Reading Seed Puts Books In to the Hearts of Our Students Reading Seed is a valuable resource for the Native American Studies Department and the com‐
munity. Reading Seed offers gently used books to Academic Coaches and educators to give to their students ranging from beginning readers to High School. Students may select up to two books per week. Students at Cavett, Wright, Fort Lowell/Townsend, Alice Vail and Dodge have been selecting books and are showing a growing interest in the many types of books that are offered from Non‐fiction to Fiction. We have given out more than 400 books so far this year. Reading Seed provides a wealth of resources to strive for the goal of every child in Pima County reading above level by grade three. Their outreach program includes a lending library for reading coaches and educators filled with books that match students’ interests with their reading abilities. Reading Seed gave away over 18,000 books last year. They strive to put books in the hands of children and adults who would not other‐
wise have books in their homes. It has been so much fun watching the students evolving sense of what they really enjoy reading and becoming increasingly passionate about books. 15
