We had 71 people at the last meeting. We don't know if its the food and camaraderie at the meet
and greet or what! Next meeting we will have taco's, nacho's and whatever else, come and enjoy.
At the meeting we sold chances on a book of bike raffle tickets. New member Brian Forrester won
the 10 chances. Come to the meeting and try your luck.
As chapter President I was very proud of the good turn out for the Easter Basket Run.
The newsletter has got a lot of new ads recently. Show these sponsors we appreciate this support.

Thank you, Pam & Charlie
by George Tinkham
It really makes you feel like you are part of a ―Brotherhood‖ when you see fellow
A.B.A.T.E. members selflessly come to the aid of a fallen biker. When former Lincoln Land president Larry Luparell was hospitalized after a stroke, we needed witnesses for legal papers Larry needed to sign. A phone call to Charlie & Pam Wiezorek was all that was needed for them to cut short their ride and to come to the hospital where they were needed.
It did not matter that Pam & Charlie had never met Larry – or that they were enjoying
a great ride on a beautiful day. What mattered was that their help was needed. They
really came through when it counted. Larry had his witnesses, and the day was even
more beautiful.
Thank you, Charlie & Pam. You make me feel part of a biker family.

VFW on Saturday, April 30th 2016.
The party starts at 3pm and will run till midnight. We have two good bands playing, Texas Trucker
Speed Fiends and Jukebox Casanova. THANK YOU TO PACMAN FOR MAKING THE BAND

I would like to thank all the brothers and sisters that came to the Easter Basket
Run, what a great turn out.
We are going to have at least 2 Fun Run's a month, starting with the first one on May 1st. As you
know this is the date of the Awareness Rally. After the run to the Capital, we will be ridding to the
Long Branch in Athens, for some food and fun. This is a great way to show how much we appreciate our sponsor's. Come and be apart of this run,to help us say Thank You.
I will talk to you about future Fun Run's at the next members meeting. Until then brother's and sisters. RIDE SAFE

Hi everyone,
I just want to remind everyone to mark your calendar and come out to
IDOT on Sunday May 1st for the Awareness Ride to the Capitol.
This is a good time for everyone to come out and show your support for A.B.A.T.E. and
motorcyclist’s rights. It’s also important to show the politicians at the Capitol that we
are a force to be reckoned with!!
See you all there!

PLEASE HELP YOUR MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR!
I will have sign-up sheets at the meetings for the upcoming Bike Nights at several locations around
Springfield and surrounding communities. Unfortunately I WILL NOT be able to attend every one of these events.
Lincoln Land Chapter needs an ABATE presence at every one of these locations. That was part of our success last
year and we want to continue that success again this year.

The Power of People
April 2016 Legislative Update
Josh “SKI” Witkowski Legislative Coordinator
[email protected]
Sam McCann won his Primary battle in the 50th Senate District. He won because of people like you. Sam faced a
new state record in campaign spending, millions of dollars spent, against him. Thanks to the activity of ABATE, along with other grassroots groups, were able to stand beside Senator McCann and help him hold on to his seat. His race showed the triumph of people over money. It showed that grassroots groups can overcome millions of dollars in opposition.
I want to thank each and everyone of you that walked precincts, took campaign signs, and made phone calls on
behalf of Senator McCann. The ability of ABATE to stand beside those who have stood for us is very respected in
the state house and allows us to further our issues in the State. The senator stopped by our March monthly meeting
to thank ABATE for our support during his campaign.
With the election over, we now have to turn our attention to the state house, where we have several bills that we are
supporting and opposing. Please take the time to review these bills at ILGA.gov and contact your legislators. You
can find out who your representatives are at:
www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/DistrictOfficialSearchByAddress.aspx
Bills in the HOUSE
HB6151 VEH CD_DATA RECORDING DEVICES - ABATE SUPPORTS This bill protects information gathered by
vehicle data recorders. It provides that you own the information and it cannot be used against you without your
consent. The Illinois Trial Lawyers are against us on this bill, it will take serious effort to get it through. This mirrors a
bill that we have pending in Congress.
HB5987 OFFHWY VEHICLE USAGE STAMPS - ABATE OPPOSED This bill would put an end to the State Off
Road park that ABATE has been working toward with Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
HB6281 VEH CD2 YEAR REGISTRATION - ABATE OPPOSED -The Secretary of State and Illinois State Police
are also opposed to this bill. It would increase all registration fees on vehicles and make them a 2 year registration
instead of single year. It increases your financial burden per year, then doubles that increase by making you pay for
2 years at once.
Bills in the SENATE
HB4105 VEC CDBLUE DOT TAIL LIGHTS - ABATE SUPPORTS This bill allows for the blue dot style taillights. It
has passed the House, and a Senate committee with no opposition. ABATE expects this bill to pass the Senate soon on its way
to becoming law. Please call your Senator and encourage them to vote for it, and sponsor it.
SB2841 ATV REGULATION AND SAFETY - ABATE OPPOSED & ACTION STRONGLY URGED This bill does
the following things; stops our Harrisburg Off Road Park, requires state approved training for anyone under 18 riding on
state land, requires helmets for everyone riding on state land in addition to other equipment on the ATV, also prohibits dual
riders on ATVs if the ATV is not built specifically for dual riders. This bill acts as a back door for a
helmet law and would stop a lot of families from enjoying ATVs on public land.
As always if you have any questions about the legislators we are supporting, or the issues we are working on feel
free to email or call me. I look forward to seeing many of you at the next chapter meeting Thursday April 21st at 7
p.m. at the VFW on stockyard road. Until then, keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up SKI
