Jesus' words "This is my body" and "This cup is the new covenant in my blood" were only part of his table blessing. Jesus
twice said: "Do this in remembrance of me" (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25). This is the good news of today's solemnity. Like the five
thousand hungry souls, we are fed by our Lord. This is not food that satisfies for only a short time, until the next meal. It is
food that lasts and changes us. It is food for sharing in much the same way as Melchizedek did when he brought bread and
wine to the returning Abraham.As children of God's reign, we are blessed to be able to receive and share God's gift. And we do
so in the way most appropriate to our state in life--as parents, children, husbands, wives, or religious.
THE MOST HOLY BODY AND
BLOOD OF CHRIST
Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes
a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind
us of the central place of meals in our lives.
Each meal brings to mind other meals: the
sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer,
loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we
prepare a meal for our family, our friends,
even strangers, we always put something of
ourselves into the preparation and the meal
itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of
Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this
meal that we celebrate today. We share this sacred meal and are
transformed as we remember the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nurtures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our
work.
THE MAKINGS OF A LIFE Growing up, my family said grace before
each meal, recognizing that what nourished
us came from the work and sacrifice of other
hands, those who grew the crops and those
who prepared them for eating. We asked for
a blessing on the fruits of those who labored.
We recognized that even the simplest meal
comes from the bounty of God through the
sacrifice of Jesus. It is the blessing that
transforms each of these meals and the participants. The value of the nourishment, bodily or spiritual, is blessed, remembered, and
celebrated. Abram, Paul, and Jesus understood where our nourishment comes from. Our lives are nourished in body, mind,
and spirit by the sacrifice of others. Today, and with every
meal, we remember and bless the sacrifice of the Body and
Blood of Jesus Christ, who gave his all that we might be saved

THE MAKINGS OF A MEAL In Genesis, it is an intimate gathering. Melchizedek, both a
king and a priest, blesses Abram, a man chosen by God, using
the simple food and drink of ordinary meals. Abram's response
is to offer God a part, ten percent, of everything he has. In Corinthians, Paul remembers the gathering of friends and family,
the blessing of bread and wine at the meal the night before Jesus died. Jesus gave, not just part of everything he had, but all
he was: his Body and Blood. In Luke, the meal is large, unplanned, and most there are strangers. Jesus' response is simple,
"Feed them." The Apostles, overwhelmed by the number of
people and their scant resources, don't know what to do. But
Jesus, taking what is available, two loaves and five fishes, offers a blessing and there is more than enough.

JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY ‐ SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Lectionary's Year of Luke presents a Gospel in which Jesus, who has welcomed, taught, healed, and shown God's mercy to the multitude, refuses the Twelve's demand to dismiss the
crowd before him. Instead, he says, "Give them some food yourselves" (Luke 9:13). In Jesus' hands, what
little the Twelve has feeds five thousand ("men," and probably as many women and children), leaving twelve
baskets so the Twelve can continue Jesus' ministry of mercy. Pope Francis has asked how we celebrate and
live the Eucharist. Do we keep it to ourselves? Or do we "commune" not only with Jesus but with the multitude whom Jesus has
given us to cherish? Entrusted to Jesus and shared with others, our limited resources can go a long way. Recognizing Jesus in the
Eucharist demands that we recognize Jesus also in the hungry crowd. Adoring Jesus present in the Eucharist requires that we serve
Jesus present in our neighbor.

Estuve muerto y ahora, como ves, estoy vivo por
los siglos de los siglos.-- Apocalipsis 1:18a
Las palabras de Jesús "Esto es mi cuerpo" y " Este cáliz es la nueva alianza que se sella con mi sangre" fueron sólo parte de su consagración. Jesús dijo dos veces: "Hagan esto en memoria mía" (1 Corintios 11:24, 25). Esta es la buena nueva de la solemnidad de
hoy. Como las cinco mil almas hambrientas, somos alimentados por nuestro Señor. Este alimento no satisface sólo por un corto
período de tiempo, hasta la próxima comida. Es un alimento que dura y nos cambia. Es un alimento para compartir de la misma
forma que lo hizo Melquisedec cuando presentó pan y vino a Abram a su regreso. Como hijos del reino de Dios, tenemos la dicha
de poder recibir y compartir el regalo de Dios. Y lo hacemos de la manera más apropiada a nuestra circunstancia en la vida -como
padres, hijos, esposos, esposas o religiosos.

EL CUERPO Y LA SANGRE
DE CRISTO
Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad del Cuerpo
y Sangre de Cristo. Cada una de las lecturas
incluye una bendición y un repartir de alimentos. Recuerdan el lugar central de las
comidas en nuestras vidas. Cada comida
trae a la mente otras comidas: el intercambio de galletas y leche, pizza y cerveza,
panes y peces, pan y vino. Cuando preparamos una comida para nuestra familia, nuestros amigos, incluso desconocidos, siempre
ponemos algo de nosotros mismos en la
preparación y la comida misma. Esta solemnidad nos recuerda lo que Dios pone en la
preparación de esta comida que celebramos
hoy. Compartimos esta comida sagrada y somos transformados
recordar la muerte de Jesús y el sacrificio que nutre nuestra fe,
sostiene nuestras vidas y apoya nuestro trabajo.
LA PREPARACIÓN DE UNA COMIDA
En el libro de Génesis, hay una reunión intima; Melquisedec,
un rey y sacerdote, bendice a Abram, un hombre escogido por
Dios, usando lo ordinario de una comida, alimentos y bebida.
La respuesta de Abram es ofrecer a Dios una parte, el diez porciento de todo lo que tiene. En la carta a los corintios, Pablo
recuerda la reunión de los amigos y la familia, la bendición del
pan y el vino en la cena la noche antes de que Jesús muriera.
Jesús dio, no solamente una parte de todo lo que tenía, sino
todo lo que él era: su Cuerpo y su Sangre. En Lucas, la comida
es grande, improvisada y además hay personas extranjeras. La
respuesta de Jesús es sencilla, "denles de comer". Los apóstoles
abrumados por el número de personas y sus escasos recursos,
no saben que hacer. Pero Jesús, usando lo que está disponible,
dos panes y cinco pescados, ofrece una bendición y hay más
que suficiente.
LA PREPARACIÓN DE UNA VIDA
Conforme crecía, mi familia hacia una oración antes de comer,
reconociendo que lo que nos alimenta viene del trabajo y sacrificio de otras manos, aquellas que cultivaron los campos y que
los prepararon para que los comiéramos. Pedíamos una bendición por los frutos de quienes trabajaban. Reconocíamos que

AÑO JUBILAR DE LA MISERICORDIA ‐ SOLEMNIDAD DEL CUERPO Y LA SANGRE DE CRISTO
En este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia coincide con la lectura dominical del Evangelio de Lucas, este domingo
el Evangelio presenta a Jesús recibiendo, enseñando, sanando y mostrando la misericordia de Dios a la multitud
y, también rechazando la solicitud de los Doce de despedir a la multitud. Al contrario, él dice "denles ustedes de
comer" (Lucas 9:13). En las manos de Jesús, lo poco que tienen los Doce alimenta a cinco mil hombres (sin contar mujeres ni niños)
y lo con lo que sobró se llenaron doce canastos para que los Doce pudieran continuar el ministerio de misericordia de Jesús. El Papa
Francisco nos ha preguntado cómo nosotros podemos celebrar y vivir la Eucaristía. ¿Nos lo guardamos para nosotros mismos? ¿O
"comulgamos" no solo con Jesús sino con la multitud que Jesús nos da para apreciar? Confiados a Jesús y compartidos con otros,
nuestros recursos pueden durar mucho tiempo. Reconocer a Jesús en la Eucaristía exige que reconozcamos a Jesús en la multitud
hambrienta. Adorar a Jesús en la Eucaristía requiere que sirvamos a Jesús presente en nuestro prójimo.
