Our Mission Statement
The StudentAthlete

strives to provide information to student
athletes from athletic administration and NCAA
committees about topics discussed at meetings. As
representatives, we meet, discuss, and make decisions
while considering all studentathletes best interests.
We also want our studentathletes to be aware of those

Life as a studentathlete
By Sarah Pastorek (A Member of IUP’s Women’s Basketball program)
One of the leading struggles for studentathletes is stress. Two of the benefits
are our determination and management skills.
Time management is our forte. The amount of work we put in daily to both our
sport and our schooling is unbelievable. Not many people have the ability to
complete such a large number of tasks within a 24hour period. Student
athletes are one of the exceptions.
Our routines are most times undesirable. Yet, we chose our lives, and we
continue to choose the aspects that come with it. We choose how hard we
work on the court, field, course, track, or in the pool. We choose to give back
to the communities that support us. We choose how successful our teams
become. We choose to be great students in the classroom.
However, we didn’t choose to be competitors. Instead, were born competitors,
just as we were born destined to play at the college level. The love each of us
has for our sport is uncontrollable.
Many people see us as spoiled. Those that know us studentathletes however
know the sacrifices we make. Waking up for 5:30 a.m. workouts or finishing
practice around 9:30 p.m. or later is not ideal. Studies and school work
consume the rest of our day. It isn’t easy. It never was, and it never will be.
As Tom Hanks once said "If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it."
Coaches demand as much from us as our teachers do in the classroom.
However, all of us studentathletes know that school is our number one priority.
We understand the difference between temporary and permanent. We
understand that our athletic abilities and athletic careers are temporary and
that the knowledge and skills we are taught in the classroom need to develop
into permanent habits.
We have two jobs: to be a student first and an athlete second.
Be a studentathlete.
