WELCOME Alumni, Family & Friends A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS EMERALD SPONSORS Frank J. Bommarito, ’52 and the Bommarito Automotive Group Greg Divis, Sr., ‘58 Greg Divis, Jr., ‘84 Bill Schicker, ’52 and McMahon Ford RUBY SPONSORS John Villa, ’60 and Villa Lighting SAPPHIRE SPONSORS David Jockenhoefer ‘65 and Lighting Associates A Message from the President Dear Friends of St. Mary’s, Welcome to the 2015 Legacy Gala Dinner Auction! Auction Night is always special for me because the strong spirit of St. Mary’s family and tradition are in the air. I look forward to spending time with many of you this evening and sharing in the great passion we share for this wonderful institution! Tonight, our Legacy Honoree is Mrs. Jane Goff, Associate Principal at St. Mary’s. Sadly for us, this is Jane’s last year as Associate Principal. She is retiring at the end of this school year and leaves a significant and very special “legacy” behind. Mrs. Goff deserves great honor and thanks for her considerable contributions in educational innovations at St. Mary’s. She pioneered Brain Compatibility teaching focusing on how young men learn best. She introduced us to Standards-Based grading and created Professional Learning Teams. Mrs. Goff is recognized in the Educational Community as a visionary. Jane’s imprint on academic programs at SMHS have benefited thousands of our young men and brought recognition to St. Mary’s as a leading school utilizing “cutting edge” ideas with outstanding results. More than this, Jane’s leadership style embraced the entire St. Mary’s community with a special irreplaceable love. It has been my privilege to watch Jane care for this community the way a mother cares for her children and I’ve never seen anyone do this better. It is for this reason more than any other, Jane Goff will truly, truly be missed! Tonight we not only thank Jane, but show our support for this school which she has loved so well for so many years. Jane and I share the passion that our young men deserve the very best and so I encourage you to participate in this auction to your fullest potential only then can we provide the very best for them. Tonight we support our mission to provide a quality, Catholic education for our young men and assist those families who struggle financially so they can make this a reality for their sons. Let Jane Goff’s example inspire you tonight. Thank you in advance for your generosity, love and support of St. Mary’s this evening! Best regards, Michael F. LEGACY Honoree Jane Goff Mrs. Goff earned her B.A. in Special Education K-12 from the University of Missouri, St. Louis and her M.A. in Educational Processes from Maryville University. Mrs. Goff began her teaching career in 1976 as a 3rd grade classroom teacher in the Hillsboro School District. After 7 years, she became the 9th-12th grade Resource Consultant in the District where she initiated the resource program and "the Class Within a Class" or CWC model of delivering instruction to students with special needs. She moved onto to Churchill School as a teacher and also participated in the teacher development program there. In 1992 she became the first Learning Consultant for the Archdiocese of St. Louis working at both St. Mary’s High School and Rosary High School, piloting the Learning Consultant Program which has since been implemented in numerous Archdiocesan High Schools. Since then, she has presented this model to educators at the local and national level. In 1997, Mrs. Goff moved into her present administrative role as Academic Principal. As Academic Principal, Jane is an innovator. She was the first to introduce both the Academic Deans Model in the Archdiocese, a model that emphasizes teachers as leaders, and the Professional Learning Teams Model, which is a best practice in teacher professional development. Teachers know Jane values continuous improvement and that she relies on research and best practices to help make decisions and design programs. In the last ten years, her focus has been on differentiated instruction and brain compatible teaching and learning, especially the gender research on how boys learn. She has presented Brain Compatible Teaching and Learning to educators on the local and national level. In 2011, Jane won the Peabody Logos Leaders in Education Award. As Dr. Jane E. Pollock, Director of Learning Horizons stated “People rave about her leadership in expanding the view of private and parochial schools to providing more academic opportunities to all students, especially those struggling to learn. Jane’s forward thinking and acting in this area is recognized nationally, but she accepts the recognition with her customary humility.” Jane’s reason for becoming an educator almost forty years ago-a strong desire to help students realize they are gifted and valued and have an important place in this world-is still her number one focus. St. Mary’s students know she cares about them, their successes and failures and teachers know she is student-centered and will always consider what is best for them first and foremost. It is also why she was given the 2015 Marian Award, an award voted on by her colleagues and given to the person who best exemplifies the five Characteristics of Marianist Education. Jane has been married for 47 years and has two daughters, two granddaughters and one grandson. Her love for her family at home and here at St. Mary’s knows no bounds. She will be missed.
