THE CATHOLIC MIRROR magazine is made available 8 times a year to more than 60,000 Catholic households. Through its pages it helps to inspire and inform us on our faith and how it is lived out daily. Every issue has something for everyone. And recent readership surveys show it is widely enjoyed and read by so many. But like all worthy efforts, we need your help to continue this publication. Please prayerfully consider a gift through your parish envelope, as part of the annual Catholic Mirror Parish Collection Drive. Your donation to the parish will provide this magazine to each and every household. As always, your support is greatly appreciated. TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME St. Thomas the Apostle School News Our preschool students had a great time celebrating Pope Francis’ visit to the United States. The children learned many things about this man of peace, such as where he lives, what he does for humanity, and especially what foods he likes to eat. With much delight, the children learned his Holiness loves pizza! So, what better way to celebrate this special event than with a pizza party appropriately named “Pizza with the Pope!” The children created their own miniature English muffin pizza and ended the celebration with a Pope Francis parade. A wonderful time was had by the children and teachers alike! If you wish to learn more about St. Thomas the Apostle School, please visit us at www.stthomasws.org. Thank you! ST. All are welcome! OCTOBER 4, 2015 Pope Francis in his encyclical The Joy of the Gospel continually raises the need for the Church to reach out to people—in a spirit of welcome, understanding and mercy. The Diocese of Springfield under the leadership of Bishop Rozanski has begun planning for an evangelization process designed to reach out to those who may be disenfranchised in some way, inviting them to Rediscover their Spiritual Roots. It is our hope that this process will encourage people to take a fresh look at our church and faith tradition. In order for us to plan an effective program we need to hear from you about your experiences with the church, the strengths you perceive and the areas which cause you difficulty or may need more attention. Please consider participating in and sharing with local family and friends in an on-line survey now available which will help us understand these issues. It is open through October 5 to all active and inactive Catholics, as well as non-Catholics who work and collaborate with our faith community. The survey can be accessed through diospringfield.org, observe.org and our own website: stthomaswestspringfield.org. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with us! 2015 ITALIAN KNIGHT DINNER honoring Italian Knight of the Year, Robert Mancini, on Saturday, October 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle School Gym.
