Präsident Karl Braun mit Vorstand.
Our President Karl Braun and his spouse
Kathi are in Ottawa and waiting for the
arrival of a new family member.
If it is a Grandson or a Granddaughter, we
congratulate Grandpa and Grandma and we
wish for the parents all the best for the
future.
As reported in the previous bulletin,
President Karl Braun and Vice-President
Rita Allmendinger are not available for the
next 3 weeks.
In case of an emergency, 2. Vice-President
Peter Schoepke is available for any problems, should there be any.
President Karl Braun and the Main Board
wishes everybody a nice beginning of the
summer.

Unser Präsident Karl Braun ist mit seiner
Gattin Käthi, in Ottawa und erwarten das
neue Familienmitglied.
Ob Enkelsohn oder Enkeltochter, wir gratulieren dem Opa und Oma, natürlich auch
den Eltern, und wünschen für die Zukunft
das Allerbeste.
Wie im letzten Bericht schon mitgeteilt,
werden der Präsident Karl Braun und 1.
Vize-Präsident Rita Allmendinger für 3 Wochen nicht anwesend sein.
Im “Notfall” wird sich der 2. Vize Präsident
Peter Schöpke sich den Problemen stellen.

Konsularsprechtag
Das Generalkonsulat
der
Bundesrepublik
Deutschland hält am
Dienstag, dem 26. Juli,
zwischen 14 und 16
Uhr eine Sprechstunde
im Concordia Club ab.
Generelle Konsularleistungen werden hierbei
gewährt. Bitte nehmen
Sie Bezug auf die in dieser Ausgabe der
Nachrichten gelistete Anzeige, wo nähere
Einzelheiten erklärt werden.
Eingang für Behinderte
In den letzten paar Wochen wurden zwei
Eingänge so umgebaut, dass auch behinderte in Rollstühlen oder Rollators bequem
ins Gebäude gelangen können.
Der Behinderten-Eingang für die Halle ist
hinten am Klub, dort wo auch die Behinderten Parkplätze eingerichtet sind. Knopfdruck genügt – und schon ist man hinten im
Gang auf der Ebene der Halle angelangt.
Bei der Schenke muß man den Seiteneingang bei der Patio und Jägerstube benutzen
– und schon ist man in der Schenke!!
Renovierung der Toilettenräume
In Kürze wird auch die totale Renovierungsmaßnahme der WC’s bei der Schenke in
Angriff genommen. Die Umbaumaßnahme
soll eigentlich innerhalb von einer Woche
abgeschlossen sein, weshalb wir auf minimale Einschränkungen für die Kundschaft
rechnen. Auf jeden Fall werden Alternativen zur Verfügung stehen.
Unser Biergarten/Gartenwirtschaft ist
offen!!
Während der Sommermonate bietet sich des
öfteren die Gelegenheit ein paar schöne
Stunden bei gutem Essen und erlesenen
Getränken in unserem Biergarten bzw.
Gartenwirtschaft zu verbringen. Nicht alleine die Bewirtung macht den Unterschied,
nein entscheidend ist auch hierbei der
„Wohlfühlfaktor“, denn schließlich soll sich
die ganze Arbeit mit dem Blumengarten
auch ganz besonders lohnen! Unser guter
Matthias, Karl Braun und einige andere sind
fast jeden morgen da und schauen nach dem
Rechten. Da geht’s dann ums jäten, Wässern
und vorher natürlich galt es Blumen zu setzen und die Gärten vorzubereiten. Manchmal kann man die Männer schon morgens
um 6 Uhr bei der Arbeit finden! Ich glaube
aber auch, dass viele unserer Gäste diese
Blumenpracht schätzen und bewundern.
Selbstverständlich war es nicht nur freiwillige Eigenleistung dieser Herren, nein es
gab auch finanzielle Zuschüsse aus den Reihen unserer Gruppen, denn sonst würde es
nicht so prachtvoll aussehen. Wir danken
allen ganz herzlich, die dabei in diesem Jahr
wieder so zahlrreich mitgeholfen haben!!
Zwar haben wir mehr Gäste zum Mittag
haben als am Abend, aber beklagen wollen
wir uns trotzdem nicht! Selbstverständlich
bieten wir alle unsere Speisen und Getränke
auf unserer Patio mit an. Auch wenn Sie
nachmittags nur zu Kaffee und Kuchen
kommen, unser Biergarten ist genau der
richtige Platz. Unser Personal macht große
Anstrengungen, alle unserer Patiogäste
bestens zu bewirten, was nicht immer ganz
einfach ist. Man muss sich nämlich mal vor
Augen führen, dass eine unserer Damen,
neben ihrer Station in der Schenke, auch
noch für die Gartenwirtschaft zuständig ist.

Das funktioniert meistens, aber nicht immer, denn wenn viel lost ist, dann kommt
man sehr ins Schwitzen. Die Wege sind lang
und die Kunden oft in Zeitdruck. Ganz
gleich, wir versuchen unser bestes, alles zur
besten Zufriedenheit zu erledigen! Wir bitten deshalb manchmal um etwas Geduld.

Gebrauch, denn die Saison ist (leider) kurz.

Sollten Sie diesen Sommer eine GartenParty oder ähnliches organisieren, denken
Sie an den Concordia Club. Unsere Küche
bietet Ihnen verschiedene kalte Platten,
bunte Salate und andere leckere Vorspeisen
an. Wir können Sie auch mit Plastikund/oder Papier Geschirr und Gläsern versorgen. Das gibt Ihnen mehr Zeit, sich mit
Ihren Gästen zu unterhalten und reduziert
Ihre Zeit für die Planung und Vorbereitungen. Für Preise und weitere Einzelheiten
rufen Sie uns an, der Platz wo Sie alles auf
einmal bekommen! Ich bin überzeugt, dass
unsere Qualität für sich spricht.
Oktoberfest
Obwohl niemand so richtig daran denken
will, es sind nur noch 15 Wochen bis zum
Oktoberfest. Wieder hoffen wir, dass auch
unser 44. Oktoberfest wieder ein voller Erfolg wird. Der Vorverkauf der Eintrittskarten
hat im Mai begonnen und der Verkauf geht
in diesem Jahr sogar noch rasanter als im
Vorjahr!! Beide Wochenenden waren bereits
Ende Mai ausverkauft! Trotzdem haben wir
aber noch reichlich Eintrittskarten für das
lange Wochenende, sowie für alle Tage unter der Woche!. Denken Sie an den Concordia Club für Ihr „Oktoberfest Unterhaltungsprogramm“. Kaufen Sie Ihre Eintrittskarten
frühzeitig!!!! Karten können natürlich wieder übers Internet erworben werden: navi-

an – www.concordiaclub.ca und klicken sie
an den „Oktoberfest“ Navigationsknopf.
Dort nehmen Sie dann „Oktoberfest 2011“ von da an haben Sie dann Zugang zur
Ticketseite.
Antragsformulare für Arbeit während des
Oktoberfest sind ebenso jetzt im Klubbüro
erhältlich. Wie schon in den letzten Jahren,
brauchen wir jede helfende Hand, nicht nur
im Service, sondern, und vor allem, auch
hinter den Kulissen! Lizensierung und
Fachgebundene Ausbildung des Sicherheitspersonals sowie des Bedienungspersonals ist inzwischen eine sehr wichtige Sache (und auch eine entsprechende Hürde),
denn es ist wichtig, dass man rechtzeitig
ihre Lizenzen beantragen und auch ihre
Ausbildung abschließt, denn das muss weit
vor dem Oktoberfest abgeschlossen sein! In
diesem Jahr nehmen wir weder Bewerbungen von Sicherheitspersonal oder auch Bedienungspersonal an, sofern diese nicht im
Besitz der notwendigen Dokumente sind.
Deshalb: sollten Sie Interesse haben, oder
jemanden kennen, der schon mal geholfen
hat oder für uns in dieser Zeit arbeiten
möchte, zögern Sie nicht eine Bewerbung
auszufüllen. Die Formulare sind im Büro
oder nach Büroschluss auch in unserer
Lobby erhältlich. Mindestalter für Bewerber
ist 15 Jahre.
Oktoberfest Landhausmoden
Man hat uns von Seiten der Oktoberfest Inc.
mitgeteilt, dass wieder neue Ware aus
Deutschland eingetroffen ist. Die Auswahl
ist wahrscheinlich jetzt schon gut und
vielleicht besser als eine Woche vor dem
Oktoberfest. Weiterhin hat man da auch
eine Abteilung für leicht gebrauchte Kleidung, die man dort erwerben kann bzw.
auch zum Verkauf anbieten kann. Machen
Sie deshalb von dieser Gelegenheit frühzeitig Gebrauch!!

volunteers and without the donations of our
groups to help with the cost of the plants it
certainly would never look as pretty as it

The German Consulate in Toronto is holding another clinic for general consular services on Tuesday, July 26th, between 2pm
and 4pm right here at the Concordia Club.

Handicapped entrances
Over the last couple of weeks we have
installed electric door openers on two sets
of doors to enable people in wheelchairs
and walkers to have access to either the Hall
or the Schenke.
The hall entrance is at the back of the building (where the handicapped parking is
located). The Schenke entrance is near the
Jaegerstube (the side entrance). Both have
push button entry and will open once the
corresponding push button is activated.
Washroom revonations
The Schenke washrooms will be completely
renovated shortly. You will notice a substantial improvement. We regret any inconvenience this may bring, as our customers
will have to use alternative washrooms,
either upstairs or the temporary ones located on the secondary patio.
Summer time is Patio time!
Throughout the summer our patio is one of
the places to spend lunch or early supper
To enjoy a meal or just a beverage on our
patio is a special treat and our staff strives to
make anyone’s experience a positive one!
This is by no means an easy task, because it
depends on so many different factors, such
as weather and how busy it is inside the
Schenke. Sometimes it happens on a
Thrusday night, that the Schenke is completely full, which then means that the Patio
fills as well, however that also puts a strain
on the waitstaff and we would want you to
please understand, that we are trying our
best to serve everyone. Patience is sometimes a virtue!

prep work! We also offer disposable plastic/paper dishes and beverage cups. It’s kind
of “one stop shopping for your event”. Call

Oktoberfest
Although no one wants to really think about
it yet, it’s only 15 weeks away!! Our 44th
“Concordia - Oktoberfest” promises to be
just as successful as the last ones! Advance
ticket sales have started early May and have
gone much more rapid than in previous
years. By the end of May we were already
sold out for both weekends! This also means
of course, that an excellent supply of tickets
for all other days and events is still available! Keep us in mind and get your tickets
early!! Tickets are available on line as well
an can be purchased through our web site
(www.concordiaclub.ca) when you click
“Oktoberfest” and select “Oktoberfest
2011”.
Job applications for work during Oktoberfest are also available in the club office as
well as on our web page. As in other years,
we need a lot of staff in all departments (not
only servers, but mainly behind the scenes)
Security staff legislation as well as alcohol

server regulations impact us in significant
ways by requiring security and beverage
servers to be licensed! As this cannot be
done in 2 days prior to Oktoberfest it is
noteworthy, that this year again we'll only
accept applicants with the proper licensing
and training certificates! (we won't even
consider the applicant if they don't have a
security license and/or smart serve.)
So, if you are interested or know of anyone
who is and who would make a great contribution to your club and Oktoberfest - application forms are ready in the club office or
after hours at the reception desk door person in the lobby.
Bavarian Tracht
Oktoberfest Inc. has been bringing in new
Bavarian style clothing and accessories for
women and men. The selection will be of
course very good right now, as everything is
just arriving. They also have a consignment
rack for used clothing, where you may be
able to drop off your “pre loved” items or or
course find something you may like for a
much lower price. Keep it in mind – the
selection is of course better ahead of
Oktoberfest!

Upon the recommendation and through a motion
passed by the Board of Directors of the Concordia
Club, the By-Laws and Nominations Committee
is putting the following motion before the
Membership.
Paragraph 1. Name: presently reads as follows.
Pursuant to the Charter granted by the
Government of the Province of Ontario the Club
carries the name “Concordia Club” having it’s
principle offices in the City of Kitchener, in the
Province of Ontario. It is a German-Canadian
organization devoted to work for the common
good. It’s business is conducted in the German
language.
It is moved by myself, U. Werner Schlueter and
second by Karl Braun that Paragraph 1. Of our
by-laws be amended to read as follows.

The German Consulate General offers consular counseling
on Tuesday May 26, 2011 between 2pm and 4 pm, at the
Concordia Club in Kitchener, 429 Ottawa Street South.
Following consular services will be provided:
• answers to general questions
• signing of life certificates
• certification of signatures (i.e. power of attorney,
declaration of consent, renouncement of inheritance, declaration of name change)
• certification of signatures on the application for a
certificate of good conduct
• legalization of already authenticated documents
(The authentication can be obtained at the Official
Documents Services, 77 Grenville Street, 9th Floor,
Toronto, ON, M5S 1B3, Tel: 416 325 8416).
It is not necessary to book an appointment.
Important: Please note that we will NOT be able to offer
the following services:
• consulting on German pensions
• accepting passport applications
• accepting visa applications
If you require notarization of documents/Beurkundung (i.e.
certificate of inheritance, affirmation in lieu of oath ) please

The summer is upon us and due to everyone's busy schedules, the Treffpunkt group
has only a few events planned for the next
few months. As I write this, we have yet to
have our Patio Social on June 10th and on
July 9th, we will be heading out into the
unknown on a mystery trip (Fahrt-insblaue). Just before the summer is over, we
have a cottage weekend planned for the
weekend after Labour Day. There are still a
few spots available, so if you are interested
in coming, then contact myself at [email protected] to book your place.

Schuster have transferred our garden at the
Club to a magical place. Now it is a place to
relax and let the flowers with the colors put

Tischtennis Gruppe
Liebe Freunde!
Unsere Klubmeisterschaften im Tischtennis
sind im vollen Gange. Die Einzelspiele in
der A- unnd B-Gruppe sind fertig. Die
Sieger werde ich erst bekanntgeben, wenn
die Doppelspiele vorbei sind. Unser Turnierleiter Ivo Babic geht zu den Weltmeisterschaften für Organ Transplant Empfänger nach Schweden, wir wünschen ihm viel
Erfolg.
Da im Juli kein Nachrichtenblatt gedruckt
wird, muß ich alle unsere Gruppenmitglieder darauf aufmerksam machen, daß
unser Gruppen-Picknik am 23. July 2011 an
der "Home on the Range" stattfindet. Es
beginnt um 14.00 Uhr. Bitte kommt pünktlich.
Am 19. Juni 2011 hat Hans Malthaner wieder ein Golftournament organisiert. "Vatertags Golftournament". Es wird frühmorgens
im Brookfield Golf Klub stattfinden und
anschließend geht's auf die Farm. Wir
möchten unsere langjährigen Gruppenmitglieder und Wiedereinwanderer aus
Deutschland aufs herzlichste begrüßen.

TABLE TENNIS
Dear Friends !
Our Club tournament with the single game
of the A and B groups are finished, now we
are working on the doubles. Our tournament
leader Ivo Babic is going to Schweden to
participate at the "World Transplant Games"
in table tennis. We wish him all the best. His
son Stefan Babic will finish our championship.
To all our group members there is no news
bulletin in July, so do not forget our picnic
on July 23, 2011 at 2.00
pm at the "Home of the
Range".
We like to welcome our friends and long
time group members Ingrid and Eckhart
Michalski. They came back from Germany
to retire here with us in (Berlin). A hardy
welcome.

Campers
I think most of the Campers are becoming
believers of the old question of “What follows two days of rain?” (the answer is
“Monday”)
Although we’ve had one of the wettest
springs on record, most of the campers are
ready to go, and waiting for the forecasted
hot, dry summer!!
We fought Mother Nature for the Opening
Picnic, and Farm Olympics, and I’m declaring that we won! I think the threat of rain
kept some people away, but even though we
were prepared for fun, rain or shine. All
reports from those who attended indicate
that we indeed DID have fun
Congratulations to the Olympic winners
Craig Shantz and Devony Schott (Gold),
Miss Concordia Kyla Pfister and Mario
Lulay (Silver) , Ewald Nowak and Dan
Patterson (Bronze). It was truly an event for
all ages, as we had participants from 6 to 76
(and maybe a little older)
Just a reminder to all that our Canada Day
Picnic and Beach Volleyball tournament
goes on Saturday July 2nd. Registration for
the Volleyball is from 11am to Noon, with
the tournament starting at 1pm. For those
not playing volleyball, you’re welcome to
join us at 11 am too, as the Kitchen, and Bar
will be open.
If you haven’t already heard, something
new this year will be the launching of a Hot
Air Balloon from the farm, and you can win
a chance to be in the balloon with a $20
donation to the giant fireworks display.
(other donations graciously accepted too)
Since this is our last Nachrichten of the
summer, I’ll also mention our Closing
Picnic on Saturday August 27th.

Concordia Choir
Yes, it really happened, summer did finally
arrive!
The Concordia choirs travelled by bus to
Hamilton on May 14, to participate in the
Hamilton Germania spring concert. Yes it
was raining! The following choirs were in
attendance:

It was a lovely event, even though it was
still raining in May! Thank you to Hamilton
Germania for your kind invitation!
Saturday June 4th we were invited to sing at
a concert to celebrate the Transylvania Chor
60th anniversary at the beautiful club in
Mannheim. The choirs in attendance were
Transylvania Chor, Teutonia Stratford,
Germania Hamilton, Lyra London, Thames
Valley Milverton, and the male and mixed
Concordia Choirs. This also was a lovely
day, with lots of sunshine! Thank you to
Transylvania Kitchener for the invitation!
As I am writing this bulletin the Concordia
male and mixed choirs are preparing to
depart on their European Tour from June 8th
to June 22nd. I’ll report on the trip in the
Sept. bulletin. We were very happy to
receive our new choir binders before our
departure. Thank you to Andre Schilha for
arranging this. The tour members were also
thrilled to receive a choir jacket before their
departure. A big thank you to Joe Liebel,
and Cecilia Piller for arranging this. Now
hopefully nobody will get lost in Europe!
As we are now on our summer break, please
mark your calendars for July 21st as the
male choir will be singing in Mannheim.
You should all be receiving your invitations
from the German Remembrance society
with the times. Same as last year, the male
choir will sing in Mannheim and then the
male and mixed choir are invited to the
farm of Paul Tuerr for a BBQ and more
singing.
Our first choir rehearsal will be August 8th,
followed by the picnic August 13th at the
farm. If you have not already, please bring
your donation for our Grand Tombola! Fred
Trautrim is collecting and sorting these
items. See the enclosed picnic advertising
for more details. As in years past, we are
having our famous Chicken BBQ, prepared
by Willi Rahn and his crew! Children’s
games, food, Tombola, singing and dancing
under the stars at the Concordia Farm.
Please purchase your chicken dinner ticket
when you arrive! Dinner at 6pm. Hope to
see you out there.
Sad news. Our sincere condolences go to
Rosa Mowinski and family on the loss of
Gunter Mowinski May 19th. Gunter was one
of our original choir members, and has sang
for over 50 years. As well he was on the
choir board for many years, and was ‘Sanger
des Jahres”. The list of all the time donated
by Gunter over the years to our choir and
club, is indeed endless. We are proud to
have had such a dedicated member in our
midst. He will be missed very much by the
Concordia Choirs.

Dear Fellow Concordia Club and Outdoor
Group Members
Home On The Range clean up was a great
success. I would like to thank everyone who
volunteered to help clean up. Many hands
make light work. My committee and I have
been busy setting up a sound system for
Fathers Day and putting up lighting outside
of the HOTR. Thank you Bruce Emmerson
and Steve Zimmer for all your work. The
Rice Lake fishing trip was a great success.
We caught lots of fish and partied to the wee
hours of the morning. I would like to thank
everyone who volunteered their time to
make this a fun trip.
Our canoe trip was cancelled because of
weather. The Grand was a raging river and a
2 hour canoe trip would have been shortened to 15 minutes due to the raging river.
We are still having this trip. Keep an eye on
Facebook for the new date.
If you would like to go Horse Back Riding
along the Conestogo River, it is on July 17.

excellent time and includes a BBQ after the
ride.
On August 28 at the HOTR at the Concordia
Farm we will be having our free corn roast
and annual meeting. Please mark this date
