Bericht des Präsidenten
Nach einem kühlen und
nassen Frühling ist dieser Sommer gerade das
Gegenteil, heiss und
trocken.
Herzlichen Dank an die Frauen- und
Tischtennisgruppe für die Einladung zu
deren Picknick. Wir hatten viel Spass und
Vergnügen.
Mathias Schuster hat
die Hände voll um die
Blumen in unserem
Biergarten am Leben zu
halten.
Unserem Vorstandsmitglied Klaus Schwegel, der wieder ins Krankenhaus musste,
wünschen wir eine baldige Besserung.
Während ich diese Zeilen schreibe, werden
unsere Toiletten für die Schenke renoviert.
Es ist leider nicht angenehm, zu dieser Zeit,
die oberen Washräume oder die auf der
Terrasse befindlichen Toiletten zu benutzen.
Im letzten Nachrichtenblatt hatte ich
geschrieben, dass meine Frau Kathi und ich
bei der Chorreise nach Deutschland,
Kroatien, Slovenien und Österreich dabei
sein werden. Wir können nur sagen “Es war
wunderschön und ein unvergessliches
Erlebnis”. Mein Kompliment an das Chorkomitee, welches die Reise organisiert hat.

krank und musste die Reise einen Tag
früher abbrechen. Wir hoffen und wünschen ihm eine baldige Genesung.
Es ist immer noch nicht sicher, ob wir
dieses Jahr die Legalisation unseres Trailerparks verzeichnen können.
Das Oktoberfest rückt immer näher und bis
ihr dieses Nachrichtenblatt lest, sollte das
Zelt schon stehen und wir sind voll beschäftigt mit dem Innenausbau. Oktoberfest
Inc. plant dieses Jahr am 1. Oktober wieder
ein Konzert “Rock the Tent”. Die Gruppen,
die auf der Zelteingangsseite sind, können
erst wie im letzten Jahr, nach diesem
Konzert ihre Buden fertig machen. Es wäre
uns eine grosse Hilfe wenn die betroffenen
Gruppen uns genau wissen lassen, wie viele
Lichter oder Steckdosen sie brauchen. Jedes
Jahr gibt es Überraschungen und manche
Leitungen werden überladen.
Der Deutsche Pioniertag findet wie alljährlich, in der Rotunda des Kitchener Rathauses, am Dienstag den 11. Oktober, statt.
Kommt, seid dabei und zeigt, dass ihr auf
eure deutsche Abstammung stolz seid.
Wir hoffen, viele von euch beim Winzerfest,
Oktoberfest und Stiftungsfest begrüssen zu
dürfen. Die Daten zu diesen Veranstaltungen werden im Nachrichtenblatt bekannt
gegeben.

President’s Report
This year’s spring was exceptionally cool
and wet and the summer was just the opposite, hot and dry. However, Mathias
Schuster managed to keep the flowers by
our patio alive and blooming. Thanks Matt.
As I am writing this report the washrooms
for the Schenke are being renovated and
should be finished by the middle of August.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank
you for your patience.
In the last Bulletin I wrote that my wife
Kathi and I were joining the choir on their
trip to Europe. We had a wonderful time
and gained a few pounds. It was an unforgettable experience. To the trip planning
committee I extend my compliments; everything went without any major hiccups.
Thank you. We also owe the Piller family a
big “thank you” for their generous financial
support. We are sorry that George became
sick and had to leave for home a day earlier.
We wish him all the best.
We would like to thank the Ladies and Table
Tennis Groups for the invitation to their picnic on the farm. We had lots of fun playing
games and enjoyed the good food.
Our board member Klaus Schwegel is out of
the Hospital and back home again. Klaus we
wish you a speedy recovery and get well
soon.
We are still hoping to get the zoning change
on our farm finalized this year.
By the time you receive this bulletin, the
tent for this year’s Oktoberfest should be up.
The inside work will start after the long
weekend in September.
Oktoberfest Inc. is holding another “Rock
the Tent” on October 1, 2011. I will inform
the groups that are near the tent entrance,
when they can set up after this date. Please
let me know how many lights and plug-in
outlets every group needs. Every year we
have problems with overloaded circuits.
This year the electrician will work exactly
to the contract and we will have to pay for
any extras.
The German Pioneer Day will be held in the
Rotunda of our City Hall again on Tuesday
October 11. Come on out and be proud of
your German heritage.
I hope to see you at the Winzerfest,
Oktoberfest and Stiftungsfest. The dates for
these events will be in our Bulletin.

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet
Oktoberfest
Schon seit dem 15. August ist man dabei, das
Festzelt für das diesjährige Oktoberfest aufzustellen. Zu der Zeit,
bei der Sie dieses Heft
der „Nachrichten“ in
den Händen haben,
sind bestimmt viele der
Aufbauarbeiten in vollem Gange, denn von
da an sind es ja nur so ca. 4 bis 5 Wochen!
Wie auch in den Vorjahren, findet am
Samstagabend, dem 1. Oktober wieder eine
Veranstaltung von Oktoberfest Inc. statt.
“Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent“ nennt man
diese Veranstaltung. Hierbei treten drei oder
vier verschiedene Bands auf, die vor allem
die Jugend anziehen soll. Von Seiten der Organisatioren hofft und verspricht man sich
dabei gute Einnahmen. Sollten Sie an Karten interessiert sein, müssen Sie sich an Oktoberfest Inc. wenden: Tel. 519-570-HANS.
Bei uns geht es dann ab Freitag, dem 7.
Oktober so richtig los: bis dahin müssen alle
Vorbereitungen abgeschlossen sein, denn ab
Mittag geht es dann in unserer Schenke mit
Volldampf los. Zuerst ein gepacktes Haus
zur Mittagszeit. Um 16 Uhr beginnt man
dann schon mit dem Abendprogramm. In
der Halle und im Zelt fangen wir ab 18 Uhr
an. Es fließt dann der goldene Gerstensaft,
man ist unter Freunden und prostet sich zu!
Immerhin ein paar fröhliche und gemütliche Stunden im Klub, bei denen man den
Alltag mal Zuhause lassen kann!
Wie unentbehrlich das Oktoberfest für die
Klubfinanzen ist, kann Ihnen jedes Vorstandsmitglied erläutern - “unentbehrlich”
ist auf jeden Fall der richtige Ausdruck!

Sei es in der Küche oder in der Verwaltung
oder beim Aufbau und Zelt-Innenausbau, da
spielt sich im September schon sehr viel ab.
Von gesetzlicher Seite hat man über die vergangenen Jahre allerlei neue und strengere
Anforderungen zu erfüllen und praktisch
nimmt die Papierarbeit kein Ende. Was einmal relativ einfach war, nimmt zwischenzeitlich viel Zeit in Anspruch – manchmal
hab ich mich schon gewundert ob wir bald
einen Rechtsanwalt zu Rate ziehen sollten.
Eine unserer größten Herausforderungen ist
natürlich wie immer im Personalbereich:
wir suchen Mitarbeiter in allen Abteilungen, denn willige und kompetente Hände
sind jedes Jahr immer schwieriger zu finden! Heutzutage brauchen viele unserer Mitarbeiter einiges an Dokumenten zum Nachweis von bestandenen Kursen, Prüfungen
und Genehmigungen. Bitte bewerben Sie
sich oder senden Sie uns die richtigen
Leute!!
Der Kartenvorverkauf fing zwar schon im
Mai dieses Jahres an, alles ging sehr gut,
aber trotzdem haben wir im Moment noch
sehr gute Auswahl an Eintrittskarten für die
„Mitte der Woche“ Tage! Der Verkauf war in
diesem Jahr noch besser und vor allem
schneller als im Vorjahr - vor allen Dingen
deshalb, weil unser On Line Verkauf weiter
zugenommen hat. Leider fanden wir aber
auch in diesem Jahr Eintrittskarten, die am
Internet zu Wucherpreisen ($ 75) verkauft
werden!! Jedoch kam uns hier der Gesetzgeber zu Hilfe und hat endlich mal etwas
unternommen.
Wie in den Vorjahren genießen unsere
Mitglieder einen besonderen Vorteil, denn
alle Mitglieder erhalten nach wie vor am
Sonntag und Montag freien Eintritt!. Bitte
bringen Sie Ihre Mitgliedskarte mit!! Am
Dienstagabend wird nur die Schenke ge-
öffnet sein und am Mittwochabend im Festzelt unterhält nicht nur die Black Forest
Band, sondern auch der Gast Star Walter
Ostanek! Da wird bestimmt jeder PolkaLiebhaber besonders gut auf seine Kosten
kommen – schließlich handelt es sich hierbei um eine Legende!! Karten hierfür sind
für nur $ 10 erhältlich.
Sonntagsbrunch
Immer wieder werden wir danach gefragt,
ob der Klub während des Oktoberfests zum
Brunch am Sonntag geöffnet ist. Leider können wir das aus logistischen Gründen nicht
machen. Ebenso kann am Sonntag gleich
nach dem Oktoberfest (16. Oktober) kein
Brunch stattfinden da das Großreinemachen
und der Abbau beginnen.
Vorausbezahlte (Pre Paid) Karte
Der Klub bietet eine Kontokarte an, die im
Büro bzw. an der Bar käuflich erworben werden kann. Mit dieser Karte kann der Besitzer seine Rechnung begleichen und die Karte “langsam” in Teilbeträgen aufbrauchen.
Der Vorteil gegenüber einer Kreditkarte liegt
auf der Hand: es kommt kein Kontoauszug
bzw. Rechnung ins Haus geflattert, diese
Karte ist übertragbar (kann an jemand
anders gegeben werden), die Karte ist wieder “aufladbar” und sie ist auch zweckgebunden. Als Geschenk ist diese Karte ideal,
denn gegenüber einem Geschenkgutschein
hat man den großen Vorteil, dass man auch
einen Kaffee damit bezahlen kann, denn der
Restbetrag bleibt auf der Karte stehen und
kann beim nächsten Besuch wieder weiter
benutzt werden. Man hat also weit höhere
Flexibilität. Karten sind ab $ 10.- an der Bar
in der Schenke erhältlich.
Stiftungsfest Eintrittskarten
Werden ab dem 13. September im Klubbüro
erhältlich sein. Karten für Mitglieder sind
nur $ 20.- und schließen die Cocktailstunde,
das Essen, sowie die Tanzunterhaltung zu
den Klängen des Edelweiss Trios mit ein.
Bedingt durch Oktoberfest und anderen logistischen Problemen, können wir Eintrittskarten zwischen dem 6. und 19. Oktober leider nicht verkaufen.

Oktoberfest
By the time you read this our Oktoberfest
Tent will be set up already. As a matter of
fact the tent arrived on Monday, August
15th and setup started right away, as there
are only 5-6 weeks to do the complete setup
with all the electrical, technical, plumbing
services, stage setup, kitchen cleaning and
much more!
Just like last year, our Oktoberfest umbrella
organization is holding another “Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent” on Saturday, October
1st. Detailed information and tickets can be
obtained directly from Oktoberfest Inc. 519570-HANS
This first day of Oktoberfest will be of
course Friday, Oct. 7th where we have no
problem filling our club to capacity! We
start in the Schenke for lunch and then at
4pm we continue with another event in the
Schenke. Later on, the Hall and Tent will
open at 6pm. As always, socializing will the
the name of the game and to cheer with
some beer will be just “natural”. Be part of
it and participate! We will be here and your
friends are probably waiting for you!!

How very important this event is for our
club treasury should be known by most
members! If you are new, then attend the
annual membership meeting and you’ll be
informed! It’s as important as ever - that’s
why we are working hard to remain “the”
cultural attraction during the KW Oktoberfest!
Preparations are already underway, be it in
the kitchen, the administration or general
setup inside or outside: there is a beehive of
activities preparing and getting ready.
Challenge this year will be again to find
enough licensed security staff as our government is very strict and does not allow
just anyone to be put on a door. However the
good news is that we have trained enough of
our own staff to take the necessary tests and
this year we’ll have only our own security
staff working on our premises. The struggles
are not over though: Other departments also
have staffing issues with similar issues as
government requires certification for example from food workers, or from beverage
servers. All supervisors are of course personally liable in view of the Occupational
Health and Safety Act. (this means in a work
accident situation the supervisor himself/
herself is on the hook, our insurance would
and will not cover any fines. There is really
no leeway – our government does come
down hard on anyone! It is really a big dilemma!
So, our ever growing challenge year after
year is to staff all the various departments
with competent and trained personnel. This
trend has been more prevalent as our organization moves into the next season!
Admission ticket sales have out-done last
years sales again! The pace of sales has
exceeded last years by far and of course this
is the case since our tickets are available on-

line. However for mid week (Sunday until
Thursday) during Oktoberfest we have still
an excellent supply of tickets available!
Unfortunately we have also discovered that
ticket scalping is still a big problem. Tickets
are sold on the internet for hugely inflated
prices. We have proof of these cases where
tickets are sold for $ 75 each. However
we’ve seen some action from the police and
they actually have laid charges against these
scrupulous individuals. After all it is an illegal activity to sell tickets for more than their
face value!!
You, our members of course enjoy the added
benefit to be admitted free of charge on Sunday and Monday of Oktoberfest!! Please
bring your membership card along, since
our staff at the door needs to see proof! On
Tuesday evening we will be only open in
the Schenke, however on Wednesday night
we feature a polka night with the Black
Forest Band and guest star Walter Ostanek.
“An evening of E-I-E-I-E-I-O’s“. Tickets for
that night are the only $ 10.- and are of
course available on line as well. Witness the
polka legend yourself and be part of it!!
Sunday Brunch
Every once in a while we get calls of people
wanting to come for brunch on Sunday during Oktoberfest. Due to logistics and the
nature of the Sunday (family day) we will
not be able to provide a brunch on either
Sunday the 9th nor Sunday the 16th of
October.
Pre Paid Account Card
In order to offer more convenience and
choice to our customers we offer a pre-paid
account card for use in our restaurant. This
card can be purchased at the bar in the
Schenke and offers some substantial advantages over a credit card. For instance, since
it is pre-paid there is no credit check or
invoice to deal with. There are no additional or hidden fees and the card is absolutely
transferable to a friend or family member.
One can use this card to pay for a coffee at
one visit and pay for a meal the next and so
on until it is used up. Of course, the card
can be re-loaded again at any time. Since it
is redeemable in our restaurant it makes the
ideal gift for everyone who visits the club on
a regular basis!! Cards are available from $
10.- and up.
Concordia “Stiftungsfest” Club Birthday
Party
Tickets for this event will be available from
September 13th. Price per ticket is $ 20.- for
members. This (subsidized) price includes a
free Cocktail hour, the dinner, entertainment to the sounds of the Edelweiss Trio as
well as the HST. Due to Oktoberfest we will
not be able to sell admission tickets for this
event between October 6th and 19th.

Der Sommer kam mit aller Gewalt und
Höchsttemperaturen und so mancher
wünschte sich ein paar kühle und nasse
Tage vom Monat Mai. Wir hoffen natürlich
daß alle die Hitzewelle gut überstanden
haben.
Unsere letzte Meeting fand nach der PatioEröffnung statt, bei welcher unsere Mitglieder einen freien Hamburger und ein kleines
Bierchen bekamen.
Das Picnic im Juli verlief trotz der strengen
Regeln des Clubs reibungslos mit viel Spass,
Bingo und natürlich einem guten Essen.
Die Frauen brachten reichlich Salate und
Klaus Basler servierte leckere Schnitzel und
Würste. Wir hatten eine kleine SommerPause und unsere regelmäßige Zusammenkunft, jeden ersten Mittwoch des Monats,
fängt wieder an am 7. Sepember in der
Jägerstube, wo unsere Tages-Tour nach
Toronto am 16. September nochmal kurz
besprochen wird. Natürlich müssen wir uns
auch schon vorbereiten und planen für das
Oktoberfest. Also versäumt nicht unsere
Meeting am 7. September.

LADIES GROUP
Summer had arrived with with full force
and some very high temperatures – made
one think of last May when the temperature
was cool and we had lots of rain.
We had our last meeting after the Patio
Opening with a free hamburger and a small
beer which was enjoyed by all. Our Picnic
in July was fun even with the new Club
Rules. We played Bingo and Klaus Basler,
our Farm Chef, prepared the well known
Schnitzel and Sausage, which together with
all the food, salads and goodies from our
Ladies was delicious.
After a short summer break we will again
start our regular monthly meetings, Wednesday, September 7th at 7:30 pm at which
time our trip to Toronto September 16th will
be brievly discussed. Also, Oktoberfest is
coming soon and we need to discuss and
plan for the same.
Therefore, please mark your calendar and
do not miss this important meeting.

Ehe man sich versieht, ist der Sommer vorbei. Am 4. Juni trafen wir uns in der
Concordia Schenke zum Spargelessen.
Inzwischen (August) verbrachten wir 3 Tage
in Grand Bend, mehr darueber in der naechsten Ausgabe. In diesem Monat werden wir
eine Versammlung haben bezueglich des
Oktoberfestes. Jeder wird per Phone oder EMail über das genaue Datum unterrichtet.
Die “Onkel Hans Lotterie” wird wieder
stattfinden. Die Einzelheiten werden in der
Versammlung besprochen.
Hoffe, jeden bei guter Laune und Gesundheit wiederzusehen.

Dear members, before you know it, the summer is over. On June 4., we met for an
Asparagus-dinner, which was enjoyed by
everybody. In the meantime, we spend some
time in Grand Bend, more about this in the
next edition. There will be a meeting in
September regarding to the Oktoberfest. You
will be informed by phone or E-Mail. We
sell the “Onkel Hans” tickets again, more
about it at our upcoming meeting.

Schlachtenbummler der
Concordia Chöre - Europa Reise 2011
Zuerst ein Danke an die Concordia Chöre,
die eine fantastische Europa-Reise geplant,
organisiert und durchgeführt haben. Ich
denke, dass ich im Namen aller Schlachtenbummler berichten kann, dass diese Reise,
mit den Konzerten, ein Erlebnis war. Mit
Stadtbesichtigungen, Donau-Schiffahrt, Nationalpark mit Seen, Fahrt ins Blaue, Besichtigungen, sowie Schokoladenfabrik,
erlebten wir ein vielfältiges Programm.
Danke an Cecilia und Georg Piller, die uns
wunderschöne Stunden mit Chören aus der
Steiermark, Blaskapelle und Schuhplattlern, sowie reichliche Verplegung geboten
haben.

Thanks to Cecilia and George Piller, they
gave us hours and hours of pleasure in form
of Choirs out of the Province of Steiermark,
also some traditional bands und Schuhplattlers. They also made sure that nobody got
hungry on the trip.
Lots of thanks also to all the helpers, the
ones who organized the trip and the ones
who helped to load and unload the suitcases.
As travel companions with the Choir, we
had eventful 15 days in Germany, Austria,
Slovenia and Croatia!

Concordia Choir
After many many months of rain, summer
did arrive with a vengeance!
The only choir event in July was in Mannheim at the Memorial and then back to Paul
Tuerrs farm. Thank you to the German
Remembrance Society for the invitation for
the male choir to perform. Unfortunately
that was what turned out to be the hottest
day on record, with a humidex of almost 50
degrees, so thank you to the brave souls who
came out.
August 8th is the choir’s first official practice of the new year. August 13 is our traditional chicken BBQ picnic at the farm.
Please be aware that the club has imposed
new farm rules that no longer allow us to
open the farm gates to allow the public in.
This has been a challenge for us, as we now
have to have a person at the gate to monitor
entrance. So even though this is a public
event, open to not only other German clubs,
but the general public at large, we will work
with the club and these new rules. We hope
to have a person at the gates until 8 pm and
it would be really unfortunate that anyone
who has arrived later cannot gain entrance.
As this is the first time this new rule has
been imposed, we would welcome any feedback from our guests, so we can work
together with the club on future improvements. It would be really unfortunate if we
could no longer have this event open to the
general public, so we thank everyone who
could attend, and for your understanding.

September - as sure as summer will come,
it’s certain that leaves will turn colour in
fall. That brings us to our favorite season,
Autumn! Why not join us for the crowning
of the new Wine Queen at our Winzerfest on
September 17th. We will say a fond farewell
and thank you to last years queen Alexandria Nowak, and with the strains of the Edelweiss Trio a new wine queen will be duly
chosen. I wonder what gentlemen will step
up to the dancing challenge to walz with
our new queen? See the enclosed advertising for ticket prices and time. Dinner at 7
pm.
October - this years Oktoberfest will be from
the 7th to 15th. We will look to our members
once again to help fill the volunteer list and
help with our games booths. Each member
is expected to take at least one shift!! Be
sure to sign up with Christine Schwegel at
practice. Call your children and grandchildren and friends! What better way to stay
connected or encourage others to join if we
all share the work!

Seniorenhaus Concordia
Im Juni waren der Kinderchor mit dem
Schulchor der Concordia Sprachschule, im
Concordia Seniorenhaus.
Unter der Leitung von Frau Angela Werner,
sangen die Kinder für die Einwohner des
Concordia- Hauses und der Villa Concordia!
Mit deutschen Liedern sangen sich die
Kinder in die Herzen der Senioren und wurden mit viel Applaus belohnt.
Das Concordia Seniorenhaus gab eine Spende an Frau Angela Werner, damit Noten
oder andere Unterlagen angeschafft werden
können.
Das Concordia Seniorenhaus bedankt sich

Nach einem sehr langen Flug Toronto Panama City – Porto Alegre – Santa Cruz,
landeten am 4. Juli 2011 fünf Spieler der
Canadischen Icestock Mannschaft in Santa
Cruz do Sul an der südspitze Brasiliens bei
deren Winter-Temperatur von + 1°C. Wir
kamen um an dem “Copa America Eisstock
Turnier” teilzunehmen. Santa Cruz do Sul
hat circa 120.000 Einwohner wovon 85%
deutschsprachig sind. Der Ort veranstaltet
auch ein jährliches Oktoberfest mit circa
300.000 Besuchern.
So kühl die Aussentemperaturen waren so
warm war der Empfang der dortigen Eisstockschützen. Bei einem original Gauchoessen mit jeder Menge Fleisch vom Spies
und einem exellenten lokalen Bier wurde
die Stimmung bald noch wärmer.

Where did the summer go??? It’s hard to
believe September has arrived, and the end
of the camping season is quickly coming
into view.
Since our last Nachrichten, the campers
have had our Canada Day celebration, our
Closing Picnic, and our Annual Meeting,
but due to deadlines for submitting reports,
I can only report on our Canada Day Picnic
/ Volleyball Tournament / Fireworks Display.
The weather was a little uncooperative, but
we were able to complete the Volleyball
Tournament, as well as the Fireworks display, but the unstable air meant that the Hot
Air Balloon was unable to launch, and was
rescheduled to the Closing Picnic. The only
thing successfully “launched” was one of
the canopies that caught an updraft, cleared
the fence, and went for a swim in the pool!
It came out quite clean, but we couldn’t convince Klaus that we should toss the other
two in to get them cleaned too.
Congratulations to Alex and Alison Spiridonov who won the Hot Air Balloon ride, I
hope we were able to get you off the ground
at the Closing Picnic.
Thanks to all the Campers for complying
with the campfire ban that seemed to be at
the height of the mosquito season, but we all
made it!
I’ll report on the Closing Picnic, and Annual
Meeting in the October Nachrichten. (did I
really say October already??)

Garden Group
Our final meeting before our summer break
was a Garden Outing. We visited the gardens of Carol Kay on June 8, 2011 on 40
Birchcliff Ave., Kitchener. What a lovely
combination of gardens and water features,
old lights, doors and knobs. It was a work of
art and many came home with bulbs of
alyum or water pond plants. We thank Carol
for her lemonade and hospitality, answering
our many questions. Thank you Elisabeth
Salewsky for helping to arrange this visit for
us.
Our September meeting will feature Bob
Wildsong for “an amusing talk on ideas
linked to garden herbs throughout history.”
We hope to see everyone on September 13th
at 7:30 pm at the Concordia Club.

Am 23. July hatte die Tischtennis Gruppe
ihr alljährliches Picknik an der “Home on
the Range” auf unserer Concordia farm. Von
2 Uhr mittags bis das Bier ausging. Alle
Mitglieder und Gäste erschienen pünktlich.

Unser Präsident Henry Laube und seine
Frau Ellen organisierten alles, und dafür sei
Ihnen vielen Dank.
Anschliessend wurden die Tombola Preise
verlost, die von allen Mitgliedern gestiftet
worden sind. Auch vielen Dank dafür. So
im grossen und ganzen, wir hatten ein
schönes Picknik, gutes Wetter, gute Freunde, was kann es schöneres geben. An einer
persönlichen Note an Margarita Malthaner,
die mir meinen “Augsburger Bierstein”, den
ich vergessen hatte, brachte. “Gracias”. Bis
zum Donnerstag, wie immer.
Dank auch allen die mitgeholfen haben, da
das Picknik ein Erfolg war. Da war Hans
Malthaner der für die Alkoholgenehmigung
und die Getränke sorgte, Gisela und Hans
Seidemann für Kaffee und Tee und Edith
Giertz, die alle anrief, für Salate und
Beilagen. Natülich auch allen Frauen für
ihre Kuchen und Salate.
Besonders freuten wir uns, dass unser Klubpräsident Karl Braun mit seiner Frau
Katharina erschienen ist. Ich weiss, er sollte
bestimmt auch am Picknik der deutschen
St. Mary’s Gemeinde dabei sein, das auch
am 23. July war, aber er sagte, man kann nur
an einer Stelle sein. Karl, alle Ehre, da du
zu uns kamst. Wir hoffen es hat euch gefallen.
Unser Eddy Filipitsch organisierte das
“Bean bag game”, leider konnte seine Frau
Stefanie nicht dabei sein. Wir hoffen
Stefanie fühlt sich besser.
Um 6 Uhr brachte unser Chef Klaus, die
Rippchen und Hühnchen, und Klaus wurde
unserer Erwartung gerecht, das Essen war
super. Vielen Dank dafür. Nach dem Essen
wurden die Pokale für die Einzelspiele von
Präsident Henry und Vize-Präsident Stefan
Babic ausgeteilt.

Dear Friends !
On July 23, 2011 the Table tennis group had
their annual Picnic on the Home of the
Range. From 2 pm until the Beer ran out. All
the members and their guests where on
time. Our President Henry Laube and his
wife Ellen organized everything and we
thank them for it. Thanks to everybody, who
helped organizing the picnic.
Thanks to Hans Malthaner for getting the
drinks and the liquor licence, Gisela and
Hans Seidemann for Coffee and Tea, and
Edith Giertz for phoning all the ladies, so
the ladies knew what to bring along. Thanks
to all our wifes for the salads and cakes.
It was a special surprise, that our Club President and his wife Katharina came. I know,

he was also supposed to be at the St. Mary’s
picnic that day, but as Karl said “I can only
be in one place”. Karl, it was an honour that
you came to our picnic. Thank you, we hope
you liked it.
Our Eddy Filipitsch organized the “Bean

hope she feels better again.
At 6 pm our chef cook Klaus Basler came

Farm. The horse back ride at Conestogo Horse Back
Adventures was well attended. We had two groups
that went on a one hour ride and a BBQ with
refreshments afterward. A couple of the riders got a
little wet when their horses decided it was too hot
and walked to the deeper part of the river. - And
some say horses are stupid.
We had a couple of rentals for the Home On The
Range this summer. I trust that the facility was satisfactory for you and thank you for using our facility.
We will be having a Halloween Party at the Home
On The Range for all of the Concordia Club Members and their friends and family. We will be combining our amateur night with this function. We
have a lot of amazing talent amongst our Concordia
Members. We have singers, dancers and awesome
musicians. There will be food and refreshments
available at reasonable prices. There are no other
costs for this event. We will have prizes for the best
costumes and the best entertainers. This will be a
lot of fun so don’t miss out. If you would like to be
part of the amateur night you can sign up at 5 pm in
the Home On The Range. This party will be September 10th, from 5 pm til 1 pm.
Oktoberfest is one month away. I know time really
flys. We had a corn roast and annual meeting on
August 28th. We also had our sign up for the shooting booth for Oktoberfest at this function. We are
still short a lot of volunteers to man the shooting
booth. I will make sure that the sign up sheet is at
the Halloween Party. Why pay $75.00 for scalpers
tickets when you can get in for free just by working
one shift for our group. If you work two shifts you
will get a free meal at Oktoberfest and a free
Christmas Dinner. We could really use your help.
