John falls in love with Algernon's cousin Gwendolen, and, after discovering John's secret, Algernon falls for John's ward Cecily. The two gentlemen and ladies are in for more than they ever anticipated when the formidable Lady Bracknell, Gwendolen's mother, begins digging around to uncover the truth. Full of wit and charm, Oscar Wilde's comedic masterpiece is a "trivial comedy for serious people." Wilde's Victorian comedy of manners is widely considered to be one of the greatest plays ever written. We believe it will work very well outdoors and it has not been staged at the community theatre level in this area for several years. It has Great title recognition. The Secret Garden Adapted by Pamela Stirling Based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett July 21 – August 6, 2016 This beloved story about the growth and blossoming of the earth and the human spirit is a garden of delight for the imagination. Mary and Colin, whose natures have been badly warped, thrive with the discovery that selflessness opens a secret door to happiness. They are encouraged by the warmhearted Yorkshire maid, Martha, and her brother, Dickon, who understands the language of birds, animals and flowers; the crusty gardener, Ben Weatherstaff; and, of course, the robin who leads Mary to the garden that changes her life. The Secret Garden is an extremely well-known book. We believe this to be a fine choice for the outdoors that can be marketed to the entire family. The play has a great message and theme of the need for human companionship. This adaptation is a play, and not a musical version. The Odd Couple By Neil Simon August 25 – September 10, 2016 Neil Simon's classic comedy opens with a group of the guys assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as THE ODD COUPLE is born. This is one of the best plays by the 20th century's most successful playwright. We will be staging the original male version of the show, which hasn't been performed in this area for awhile (the female version of the play has). We cannot ask for better title recognition.
