Bericht des Präsidenten
Der Winter hält dieses
Jahr lange an und lässt
sich nicht vertreiben.
In unserem Garten
blühen die Schneeglöckchen in voller
Pracht und sehnen sich
nach Wärme und Sonnenschein.
Mathias
Schuster und ich, wir
können es kaum erwarten, die ersten
Spatenstiche im Blumengarten zu machen. Es haben sich einige junge Leute
bereit erklärt, uns bei der Gartenarbeit zu
helfen, wofür wir euch dankbar sind. Wir
haben Verständnis, dass jüngere Leute am
Tag arbeiten müssen und abends wollen
wir unsere Gäste auf der Terasse nicht
stören. Es gibt viele Pensionisten die sich
daran beteiligen könnten, anstatt kluge
Reden über uns zu halten. Für mich ist
das keine Degradierung auch als Präsident
Blumen zu pflanzen. Für mich ist es
immer eine Freude, wenn sich auch
unsere Gäste an unseren Blumen erfreuen.
Sollte jemand für uns Zeit haben, könnt
ihr euch mit uns in Verbindung setzen.
Unser Präsidenten-Ball war gut besucht.
Leider konnte ich nicht alle Mitglieder begrüßen und mich für ihre Unterstützung
bei der Vorstandswahl im Februar bedanken. Nochmals herzlichen Dank an Uwe
Schlüter für die 9jährige Präsidentschaft
in unserem Klub. Meine Frau Kathi und
ich möchten uns nocheinmal herzlich bei
der Frauengruppe für die Einladung zum
Bockbierfest bedanken. Es war ein gelungener Abend. Wir gratulieren Kyra Pfister,
unserer neuen Miss Concordia für das
Jahr 2011. Wir wünschen ihr ein erfolgrei-

ches Jahr mit vielen wertvollen Erinnerungen. Unser Dank geht an Kristen Storer, sie war eine hervorragende Miss Concordia und hat unseren Klub gut vertreten. Wir hoffen sie nicht aus unseren
Augen zu verlieren. Kristen, wir wünschen dir weiterhin alles Gute auf deinem
Lebensweg.
Unsere Klubveranstaltungen werden im
Nachrichtenblatt bekannt gegeben und
sind in meinem Bericht überflüssig. Bitte
kommt, unterstützt den Klub und die
Gruppen. Die Vorbereitungen für den
Umbau unserer Waschräume sind voll in
Schwung.
Unserem Vorstandsmitglied und Freund
Klaus Schwegel wünschen wir nach einer
schweren Operation eine baldige Genesung.
Bitte reicht euere Berichte für das Nachrichtenblatt zeitig ein, sonst ist der Zug
abgefahren und ihr habt ihn verpasst.
Letzter Abgabetermin ist der 8. Tag im
Monat.
Inzwischen hatten wir das Klubgeländereinigen. Ein Dankeschön an diejenigen
die sich daran beteiligt haben.

President’s Report
The winter this year seems to be lasting
longer than usual, however in our front
flowerbed the Snowdrops are in full
bloom, a sure sign that spring is just
around the corner. Mathias Schuster and I
can’t wait to start working on the flower
beds at the Club. We thank some of the
younger members that inquired to help us
with the garden this year. We know young
people have to work during the day to
make a living-but this is when we do most
of our gardening work. In the afternoon
and evening we stay away from the patio,
so we don’t disturb our guests. Therefore,
we are after Pensioners to help out and get
some exercise. If young people also want
to help out on the occasional weekend,
we can look into that as well. As your
President, I am not ashamed to plant flowers and get my hands dirty. It is gratifying
to look at the beautiful flowers and listens
to the comments from some Guests. So, if
you are interested in helping us out and
bringing the gardens to life at the Club,
please let us know.
Our Presidents Ball this year in March
was well attended and please forgive me
if I did not get a chance to greet everybody
and thank you for your support at the
election in February. I would like to
extend another thank you to Uwe
Schlüter for the nine years he served us as
Club President. My Wife Kathy and I
would also like to thank the Ladies Group
for their Invitation to the Bockbierfest and
the crowning of our Miss Concordia in
April - it was a very enjoyable evening.
We want to congratulate our new Miss
Concordia, Kyra Pfister. We wish you all
the best, Kyla, in the coming year. We
would also like to thank Kristen Storer,
for an excellent job done, as our Miss
Concordia 2010. Kristen, we wish you all
the best in your future and don’t forget to
visit us whenever you can. Our Club
events are published in our Bulletin and
there is no need for me to go over them
again. Please come out and support your
Club and groups. By the time you read
this, the Club cleanup will be over and I
thank everybody that helped out. In other
business news, I want to let you know that
we are working on the preparation of the
washrooms renovation. Our board member Klaus Schwegel had to undergo a serious operation – Klaus we wish you all the
best and hope to see soon in our midst
again.

Muttertag
Schon heute möchte ich
Sie auf unsere beiden
Mut ter tagsveranstal tun gen am Sonntag, dem 8.
Mai aufmerksam machen.
Viele Mitglieder treffen
sich zu diesem Anlass mit
ihren Familien, um gemeinsam die Mutter bzw. Mütter zu
ehren. Ist das ein Anlass zu feiern? Ganz
bestimmt, und das lässt dann auch so
manches Mutterherz vor Freude höher
schlagen! Man sieht das an den strahlenden Gesichtern vieler Mütter!!
Wir schon gesagt, wir haben wieder zwei
Veranstaltungen: die erste um 12 Uhr mittags und die zweite um 17 Uhr. Unsere
Küche plant schon heute für ein erfolgreiches, farbenfrohes und schmackhaftes
Buffet. Jede Mutter, ganz gleich ob jung
oder alt bekommt gleich an der Tür eine
Blume von unserer neuen Miss Concordia
überreicht. Unser Personal wird alle Anstrengungen machen, diese zwei Veranstaltungen so perfekt wie möglich zu
gestalten. Bitte reservieren Sie rechtzeitig.

Weisser Spargel Menü
Jawohl, selbstverständlich bereiten wir
uns wieder auf unser Sondermenü mit
dem weißen Spargelspezialitäten vor!

Sehr wahrscheinlich wird es in der dritten oder vierten Maiwoche so weit sein!
Wir haben dieses Sondermenü schon in
der Vergangenheit angeboten und es war
jedes Mal sehr beliebt und erfolgreich. Im
letzten Jahr war es sogar so beliebt, dass
wir Mühe und Not hatten, mehr Nachschub vom Gärtner zu erhalten. Wir
bestellen in diesem Jahr deshalb etwas
mehr und hoffen natürlich auf regen
Zulauf, damit nichts verschwendet wird.
Da wir wetterbedingt leider nicht genau
wissen, wann uns der Spargel zur Verfügung steht, bitten wir Sie, sich doch
bitte telefonisch oder auch auf unserer
Webseite zu erkundigen, wann es so weit
sein wird. Wir halten Sie auf dem laufenden!!
Freier WiFi Internet Internet Zugang
Seit einem Jahr bietet der Klub seinen
Gästen freien drahtlosen Internet Zugang
in seinen Räumlichkeiten an. Kunden
können deshalb ihre Internet-Geräte mitbringen, sei es zu einer geschäftlichen
Besprechung oder auch nur so in der
Schenke.
Eröffnung der Gartenwirtschaft
Sollte das Wetter mitmachen, feiern wir
in diesem Jahr die Eröffnung unserer Gartenwirtschaft am Dienstagabend, dem 31.
Mai. Zünftige Blasmusik wird es geben
und eine Bierprobe mit deutschem Weissbier (entweder Weihenstephaner oder
Paulaner) vom Fass! Natürlich wird auch
gegrillt, es gibt Bratwurst, Leberkäse oder
Hamburger, die wir zu je $ 4 einschließlich Steuern anbieten werden. Es soll ab
17 Uhr losgehen! Seien Sie mit dabei. Wir
müssen nur noch hoffen, daß das Wetter
mitmacht und auch viele Mitglieder von
diesem Angebot Gebrauch machen. Es
spielt die Transylvania Hofbräu Blaskapelle! Sollte sich der Wetterbericht verschlechtern dann wäre es wohl empfehlenswert, sich telefonisch im Klub oder
auf unserer Webseite davon zu informieren, ob diese Veranstaltung stattfindet
bzw. nicht.
Bürostunden des deutschen Generalkonsulats im Concordia Club
Falls Sie sich wundern, wann die nächsten Bürostunden bzw. Sprechstunden
des deutschen Generalkonsulats im Concordia Club stattfinden, habe ich im Moment keine definitive Antwort. Es besteht
leider ein Personalengpass in Toronto und
eine Sprechstunde außerhalb des Konsulats ist im Moment leider nicht möglich.
Jedoch wird man die Sache im Auge
behalten, und einen Sprechtag abhalten,
sobald es möglich sein wird. In Sachen
Reisepässe muss man sowieso nach Toronto anreisen, da dies hier nicht durchgeführt werden kann.

werden alle Karten auf die selbe Art und
Weise wie im letzten Jahr verkauft.
Karten werden ebenso ab dem 13. Mai online an unserer Webseite oder auch bei

5pm. This event, in honour of all mothers,
represents one of the more important
occasions in the annual line up of club
activities! It is always a pleasure to see
whole families come out to not only cherish their mothers but also their grandmothers! There is probably a sweet spot in
every mother's heart when she knows her
loved ones all come together to celebrate
“her” as the center of attention! I have
seen many proud and gleaming grandmothers at these events!
Tradition dictates that our Chef Andreas
and all his staff in the kitchen will make
sure everyone will have a culinary feast.
Of course, as we have done in the past:
every mother regardless of age will be presented with a flower at the door by our
new Miss Concordia. All of our staff will
ensure that everything on that day will be
just perfect. Price per person will be $
20.95, children 4-12 pay $ 9.50 and children under 4 are free! My advise is to
book early- especially since the brunch
sells out very quickly!
White Asparagus Promo
Yes, of course we'll do it again! Somewhere around the third week of May and
maybe the 4th week of May, depending
on the growing season, we'll be featuring
our special white asparagus menu, just
like we've done in previous years! On the
menu will be “fresh” white asparagus
with suitable menu choices and in different variations and combinations. Chef
Andreas is fine tuning his menu and is
currently working out final details on this
delicacy. As we cannot pinpoint with certainty as to when the asparagus will be

available we'll have to ask you to inquire
by either phoning the club office or by
checking our web page!!
As this feature has only a short window of
opportunity I am sure you do not want to
miss it. Many of our guests have told us in
the past, that “if we would have known
it's on – we would have been there for
sure!” Let me assure you, these white
asparagus specialties are not to be missed!

Special clinic of the German Consulate
General
Last year at this time we've announced a
special “Sprechstunde/Clinic” for consular matters which was held in one of
our rooms here at the Concordia Club.
Unfortunately due to short staffing they
are not able to schedule anything at this
time, but will try to set up a date as soon
as it would be possible. Sorry, but at this
time I cannot give you any definite
answer as to when this may be. Should
you have passport related issues, then
you'll have to go to the Toronto office anyways!

I've wrote a long article in last month's
Nachrichten with all the relevant details
as to how and when our Oktoberfest tickets go on sale. In principle they are sold
the same way as it was done in 2010. The
exact details are available in the April
2011 issue of the Nachrichten, which is

Concordia Bowlers
Hello Everyone!
By the time you read this report, we will
have had our Play-Offs. I will report the
results in the next bulletin. We had our
closing banquet at the club on Saturday,
April 30th. We had a delicious meal and a
nice evening together.
We are now looking forward to our year
end trip on August 17th. The bowlers will
be traveling to Toronto that day. We will
have a buffet lunch at the Old Mill Inn
and Spa followed by a harbour cruise.
After some free time, we will attend the
performance “Totem” by Cirque du Soleil.
Finally, best wishes go out to our bowlers
who are celebrating a birthday this
month.

Als ich diesen Bericht schreibe, stehen
die Play-Offs noch vor uns. Die
Ergebnisse werden im nächsten Bericht
bekannt gegeben. Unser Abschlussbankett
fand am Samstag den 30. April im Klub
statt. Das Essen war sehr lecker und wir
haben alle einen schönen Abend zusammen verbracht.
Am 17. August machen wir einen Ausflug
nach Toronto. Wir essen im Old Mill Inn
und Spa, machen eine Kreuzfahrt im
Hafen und gehen zu “Totem”, einer Aufführung des Cirque du Soleil.

It’s been a LONG, COLD winter and the
gardeners are itching to get into their gardens, especially after our lovely visit to
Canada Blooms in March. It was a welcome breath of summer and colour.
There have been a few changes in our
executive. First of all, a hearty THANK
YOU to Ursula Schwegel for the many
years as our trusty treasurer. Our new
treasurer, as of February 18, 2011, is Fred
von Kaitz. Welcome to Fred in his new
position.
Our April 13 presentation was by K-W
tree expert, Greg Salvian. Greg discussed
how and when to trim shrubs and trees.
We appreciate Greg stepping in to fill this
important topic, a change from our initial
presenter.
In May, our topic is Water Gardening, creating and maintaining ponds. Ponds are a
very desirable element in urban and rural
landscapes, especially as they attract animals. We look forward to seeing you in
the Jagerstube on May 11, 2011 at 7:30 for
our presentation by Don Stewart, water
garden Specialist.

Senioren-Gruppe
mehr Zeit. Wir werden sogar eine Auswahl
haben von kurzen deutschen Spielfilmen!
Waehrend sich mehrere unserer Mitglieder
mit Schnupfen und Erkaeltungen zuhause
herumplagten, waren die Senioren mit nur
13 Personen zum monatlichem Treffen am
Mittwoch den 6. April um 3 Uhr nachmittags in der Jagerstube vertreten. Es war trotzdem sehr nett, und der geschaeftliche Teil
ging unter der Leitung unseres Praesidenten
Franz Feest schnell voran. Die Kasse
stimmt, und wie in den Vorjahren waren die
Senioren wieder imstande eine kleine
Geldspende fuer das Anlegen von Blumen
ausserhalb des Klugebaeudes zu machen.
Neue Mitglieder sind jederzeit willkommen,
d.h. offiziell Jahrgang 1946 oder aelter qualifiziert als “Senior” Zur Zeit besteht unsere
Mitgliedschaft aus den Jahrgaengen 1919
bis 1943. – “Junges Blut” ist jederzeit herzlich willkommen! Ausser geselligem Zusammensein in deutscher Sprache, tauschen wir auch Neuigkeiten und guten Rat
aus ueber Themen wie Gesundheit, Renten
und Steuern.
Mit der musikalischen Begleitung von Heidi
Feest gratulierten wir bei Kaffee und Kuchen den folgenden vier (4) Mtgliedern, die
alle im Monat April ihr Wiegenfest feiern:

Frohen Geburtstag an Euch alle! - Weiterhin
begruessten wir auch auch Margarete Moric

Wir fuehrten die neue Tradition von netten
deutschen Spielfilmen weiter fort, und nach
dem “Hauptmann von Koepenick” (im
Maerz) sahen wir diesmal zwei Sendungen
der amuesanten deutschen Fernseh-Komoedie “Drei Frauen vom Grill”. Es zeugte
viel Frohsinn und Gelaechter unter uns. – In
diesem Zusammenhang moechte ich Mitglieder und alle Gaeste (jederzeit willkommen!) daran erinnern, dass unser
naechstes Treffen der Senioren am Mittwoch den 4. Mai 2011 eine halbe Stunde
frueher, also um 14:30 Uhr (2:30 p.m.)
beginnt. – Somit haben wir fuer eine

Zuerst möchte ich mich bedanken, für die
Wiederwahl, so dass ich weiterhin für den
Hauptvorstand, das heisst zum Wohle des
Concordia Klubs tätig sein kann. Ich versichere,
dass ich, wie die Jahre zuvor, mein Bestes für
den Klub geben werde.
Der Präsidentenball war ein toller Erfolg und
unser neuer Präsident, Karl Braun, hat seine
Premiere mit grossem Beifall bestanden. Karl,
wir alle wünschen Dir viel Erfolg!
Gleichzeitig möchte ich meinem Komitee,
Ewald Nowak und Erika Kürs, sowie allen
Helfern, für die Mitarbeit der Vorbereitungen
dieser Veranstaltung, danken.

First of all, I want to thank the members, for
electing me again to the Concordia Club’s Main
Board. Like I did in the past years, I will work for
the Concordia Club, the way I always did and
give my best.
The Presidents Ball was a big success, and our
new president, Karl Braun, had his first appearance on the stage, and he earned a big applause
with his speech.
Karl, we all wish you a lot of achievements.
I want to thank my committee, Ewald Nowak and
Erika Kürs, and all helpers who helped with the
preparations to make this event a big success,

Wir trafen uns am 6. April 2011 in der Jägerstube. Natascha Steckel besuchte uns an
diesem Abend. Ihr Vortrag über Wellness
und Fitnes war sehr aufschlussreich, danke
Dir Natascha, wollen hoffen Dich bald
wieder zu sehen in unserer Gruppe.
Der lange Winter ist nun hoffentlich vorbei
und man kann wieder längere Spaziergänge
machen. Alles für das gesunde Leben und
vor allem fit zu bleiben.
Wie immer war das Bockbierfest gut besucht, hoffe ihr hattet alle eine gute Zeit.
Das Essen war gut und vor allem das Bockbier vom Fass war ausgezeichnet.
Danke an Koch Andreas und seine Crew.
Die Golden Keys sorgten für gute Musik,
denn die Tanzfläche war immer voll besetzt.
Auch unser neuer Klubpräsident, Karl
Braun und seine charmante Frau Katharina,
waren anwesend. Für die Unterstützung der
einzelnen Gruppen bedanken wir uns.
Die neue Miss Concordia 2011-12 wurde gewählt, sie heisst Kyla Pfister. Wir wünschen
Dir alles gute zu Deinem Ehrenamt.

Gruppe. Alice Mensch und Gisela Komardt.

Soccer season is upon us once again. The
team has been outside since the first Sunday
in April, tuning up for the 2011 outdoor season. We held our AGM back in March and
elected the following members to our executive:

being coached this year by Gerard Douglas

During the off-season we had two players
reach milestones. On behalf of the team I
would like to welcome Rainer Mueller and
Henry Frey to their fifties.
We are always looking to add new players to
our team. If you are over the age of 35 and

Concordia Choir
Spring has finally arrived! In March the
choir joined the Rosenmontag festivities in
the Schenke hosted by the Narrenzunft. We
were also honored once again to sing for our
guests at the Presidents ball. The month of
April is spent practicing, practicing and
more practicing. We get a short break from
our practicing for the All Choirs Night on
April 8th. This year will be the 45th year
that Dr. Alfred Kunz has hosted. It gives us
a chance to stay in touch with old friends
and new, as well as perform for each other.
We would like to thank Dr. Kunz for organizing this event again, and we would also
like to thank this years participants. We had
11 choirs this year. They were, Concordia
Male and Mixed, Gloryland Chorus, Transylvannia, Nith Valley singers, Schneider
Male Chorus, Stratford Teutonia, London
Cantorion, Music alive, Tenor Delight and
the Twin City Harmonizers.
We look forward to seeing you all at our
Spring Concert. Please note the date and
time in the advertising inside.
All singers, please make note of our concert
in Hamilton Germania on May 14th.
June 4th we will also be performing at the
Mannheim club for the Transylvania anniversary. Please ensure you make note of
dates and times during rehearsals or contact
a board member for details. May and June
promises to be a very busy time, so don’t
miss the bus!!
All singers, please start thinking about gathering your donations and prizes and gift certificates for our Grand Tombola at the chicken picnic in August. Our hard working treasurer Fred Trautrim would like to remind
all singers its never too early to start planning for this event.

Unsere Klubmeisterschaftsspiele sollen am
7. April unter den wachsamen Augen
unseres Turnierleiter John Mayer beginnen.
So kommt alle raus und spielt mit. Ich muss
sagen unsere "Seniorengruppe", die am
Dienstagmorgen spielen, die meisten sind
über 80 Jahre alt, "Boy o Boy" die hauen auf
den Putz, dass es nur so staubt. So wir sehen
uns alle jeden Donnerstag um 20.00 Uhr.

Treffpunkt
Happy Mother’s Day! We hope that all of
you Mothers out there have an enjoyable
day. Perhaps you will be allowed to sleep in
a bit, followed by breakfast… or maybe
brunch?
The last few weeks have been pretty busy.
On March 26th, we went to the President’s
Ball and had a wonderful evening, dressed
in our finest. On April 2nd, the Ladies
Group hosted Bockbierfest, which was a lot
of fun. Dinner was delicious (can’t go wrong
with schnitzel) and the “Golden Keys”
sounded great. Thank-you to the Ladies
Group for a memorable evening!
This month, on May 6th, we are hosting our
own “Fruhlingsfest” in the main hall. The
Golden Keys will provide the entertainment, so come on out and support our
group! Tickets are $15 and can be purchased
at the door.
