Pastor Ron and Dee
Dear Family & Friends,
Welcome to worship at Kaimuki Christian! This is a special weekend. In our
services, we will celebrate David & Marsha Van Wagenen’s 30 years of faithful
missionary service! Commissioned and sent out in 1984 by Kaimuki Christian
Church under the ministry of Christian Missionary Fellowship, the Lord has used
them in Kenya, Eritrea and Ethiopia to support missionaries in those fields, and to
reach and disciple indigenous leaders who will carry on the work of Christ.
Dee and I met David Van Wagenen and Marsha Lambert at a Sunday evening
home fellowship just after we’d moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to enter the
ministry back in 1974. Marsha was leading worship with beautiful Maranatha
songs. We came to deeply appreciate this couple, sharing in the celebration of
their marriage. They moved to Honolulu in 1976, as David was an Assistant
Manager for Western Airlines, and became members of Kaimuki Christian
Church. When KCC was looking for an Associate Pastor, David & Marsha spoke
to Pastor Gallagher and the church reached out to us. We came in 1979 to find
KCC to be all it was reported to be.
David became the Chair of our Missions Committee and, in that capacity, a
couple of things happened. They developed a heart for the world and began giving sacrificially toward missions. (Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also.”) Recognizing his administrative gifts and abilities, David was
invited onto the board of Christian Missionary Fellowship, an organization that
recruits, trains, sends and supports missionary teams in partnership with local
churches like ours. In 1984, CMF asked the Van Wagenens to go to Kenya to
support the missionaries attending to burgeoning work among the nomadic Masai
and Turkana tribal people groups.
KCC blessed and sent them out and they branched out into various fruitful
ministries in Africa. Now, 30 years later, they’ve “retired” and returned to the
states to serve in whatever area they sense the Lord is leading them.
Since their arrival on the Islands in January, they have already begun to serve in
our International Ministry and are planning to lead a seminar, which will help
people to discover the calling God has on their lives. We’re grateful to God for
David & Marsha, celebrating the wonderful partnership we’ve enjoyed through
the years!
Grace to you,

Be considerate of others, but don’t hold back out of fear of what someone
