an Bord präsentiert. Für mehr Variation wechselt die Karte jetzt monatlich, und
abseits aller ausgetretenen Pfade begeben Sie sich mit mir auf eine Entdeckungs­
tour. Seit dem Jahr 2000 darf ich für Sie Weine empfehlen. Damit Sie an Bord eine
hervorragende Auswahl haben, verkoste ich zusammen mit einem Expertenteam
jedes Jahr eine Vielzahl von Weinen. Meine Weinreise führt mich dabei in berühmte
Lagen, aber auch in bisher wenig bekannte Regionen. Und diese besonderen
Tropfen möchte ich Ihnen zukünftig unter der Rubrik „off the beaten track“ vorstellen.
Es handelt sich dabei um Spezialitäten und echte Geheimtipps. Ab sofort bieten
wir Ihnen zusätzlich jeweils einen Weißwein und einen Rotwein an, zum Rein­
schmecken und Entdecken.
Als besondere Weine, „off the beaten track“, präsentieren wir Ihnen im Juni einen
eleganten und charaktervollen 2e Cru Classé aus Margaux sowie einen saftigen
und aromatischen Sauvignon Blanc aus dem Napa Valley.

Leaving known roads behind to discover excitement. Entering unknown territory
instead of following old paths. Off the beaten track is precisely where Lufthansa
are heading with the presentation of their new and even wider selection of on-board
wines. And for even more variation, our wine list will change monthly, so that you
can join me on a journey of discovery. I have been making wine recommendations
for you since 2000. My team of experts and I taste a great number of wines every
year to ensure that you have an excellent variety on board. This journey of wine
tasting takes me to both famous sites and hitherto less known regions. And it is
these wines that I wish to present to you in the future under the rubric “off the
beaten track”. These are specialties and true insiders‘ tips. From now on, we are
also pleased to offer you both a white and a red wine to taste and discover.
As a special wine for “off the beaten track” in June we have an elegant and
characterful 2eme Cru Classé from Margaux as well as a juicy, aromatic Sauvignon
Blanc from the Napa Valley.

„Die perfekte Verkörperung des Terroirs
von Louis Roederer, wo Feinheit, Rein­
heit, Präzision und Harmonie das rechte
Licht auf die Tugenden dieses großar­
tigen Weinanbaugebietes werfen.“ So
beschreibt Kellermeister Jean-Baptiste
Lécaillon den Jahrgang 2007. Für seine
Arbeit kann er auf 420 Parzellen von
Premier Crus und Grand Crus zurück­
greifen. So hat auch diese Cuvée aus
Chardonnay und Pinot Noir eine her­
vorragende Grundlage, die sich durch
eine feine Aromenfülle, Briochenoten
und komplexe Tiefe auszeichnet.

Roederer’s cellarmaster, Jean-Baptiste
Lécaillon, describes the 2007 vintage
as „the perfect representation of Louis
Roederer terroir, where finesse, purity,
precision and harmony throw the right
light onto the virtues of this stunning
wine-producing region”. He is able to
take advantage of 420 parcels of Pre­
mier and Grand Crus for his work. This
cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
therefore has the perfect foundation
and this shines through in its elegant
richness of aromas with hints of brioche
as well as in its complex intensity.

„Grosse Lage“ Riesling QBA, Schloss
Reinhartshausen, Deutschland
“Fistula”, also “Röhre” nannten die Römer
die Lage zwischen Hattenheim und
Erbach. Ein Hinweis auf Wasser im
Boden, im Laufe der Jahr­hunderte wurde
daraus der Wissel­brunnen. Mergelund Lössböden sorgen für optimale
Versorgung der Reben. Bedingungen,
die Weine mit feiner Frucht und
brillantem Charakter entstehen lassen.
The vineyard site between Hattenheim
and Erbach was known by the Romans
as “Fistula”, or “canal”. A reference to
water in the ground and in the course of
the centuries, this became the “Wissel­
brunnen”. Marl and loess soils ensure the
vines receive an optimum supply. These
conditions allow wines of elegant fruit and
outstanding character to be produced.

Aromen von Aprikose, Williamsbirne
und Ananas, feine Zitrusnoten und ein
Hauch von Holzwürze: Dieser Wein von
Kellermeister Harald Schraffl zeigt, dass
seine Idee, mit der Natur und deren
Ressourcen respektvoll umzugehen, in
erstklassigen Gewächsen endet. Dieser
Betrieb mit 140 Winzern zählt zu den
führenden Weinerzeugern Südtirols.
Flavours of apricot, pear and pineapple,
elegant notes of citrus and a touch of
oak spiciness: this wine from cellar
master Harald Schraffl shows that his
idea of handling nature and natural
resources with respect can result in
top class wines. This makes this winery
with its 140 growers one of the leading
wine producers in the Alto Adige.

Ein hellgelber Wein mit jugendlich
grünen Reflexen, dessen Duft reife
Aromen von gelben Früchten, Zitrus­
noten, exotischer Frucht sowie etwas
rote Paprika und Spargel im Hinter­
grund zeigt. Am Gaumen saftig, mit
guter Struktur und Länge. Ein Beweis,
dass das Napa Valley nicht nur für
Chardonnay eine erste Adresse ist.
This is a pale yellow wine with youthful
green reflexes and a bouquet of ripe
aromas of yellow fruit, notes of citrus and
exotic fruit as well as some red pepper
and asparagus in the background. On
the palate it is juicy with good structure
and length, showing that Napa Valley is
not only a top location for Chardonnay
but also for other varieties.

Barone Ricasoli gehören zur absoluten
Elite im Chianti Classico. Der Casalferro
ist ein reinsortiger Merlot aus der Ein­
zellage Casalferro. Dieser Cru duftet
nach würzigen Aromen, roter Frucht und
etwas Schokolade. Ein samtiger Tropfen,
der sich als Trinkwein im besten Sinne
des Wortes erweist.
Barone Ricasoli belongs amongst the
absolute elite of Chianti Classico.
Casalferro is a Merlot varietal solely
from the Casalferro vineyard. This Cru
has spicy aromas, red fruits and a dash
of chocolate. A velvety wine, it is ab­
solutely a pleasure to drink.

Sauvignon come together to create
a complex bouquet distinguished
by notes of cherry and blackberry,
dried figs, coffee and a subtle herbal
spiciness. The wine matures for 12
months in small oak casks, allowing
it to develop its rich and opulent
character.
2009 LFE 900 Single Vineyard Cuvée.
Louis Felipe Edwards, Chile
The secret of this outstanding cuvée
are the five different grape varieties
planted at an altitude of 900 meters
where the climate is influenced by the
Pacific and the Andes. Luis Felipe Ed­
wards says “I always had a dream of
producing a wine from the hillsides
around our estate”. The cool climate
gives very aromatic grapes, as this wine
with its intense bouquet of cassis shows.

Cru Classé, Margaux, Frankreich
Das Château hat eine bewegte Ge­
schichte. Für den US-Präsidenten
Thomas Jefferson, der das Weingut
1775 besuchte, kam es gleich hinter
Haut-Brion, Margaux und Lafite-Roth­
schild. Nach einem Dornröschenschlaf
hat Gonzague Lurton das Gut zu neuen
Höhen geführt. Ein eleganter Wein mit
feiner Frucht und seidigen Tanninen.
This Château has an eventful history.
For US President Thomas Jefferson
who visited the estate in 1775, it ranked
just after Haut-Brion, Margaux and
Lafite-Rothschild. After a long period of
inertia, Gonzague Lurton brought the
celebrated estate back to glory again.
This 2008 vintage shows elegance, fine
fruit, and silky tannins.
Off the beaten track
Fünf Rebsorten, angebaut in 900 Hö­
henmetern und klimatisch beeinflusst
vom Pazifik sowie den Anden, sind das
Geheimnis dieser großartigen Cuvée.
„Ich hatte immer die Vision, Wein an den
Hängen um unser Weingut zu pflanzen“
meint Luis Felipe Edwards. Das kühlere
Klima lässt aromatische Trauben
wachsen, wie dieser Tropfen mit seinem
intensiven Cassisduft beweist.

Eberbach, Deutschland
Von der Rosenhecke aus Wildrosen und
Schlehen, die auf den Felsen im Wein­
berg gedeiht, leitet sich der Wein­bergs­
name ab. Ein mildes Klima und Böden
aus wärmespeichernden Taunus-Quarzit
oder Löß und Lehm prägen diese Lage.
Hier können hochreife Trauben geerntet
werden, die später mit Anklängen
exoti­scher Früchte und getrockneter
Aprikosen im Glas über­zeugen.
The vineyard gets its name from the
hedgerows of wild roses and sloes which
thrive on the rocks in the vineyard. This
site is characterised by a mild climate as
well as soils of either warmth-conserving
Taunus quartzite or loess and loam.
Fully ripe grapes are harvested here
to produce this wine which is most
appealing in the glass with its resultant
notes of exotic fruit and dried apricots.

Für einen weißen Port bleiben die Trau­
ben längere Zeit auf der Maische und
werden anschließend nach traditioneller
Methode mit den Füßen behutsam ge­
presst. Nach Zugabe von Branntwein
reift diese Spezialität in großen Eichen­
fässern und erhält so ihr komplexes
Aroma von Orangenschalen, Datteln,
Feigen, balsamischen Gewürzen und
gerösteten Mandeln.
For white port the grapes remain on the
skins for longer and are subsequently
pressed carefully by foot in the traditional
way. After the addition of spirit, this
specialty is then matured in large oak
casks, thus obtaining its complex
bouquet of orange rind, dates, figs,
mild spices and roasted almonds.
