Mr. Reichmuth’s and Mr. Baskerville’s grade six classes
enjoyed 2 mornings and 1 afternoon at the curling rink
Kindergarten students have been busy trying to trap our
class Leprechaun! He got away from us again this year
but left us a pot of gold! We are continuing to work on
letter recognition and letter sounds and we are working
hard on our writing! We are enjoying our new sensory
tub this week, colored spaghetti!! So slimy and so much
FUN!! Nikki is also joining in on the Fun, getting messy!
We are enjoying the beautiful weather and looking forward to Spring Break!
Thanks
Mrs. Sarah Reichmuth
Aside from our regular day to day routine we have celebrated St. Patrick's day, attended the music festival at
the hall and have done some Easter activities. We are
looking forward to learning about our cultures by doing
and presenting a "Culture In A Box".
Grade 2 Steinwalt
This month in Kindergarten with Ms. Beischer we have been studying bears. We have learned about hibernation, had a
Teddy Bear picnic, made a polar bear & grizzly bear craft and wrote facts about them. We also read Corduroy Bear and
created Corduroy bears in art class. In math we got to taste test which type of oatmeal we prefer and are learning how to
tell time. We have play centers that include Goldilocks and the Three Bears bin and a Teddy Bear hospital. We are also
learning about where we live in regards to our town, province, and country.
Our favourite song is to the tune of Jingle Bells, and of course it is about BEARS.
Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears
Black and Brown bears too.
They live in the ice and snow,
The forest and the zoo.
Mrs. Bell and Ms. Gobert’s grade one students started March by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We love his books and
all of the silly rhymes! Lately, we have been very busy with portfolio and report card activities. Now that we are finished
with that, we will be learning all about our five senses in science. As the spring weather is now upon us, please make
sure your child has rubber boots, splash pants and a change of clothes in their backpack. This would be greatly appreciated!

LOVE
TO
READ
Grade 4 Schappert collected just under $500 in pledges.
Major Pratt School’s Kindergarten to Grade 4
classes participated in their annual ‘I Love to
Read’ month in February. The students read
2228 books and collected a whopping
$1680.00 in pledges, all of which will be put
towards the K-8 Playground Enhancement
Initiative. Great job Early Years’ staff and students!
K-4 ‘I Love to Read’ book draw winners.
The K-8 Playground Enhancement Involves:





Replacing the ageing K-4 play structure
Relocating the Middle Years’ play structure
from the west side of the school to the south
play area for enhanced usage by the over
250 K-8 students
Replacing the old metal slides, swing sets and
spider web with a double U-swing
Building a berm to utilize the existing
landscape to create a winter sliding hill has
also been proposed (if space allows)
Reconfiguring the space to bring the soccer
field up to regulation size
Proposed K-4 play structure. (Modifications can
be made to accommodate individual school needs.)
Senior Years Undergrad Awards
The Undergrad Awards Day for the 2013-2014 school year was held on February 27. In the past, Major Pratt has acknowledge honour roll recipients in a birthday assembly at the end of each semester. As a staff we decided to try something new. We will have an
undergrad awards day in October of the following school year and acknowledge the students that have achieved honour roll status
over the entire school year. We also acknowledge the students with the highest mark in each of the grade 9-11 courses as well as
presentation of the Academic Proficiency Awards. Due to the construction and lack of space the awards for last school year were
postponed. Please see the lists below.
