FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
July was a wet month for everyone,
affecting people in different ways. I
was able to get to the Down Town Marshall cruise in on the square July 14th,
but due to the crazy weather, I was the
only one that made it to the Welcome
Center. Some of the other members
had other obligations, or got caught in
the thunderstorms that were over

at 2 pm. So I set out alone to Marshall, and enjoyed the cruise there
pretty much rain free. It tried to sprinkle on me a little on I 20 just before I
got to Marshall, but after that, it was
clear the rest of the day.

MCA NEWS
Our trip to the Grand National in Mustang, OK will
soon be upon us. Those who are going please send me
an e-mail or call me so we can get our plans formed up.
As it stands, we should be leaving around 7:00 - 7:30 on
Thursday morning before Labor day. Rusty says he has
a better way to go so we can avoid the traffic in Dallas.
If we go that route, then he will be the leader. Our goal
is just to have a good time meeting new friends and saying hello to those we've met before in our travels.
There have been some issues brought up about the
2013 show season. There is a new ruling about being
an MCA member in order to have your car judged. This
request was made by the judges and not those of other
areas. Also how the registration fees should reflect the
MCA member price. Example: $65 previous minus the
MCA discount of $10 then registration fee would be
$55. There is no standard registration fee for the clubs
hosting the event. The price is based on the cost being
charged for using a particular place, such as the Ford
Park for the Beaumont, TX show or the Grand National
show for 2013 at Disney World. These you would expect
to pay a little more than the average of $55 for these
venues.
For the 50th celebration there are still going to be two
different events. Unfortunately those who were on the
planning committee were not at the board of directors
meeting. Opinions were voiced but no answers were
given. I was told that there are going to be many Pony
Drives planned. We'll just have to see which one would
best suit our needs. Our group manages to have fun so
matter where we go.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Another month has gone by and now it is August. Big
changes and new plans are ahead for the club. Let’s get
started with the events for this month. We start off our
month with our club meeting that was on Saturday the
4th at Podnuh’s on Mansfield Rd at 5:00 pm and we will
be dining in with them this month. Our show committee
meeting is Sunday the 5th and the time is TBA. The Marshall cruise is on Saturday the 11th. If anyone is planning on going please sign up or email a board member.
If we decide to cruise as a group we will meet at the
Texas Welcome Center at 2:00. Our monthly board
meeting is Wednesday the 15th at 6:30 pm held at Reed
Industrial on Mt. Zion Rd. Breakfast and Fast Rides will
be the 3rd Saturday of the month on the 18th and a new
meeting spot is TBA from 8-10:00 am. Collier's Customs
monthly cruise night is also held the third Saturday of
the month from 6-8 pm on Youree Drive. Asbury Motor
Club will be hosting another cruise for a devotion and
dinner on Saturday the 25th. Meet to leave the church
at 3:00 pm. Make sure you have a full tank of gas.
Then the last event of the month is the MCA Grand National Show in Mustang Ok. Lots of the club members
are participating and hope you guys have lots of fun and
take lots of pics.
Now, let’s talk about our Annual Round up Show at
Wray Ford the third Saturday of September. We are
needing lots of door prizes and goody bag stuffers.
Please bring them to the show committee meeting or
next club meeting. Also, if you contact a board member
they will be glad to meet you and pick them up. Items do
not have to be car related. If you do a goody bag stuffer
you must have 100 of them. Also, sponsors are needed
for the show and club. You can become a complete
sponsor for only $200. We will be having breakfast the
morning of the show at 6 am. Then we will need volun-
teers starting at 7 am at Wray Ford. There you will be
getting your assignments for the day. I usually do the
shuttle driving but I am passing the torch this year. I
think I need to be around more to help Erin take care of
business.
Next we need to talk about the big change in the club.
We are moving our meeting spot and I am very excited
about this move. Starting in September we will be meeting at the Asbury Church on Airline Drive in Bossier City
next to Walgreens. We will be parking on the North side
of the church in the parking lot closest to Walgreens.
From there we will have ushers and signs to lead you to
our new home. We are very excited about our move and
the new opportunity to grow and attract new members
from a new area of town. We have been with Podnuh’s
for 10 years and we cannot thank them enough for their
hospitality, but it is time for a change. Also, I want to
give Dr. Ted Warren a ginormous thank you for helping
us find a new home for the club. He has been gracious
enough to be our spokesperson for the club with the
Church. Dr. Warren has been a sponsor and member of
our club for many years and a huge blessing to us. He
has helped us financially with Mustangs Across America
and now with our move. Thank you Dr. Warren and Lesa
for all you have done for the club.
Make sure to keep those ponies gassed up and ready
to go because the next few months are going to be busy.
Let's make this the best show ever and start registering
now. Early registrants are entered for a $100 drawing.

New Meeting Location September 2012
We are fortunate to have found a new meeting venue that
can accommodate so many of us. We desired a place to park our cars
on concrete that was in a safe neighborhood. This was a tall order
without meeting at the same restaurant monthly which required a
meal purchase. Asbury Methodist Church graciously accepted us on
our normal meeting day and time. We are thankful to them for keeping our RRCMC group going.
In return we want to show Asbury that we drive in a safe and
courteous manner. i.e. No burnouts or racing engines on their property. They are sharing part of their church with us and they may have
meetings or weddings happening at the same time as our meeting.
We can cruise (using club cruise etiquette) to any restaurant after the
meeting if desired and not hurt their feelings. If you want to race and
squeal the tires, please save it for our nights at Red River Raceway in
Gilliam.
The folks at Asbury Methodist Church are very nice, and if you
are looking for a church, I am sure they would welcome you to their
congregation. If you are not wanting to join but would like to make a
tax deductible contribution to AMC, I am sure they would appreciate
that also. Please mention you are a RRCMC member so they will
know who you are.
Spread the word on our new meeting location. Come to the
club meetings. We need every member’s input and help. Ask a friend
to join your club.

Road Trip
We picked up our red rental ride at LAX. After motoring the back way thru Santa Monica and into Malibu we
ate dinner at “Neptune’s Net”. This was the biker bar featured in the film “Point Break”. We crossed over the
Malibu mountains to spend the night in Westlake Village. After a late checkout we headed up the Interstate to
Salinas and then west to Carmel. The bed and breakfast had a $500 fine for smoking in the rooms. All I could figure was someone really teed them off. Our first day we spent walking around Carmel, visiting shops on cannery
row, the museums and talking to George Rodrigue at his studio there. There were sea lions and star fish everywhere. The star fish live are orange and some purple.
The second day we went over to the Steinbeck museum. I learned he had traveled around in his camper
truck with his dog most of his life. The museum was a don’t-miss if you are in Salinas. From there we went over to
Laguna Seca “Mazda” raceway. I’m not the best at following directions and we found ourselves on the actual track.
It was a weekday and no one was there. We drove the whole track, and the best way to try to describe it would be
like the s curve on the Fant Parkway coming from town. It drops 15 feet to go under the trestle. The corkscrew at
Laguna Seca drops over 100 feet. You can imagine at speed what a thrill this is. We went down to the Barber driving school which was closed on this particular day and my wife took some photos of me in front of the school.
Our third day we set out for Malibu going down the Pacific Coast Highway from Pebble Beach. The scenery
was awesome, but the drive at speed with a full tank of gas was what every gearhead lives for. We stopped half
way at the Hearst Castle and across from it was a national park totally full of sea lions. We took lots of photos but
kept our distance, as they were larger than us. There were lots of switchbacks, hills and curves on the road. There
was not much traffic, as most opted to take the Interstate from Salinas to L.A. We ended our trip with dinner at
Gladstone’s on the beach in Malibu.
