, wir laden alle dazu herzlich
ein. Zum Tanz spielt das Edelweiss Trio,
und die Enzian Schuhplattlergruppe wird
dabeisein.
Die Karten für das Bockbierfest sind ab 8.
März für $ 26.00 pro Person im Clubbüro
erhältlich.
