who are both in their teens, as
Diamond Jim Gonzales, 17, a resident of Block 47 2nd Gate, Mabalacat, Pampanga and Edmar
Mansi, 16, and resident of Barangay Pampang, Angeles City.
Both Gonzales and Mansi

they are minors.
Police investigation showed
that the two teens climbed over
the perimeter fence of the farm
of Lazatin at about 11 p.m. on
Sunday and took away the game
fowls.
Then the game fowls were
brought to Barangay Balibago
in Angeles City to be sold to four
other suspects identified as Loreto Ortizo, 32, of 657 Dau, Mabalacat; Rolando Macapagal, 27,
of Villa Teodora, Dau, Mabalacat; Cris Rosales, 25, of Ipil Ipil
St, Balibago, Angeles City; and

However the transaction between the two teenagers and
the other four suspects was witnessed by bantay bayan personnel Zaldy Salutin and George Suarez who intervened and learned
that the game fowls were stolen
from the farm of Lazatin.
Before the deal was done, all
six suspects were arrested and
subsequently brought to COMPAC 4, City of San Fernando Police Station for investigation and
proper disposition.
Gonzales and Mansi, as minors, were referred to the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD) of the City
of San Fernando to determine if
they acted with discernment in
the commission of the crime, police said. ●

Bounty hunters
The Pampanga police office has announced that they have dangled a sum of
P2.5 million as reward for anyone who could
provide information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects in the killing of a Dutch
national in the City of San Fernando early
this month.
The P2.5 million is divided by P500,000
each for the suspects in the killing, which
was considered by the police as a case of
robbery with homicide. The fund was raised
through the support of the business sector ,
who grew tired of the spate of robbery and
killings reported within the last three months.
Police said they already know the identities
of the criminals but they have not released
the names to the media pending arrests. And
they have decided to offer reward money for
the informants who could lead the police to
the suspects’ whereabouts.
Even in the old western civilization, bounty
hunting had been a way of life -- during the
time when people with guns slung on their
hips roamed the streets. The local folk had
their pistols, too. The police then needed
warm bodies to run after criminals because
they were outnumbered.
Sadly though is the realization that, in the
Philippines in these modern times, as if the
people would not work with the police in going after criminal elements without any prize
money involved. It is as if the bounty was
enough reason for the public’s love for peace
and order in the community to spring back
to life.
In a country where the police force’s ratio
is too small for the growing population, the
public eye is necessary to keep the streets
clean from nefarious activities. But, it should
not be given because there are monetary rewards. To be actively involved in peace and
order issues would ensure our children that
streets and communities are free from criminal elements.
Wouldn’t knowing our families are safe any
time of the day be enough for us to sleep well
at night and have peace of mind wherever
we are?
Nobody in his right mind would not love to
have a good night sleep and peace of mind.
And if offering a helping hand for the police to do their jobs effectively could give us
these, then what do we need the bounty for?
Besides, sleep and peace of mind are two
things that even tons of money cannot buy.

Inutile justice system
“Sad, indeed, that in this country many innocent people suffer many long years of jail
terms under erroneous accusations in crimes they have never had participation in”
Former Philippine president and
incumbent Pampanga Second District Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
has been granted bail by a trial court
judge over a case of electoral sabotage filed against her.
On Wednesday, Arroyo moved
out of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City where she
stayed under hospital arrest since
late last year to her home in La Vista subdivision also in Quezon City
shortly after posting a P1-million
bail. Her fellow accused, husband
Atty. Mike Arroyo and former Commission on Elections (Comelec)
chairman Banjamin Abalos were
earlier granted their respective bail
bonds for their temporary liberty.
In allowing GMA to post bail, the
Pasay City Regional Trial Court presided by Judge Jesus Mupas said evidence against the former president
were “weak.” The decision whether to
grant or not GMA’s petition for bond
came about eight months since the denial of the congresswoman’s liberty.
Instead of just accepting the
court decision and rejoicing over
this development, the Filipino people—whether pro or anti-GMA—felt
cheated by how slow the wheels of
justice in the country turn. For those
who believe that the former President did defraud the results of the
2010 elections, they may have been
thinking that GMA should have been
convicted for life at this time. For
those who believe otherwise, eight
months into imprisonment does not
bode well in upholding the adage
“unless proven otherwise, an accused is presumed innocent.”

Forty-six U.S. F-105 fighter-bombers attack the missile installation

of Hanoi. One missile launcher was
destroyed and another was damaged,

On July 24, U.S. bombers on a raid
over munitions manufacturing facilities at Kang Chi, 55 miles northwest of Hanoi, were fired at from an
unknown launching site. It was the
first time the enemy had launched
antiaircraft missiles at U.S. aircraft.
The presence of ground-to-air antiaircraft missiles represented a rap-

progressed, North Vietnam, supplied
by China and the Soviet Union, would
fashion a very effective and integrated air defense system, which became
a formidable challenge to American flyers conducting missions over

Pampanga bamboo initiative
“TRC is targeting to produce
26.4 million bamboo skewers and barbeque sticks
annually”
It’s been said that taking a risk is
the price you pay for opportunity.
And as we all know, even great
opportunities never come with
guarantees. There’s often as much
chance for winning as it is for losing and, at the end of the day, the
only question that would matter
is whether the risk would be all
worth it.
That said, I could certainly relate all too well right now plunging
for the very first time headfirst,
onto this potentially hazardous
craft of column writing. An uncharted territory for me, yes but
definitely worth sticking out my
neck for. Personal risks, however,
can be at best uncomfortable but
high-stakes institutional risks are,
at best, nerve-racking.
The Technology Resource Center (TRC) takes pride in its sense of
institutional mission as spelled out
in its corporate tagline “Creating
Opportunities”. Being a government corporation, this does mean
we routinely deal with financial
risks of one kind or another. And
nowhere is this more self-evident
than when we, by force of circumstance or good prospect, have to do
it alone on a project. This happens
to be the scheme with which we
have decided to pursue the Pampanga Bamboo Initiative.

Iglesia Ni Cristo’s 98th anniversary:
A celebration of God’s work in these last days
By Joel P. Mapiles
Inspired by the promises made by
God to his people in these last days,
the “Iglesia Ni Cristo has gone a long
way since its emergence in the Philippines 98 years ago.
Concurrent with the
beginning of World War
1, Brother Felix Ysagun
Manalo, the Church’s
last messenger, officially
registered the Church of
Christ with the Philippine
government on July 27,
1914.
For the members of
the Church, they firmly
believe that the year 1914
was not just a period in
the annals of man’s history but as the time for
the fulfilment of God’s
plan for the salvation of
man in these last days.
The year 1914 was the time when
Brother Felix started to preach the
words of God which resulted to the reemergence of the Church of Christ.
At first, he has succeeded in winning into the Church of Christ a
handful of faithful converts, then, he
began to form a small group of Church
followers. Despite the innumerable
odds and trying difficulties along the
way, Brother Felix bravely continued
his mission.
Before his demise in 1963, the Iglesia Ni Cristo was already a nationwide
organization and had congregation in
almost all provinces and major cities
of the country.
Brother Felix Manalo tirelessly fulfilled the divine mission of propagating the gospel and administering the
Church through almost half a century
of unselfish effort and dedication.
The church members will always
cherish in their hearts that Brother
Felix Manalo was the fulfilment of
God’s commissioning of a messenger
in these last days who preached the
true Gospel of calling people into the
landmarks, and even abroad, the unprecedented expansion of the Church
beyond Philippine shore, unhindered
by global economic downturn.
Church of Christ, the man’s chance
for salvation through the Lord Jesus
Christ.
They will never forget the spiritual
legacy that Brother Felix has left them
with—a legacy which will continue to
illuminate their path to salvation. He
is gone but his memory lives on.
With the election of Brother Eraño
G. Manalo, known to members as “Ka
Erdy,” to administer the Church as
Executive Minister upon the demise
of Brother Felix, the Church of Christ
has reached its glorious stature.
The Church under Ka Erdy remains
in God’s merciful hand and keeps on
receiving His grace and sovereign
guidance and this can be attested by
the continued success in its mission
and expansion.
The concrete proof of the success of
the Church under the supervision of
Ka Erdy was the unabated construction of magnificent houses of worship
that serve as the Philippines’ distinct
The Church has also made its presence in the West—believed to be the
fulfilment of biblical prophecies—in
1968 with the establishment of the
local congregations in Hawaii and
California.
In 1994, Ka Erdy has led the
establishment of local congregations of the Church of Christ in
Rome; in Jerusalem in 1996 and
in Greece in 1997.
For the Church, these remarkable accomplishments are works
of God through the dynamic
and inspired leadership of Ka
Erdy.
With the demise of Ka Erdy
on August 31, 2009, the brethren thanked the former Executive Minister for his hardship,
perseverance, unconditional
love and care for the Church in
its entirety.
The fulfilment of God’s
promise to his Church stays
with the dynamic stewardship
of Bro. Eduardo V. Manalo,
the Church’s new executive
minister.
Under Ka Eduardo’s
leadership, the Church has
achieved and is continuously
gaining spiritual triumph
such as the establishment of
the Ecclesiastical District of
South East Asia, ordination of 800
ministers of the Church and construction and dedication of 125 new
houses of worships.
At present, the Church has
spanned the globe, reaching 100
countries and territories in six continents, with a membership consisting
of 110 different nationalities.
However, with the phenomenal
progress of the Church, its administration has never been remiss in its
duty to exhort its members toward
spiritual maturity.

SHOWBIZ 11
Jennylyn Mercado
TV. Dito ay makakasama niya sina Regine Velasquez at
Roderick Paulate.
At take note, naisisingit pa niya ang
paggawa ng pelikula. She’s doing a movie
under Regal Films, ang The Bride and The
two years ago pa raw ang last movie niya
na Rosario.
Right now, katatapos lang ni Jen mag-pictorial

I send my greetings to all the brethren in the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo) in the

In Pampanga, the handful of faithful brethren in the Iglesia Ni Cristo began to form a
small group of Church followers in 1918. Subsequently in 1924, they have successfully
established the first district of the Church in Pampanga through the leadership of Brother Felix Manalo.

Mensahe

Your goals and objectives are very clear at this time . . . you know exactly what is needed and you
proceed, not only with
2self-confidence, but with3a clear7understanding of the material resources and
entailed hard work necessary to achieve them. If others are involved in your goals, you could accept
a leadership role; otherwise, you prefer to work alone. There could be some hard feelings from young
people, particularly if you become too aggressive. You could have difficulty getting outer recognition
for your efforts or accomplishments. This does not mean they are worthless--it does mean you should
throw your efforts into work or venture(s) you really love doing and not because someone says you
should. Take a little trip, or get outside this afternoon.

GEMINI (MAY 21-JUN 21)
Harsh feelings could flare up on the job or with authority figures. Let this event pass . . . not all is what it
seems. You may feel left out or passed over just now: a blessing. Your own requirements may separate
you from where the rest of the gang is headed. This is of short duration. Ideas and thoughts will have
greater meaning and form at this time. You may be very eloquent or forceful in speaking or communicating--careful. People will understand just what you mean. Be wise this evening as you seek to meet
the expectations of family . . . give feedback on what you understand it is they want and you will find
no misunderstanding. Someone has a bit of fantasy into a viewpoint and this feedback will help them
see a different view.
CANCER (JUN 22- JUL 22)
Your ability to discriminate real breakthroughs and to spot new trends makes you able to work at the
very fringe of technology. Electronics, computers, communications and everything electrical, are exactly
where your interests are centered. You may discover new ways of working with traditional materials.
Creating a new cleaner or cloth that has cleaner on the cloth already or perhaps a new shape of cook
pan that allows the cook to cook up to three things at once. Your relationships, partnerships and loved
ones are now very up-close and ever-so-personal. In fact, they are capable of transforming you at the
most basic level. This is a time of real inner growth through other people. A social event promotes some
networking this evening.
LEO (JUL 23 - AUG. 23)
This could be a frustrating day regarding job-related activities. Your ideas may be presented to higherups and if rejected, you realize that this was just the introduction . . . the next presentation will be more
successful. You will find that you are appreciated or valued for your ability to rise above most difficulties.
You quickly turn your concentration toward an adjusted project or something new. Persistent, intense
and serious, you get to the root of most situations. Your psychological insight into life problems may find
you receiving phone calls from friends and family at odd times of the day or night. You will find yourself
aiding or counseling others. You can be fiercely persistent. You make a positive difference in many
people’s lives every day.
LIBRA (SEP. 23 - OCT. 23)
Good feelings are in the air. This is an excellent time to sway people to your cause--through speeches
or clever arguments--your thinking is most logical. Be explicit in all the things you do and say; words are
easily misunderstood, particularly today. You may daydream about an excellent opportunity for financial
success. Be ready to take on a new project at the least expected moment. Change is all about improvements and rewards. Your good works will be rewarded. This afternoon it would be wise to have complete
information before gambling with an investment. Your desire to be surrounded by beauty is strong and
this may spur you into thoughts of redecorating your home. Your goodwill is felt by others and will be
reflected back onto you.
SCORPIO (OCT. 24- NOV. 21)
Public relations, public speaking or sales is an option today. Even if you are not changing jobs, you may
find yourself in one or more of these categories. The word here is accomplishment. If there is a job, you
can do it. An extraordinary worker, you pour yourself into any task with absolute purpose. You would
make a good teacher of others in matters of organization, practical competence, etc. You have a great
desire and drive to be thorough and responsible down to the smallest details. This may find you working
late into the night. Music is likely to play an important role for you--perhaps an urge to spend money on
adding to your music collection or tickets to a concert. Close relationships take on emotional depth now.
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22 - DEC. 21)
You enjoy mental effort, discipline and you work long and hard at whatever you want to accomplish.
You could find yourself lecturing or teaching. Being successful in life is easy--you have a built-in sense
of how to approach and unravel even the most difficult problems. You have an instinct for justice and the
law and you always know how to approach a problem from just the right angle. This ability makes you
a natural guide for others. You may find yourself working with and helping older people this afternoon-perhaps in a volunteer situation. Let yourself dream this evening--do not ignore this opportunity to let
your imagination loose. Perhaps a good book or movie will take on that more-than-real dimension.
CAPRICORN (DEC. 22 - JAN 19)
You are probably feeling rather self-indulgent now--you may not get any real work done today. The work
you do, the way you take care of health and other obligations are important keys to your best potential.
There is a need for focus and careful analysis in these areas of your life. Set up systems and schedules and stick to them! Watch your spending habits a little more carefully at this time--you will want to
overspend. You may be encouraged to purchase an overpriced item simply because you are in a hurry,
or it is convenient. In addition, you have a tendency to give in rather than fight against the flow. Do not
conclude any contractual obligations under this planetary energy, as you may not be satisfied with the
results later--a few more days.
AQUARIUS (JAN. 20 - FEB. 18)
This is the perfect time for the lighter side of life. The heavy stuff can wait, although, if you have to make
a business or a financial transaction today, go for it. You, however, would rather write a poem, take a
drive in the country or express your love to someone. Never fear! No one will laugh. Being more in
touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do
with feelings, but it is more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At
some level, this means a greater focus on family life--parents, children, relatives and the whole domestic
scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you are likely to find that houses and other real property take on
greater significance for you.
PISCES (FEB. 19 - MAR. 20)
You are able to quickly come up with what is needed today . . . this may mean you are very educated
or your life experiences are varied. You certainly do not come across as pompous. You are not alone
in the effort to solve problems and move forward. Expect a sense of support and good will from those
around you. It is natural for you to put your practical and managerial abilities to work. You can make a
career out of your keen organizational skills and clear insight into how things work. The accent today
is on sociability. This should be one of those nice days when everything goes well. Today is great for
business transactions as well as social functions. Tonight is the perfect time to go to a concert, take a
drive, start a vacation or express your love.

GARBAGE from Page 1
The governor bared this
plan during yesterday’s turnover ceremony for the garbage
truck donated by the provincial government to this city at
the Heroes Hall here.
The governor said the
provincial government is
conducting a study for the
creation of an ordinance mandating every residence to pay
for their dues for the collection
of the garbage they generate.
Also included in the planned
ordinance is a provision requiring residents to conducts
waste segregation at source.
Pineda bared that the provincial government would pay
at least P1 billion per annum
as tipping fee to the Kalangitan Landfill in Capas, Tarlac
just to dump garbage from
Pampanga towns.
Pineda said local governments face a dilemma in the
disposal of solid wastes in private landfills due to budgetary
constraints.
She furthered that if the
provincial government will
pay for that tipping fee, other
budget intended for the different programs will be sacrificed.
But with the privatization
of garbage collection, every
household will become responsible in their waste segregation.
BATAAN RESORT from Page 3
“Kung hindi natin ipaprivatize ang garbage collection mauubos ang pondo ng
provincial government at masa-sacrifice ang ibang pondo
para sa iba nating programa
para sa mga Kabalen natin.
Kaya pinag-aaralan namin
ngayon, kasama ng ating mga
provincial board members,
ang pagpasa ng isang ordinansa para dito,” Pineda said.
Okay with Oca
Mayor Oscar “Oca” Rodriguez, for his part, favored
Pineda’s plan saying that the
city government will support
the governor’s thrust to effectively solve the garbage problem.
Rodriguez said that the city
government will implement
such an ordinance once it is
approved.
“I salute Gov. Pineda on
her political will in solving the
growing problem on garbage.
Rest assured that the city government is one in supporting
the provincial government’s
programs for the Kapampangans,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez also thanked
the governor for the garbage
truck, which will be of “great
help” to address the garbage
woes in the city.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa
ating mahal na gobernador
sa pagbibigay niya sa amin ng
garbage truck dahil malaking
tulong ito sa siyudad sa aming
adhikain na malinis namin
ang San Fernando sa basura,”
he added.
For now, the city is implementing strict policies in the
segregation of garbage.
Rodriguez said without
their partnership with Spectrum Bluesteel Corporation,
the city government would
spend about P110 million per
year for proper garbage disposal.
Inter-regional approach
Earlier, Pineda signified
plan to invite the governors of
Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bataan,
Bulacan, Tarlac and Zambales
to push for the creation of a
regional landfill at the most
convenient area in the region.
According to Pineda, a
landfill owned by the government serving seven provinces
will drastically cut the tipping
fee, which will solve the garbage problem in the region
and, hopefully, avoid floods
during the rainy season.
Last month, Pineda met
with the junkshop owners—
who are at the forefront of
waste segregation—to make
an appeal for them to help in
solving the province’s problem
on garbage. ●

pampangans were happy over Arroyo’s temporary release.
“As Kapampangans, we are happy that she is
given that opportunity to get out of that what we
call prison life,” Rodriguez said.
Arroyo was released Wednesday, a day after
President Benigno Aquino III’s third state of the
nation address (SONA).
After seven months, she was discharged from
the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC)
following the decision of Pasay City Regional
Trial Court (RTC) Branch 112 granting the former president to post bail.
Arroyo, who is facing an electoral sabotage case, posted a P1-million bail and headed
straight to their house at La Vista Subdivision,
Quezon City.
An electoral sabotage case is supposedly a
non-bailable case.
Arroyo’s arrest on December 2011 has saddened majority of folks in Pampanga.
Governor Pineda, a close ally of the Arroyos,
said she has already talked to Congresswoman
Arroyo over the phone.
Right decision
Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan
said RTC 112 Judge Jesus Mupas “did the right
thing.”
“Posting bail, if the evidence, oral and testimonial are—to the judicious study of the judge—
weak, is a matter of right and not a privilege and
the judge did the right thing. The law should and
must apply to all or none at all,” Pamintuan said.
Pamintuan, a lawyer by profession, said Arroyo was treated like an ordinary person when
she was arrested “so she is entitled to the rights
also of an ordinary individual.”
In a statement, the Pambansang Lakas ng
Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said Arroyo’s release is a manifestation
that the Aquino administration is ready to “forgive and forget” the former president’s crimes
against the people. ●

development of CIA to be the
next premier airport in the
country and has allotted a total of P12 billion for it. About
P1 billion of these funds were
released in advance to start
the construction of a new terminal.
Lourdes “Deedee” Siytangco, a close friend of the Aquino
family, told Cruz that the president has instructed Roxas to
develop Clark’s airport.
“Siytangco said CIA’s development is a done deal and that
the president already had instructions about it,” Cruz said.
“If there were no developments made to the CIA yet, the
advance budget must be intact
and they should show that to
the public,” Cruz said.
Cruz, who has supported
the expansion and development of CIA since the 1990s,
said Roxas should disprove reports that he was promised of
campaign funds for 2016 and
that these funds will be taken
from CIA’s allotted budget.
“We don’t want another
Expo scam,” Cruz said.
During the 1998 elections,
it was discovered that millions
of funds for the construction
of the Clark Centennial Expo
were used as campaign funds
of some politicians that made
expo’s construction inefficient.
Cruz said if the airport in
Pampanga will not be developed, the national government will deprive local folks of
investors and tourists. ●

For the economy, Pamintuan said there were
no tax increases in the city despite their budget
cut from the national government. He said his
administration implemented efficient tax collection instead.
Aside from these projects, Pamintuan said he
will lead the construction of a public cemetery,
improvement of housing projects and the promotion of tourism, among others.
“If 84 percent is done, it means I still have
to work on the remaining 16 percent. I believe,
with your support, I can surpass it,” Pamintuan
said. ●
VOLUME I • NO. 17 • JULY 27-29, 2012 • FRIDAY - SUNDAY
MESSAGE
I send my heartfelt congratulations to all the brethren in the Iglesia Ni Cristo on the occasion
of its 98th founding anniversary.
With the phenomenal progress of the Church in the Philippines and the whole world,
its Church administration has never been remiss in its duty to exhort its members toward
spiritual maturity.
Most of the lessons preached twice a week by ministers and evangelical workers to all Church
local congregations in the whole world address a wide variety of issues and concerns such as
family, brotherhood, righteous living, salvation, sin and youth, among others.
These enable the members to overcome obstacles on their sojourn toward the Holy City.
The Church administration is continuously admonishing the brethren and the officers to lead and live
righteous lives, to remain obedient to God’s will, steadfast in faith and love the brotherhood for them not to
lose the opportunity to receive God’s grace of salvation.
All the success of the Iglesia Ni Cristo in its
wide variety of undertakings are attributed
as the works of the mighty hands of God.
The Church officers and members have
all the reasons to thank, praise and
celebrate the 98 years of God’s work.
