MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope that your October has been pleasant at your home and
place of work. Mine has been good. October started off with the
Terry Fox Run, which was to have been on September 30th, but a
bolt of lightning changed that. $1105.00 was raised by Waskada
students for the Terry Fox Run and a good time was had by all as
we walked through the town to the golf course and then back to
the school. The snacks afterwards were a great way to end the
day.
The Turkey dinner the day before the long weekend was a great
success as well. Everyone remembered to bring their supplies, and
a great feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and of
course yummy desserts was had by the staff and students at
Waskada School. A lot of thanks need to be extended to Mrs. May
and her parent volunteers, as well as the students of Waskada
School for helping in the preparation of the food, set up of the
lunch room, and clean up.

The social justice group in Waskada School is excited about heading to WE Day in Winnipeg on
Nov.15 &16, where they will volunteer their time helping others less fortunate before participating in
the big event at the MTS Centre. Locally, the social Justice group has been collecting food for
donationsfor “Scare Away Hunger”. For every non- perishable food item they bring, students are
allowed to wear their hat for the day. This has been going on since the middle of October, and
quite an impressive pile of food has been collected.

The Social Justice Committee will be attending We Day next month in
Winnipeg. This is a chance for our students to learn how to better
support our school, community and help others on a global basis. We
have already begun our first campaign of the year, “We Scare
Hunger.” Throughout the month of October the committee has put
on activities to help raise awareness for hunger and collect nonperishable food items for a local food bank in our area.
