Herstellungsverfahren
Das ätherische Spiklavendelöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation der getrockneten Blätter und
Blütenstände des Spiklavendels (Lavandula latifolia) gewonnen. Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als
Trägerstoff für die leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten der Pflanzenteile. Durch die NichtMischbarkeit der organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles und des Wassers findet beim
Abkühlen eine spontane Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden
kann. Die Ausbeute beträgt etwa 0.5 bis 1.0%.[1,2]
Manufacturing method
The essential spike lavender oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the dried leaves and inflorescences of
spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of
the plant parts. Due to the non miscibility of the organic compounds with water, the phases readily separate
upon cooling and the essential oil can be easily separated. The yield is between 0.5 and 1.0%.[1,2]
Botanischer Ursprung des ätherischen Spiklavendelöls
Die Art Spiklavendel (Lavandula latifolia) gehört zur Gattung
Lavendel (Lavandula, Unterfamilie: Nepetoideae) in der Familie
der Lippenblütler (Lamiaceae), welche zur Ordnung der
Lippenblütlerartigen (Lamiales) zählt. Der Spiklavendel ist
auch als Breitblättriger Lavendel, Großer Speik, Spanischer
Lavendel oder Gewürz Lavendel bekannt. Der Spiklavendel
stammt ursprünglich aus dem gesamten Mittelmeerraum und
wird heutzutage vor allem in Spanien und Frankreich
kultiviert. Der Spiklavendel wächst als immergrüner Strauch
und erreicht Wuchshöhen von bis zu 80 cm. Die gegenständig
stehenden Blätter sind länglich bis schmal elliptisch, zwischen
2 und 5 cm lang und ca. 2 bis 9 mm breit. Der Rand ist leicht
umgerollt. Junge Blätter sind dicht mit weißem Filz besetzt,

erscheinen
mit
grau-grünem
Filz.
Die
Blütenstände sind sehr lang gestielt und tragen bis zu 8 Scheinquirle, in denen 6 bis 10 violette Blüten
stehen. Die Blütezeit ist zwischen Juni und September.[3]

Botanical origin of essential spike lavender oil
The species spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) belongs to the genus lavander (Lavandula, subfamily:
Nepetoideae) in the mint family (Lamiaceae), which is in the order of Lamiales. The spike lavander is also known
as the Broad-leaved lavender, Spanish lavender or lavender spice. The spike lavander originally came from all
over the Mediterranean and is now cultivated mainly in Spain and France. The spike lavander grows as an
evergreen shrub, reaching heights of growth of up to 80 cm. The opposite leaves are oblong to elliptic, 2 to 5 cm
long and 2 to 9 mm wide. The edge is slightly rolled over. Young leaves are densely covered with white felt, older
leaves appear with gray-green felt. The inflorescences are stalked very long and can carry up to 8 false whorls,
which have between 6 and 10 violet flowers. The flowering period is from June to September.[3]
Charakterisierung
Das ätherische Spiklavendelöl ist eine leicht bewegliche, farblose, manchmal gelblich-grüne
Flüssigkeit. Es hat einen starken, charakteristischen Lavendel-Duft mit deutlichen Kampfernoten. Das
ätherische Öl löst sich gut in Alkohol (1:3, Ethanol 70%), Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen.
Es ist nahezu unlöslich in Wasser. Hauptbestandteile von ätherischem Spiklavendelöl sind Linalool,
Kampfer und 1,8-Cineol. In geringeren Konzentration ist auch Limonen enthalten.[2]
Characterisation
The essential spike lavender oil is an easily movable, colorless to sometimes even yellowish-green colored
liquid. It has a strong characteristic lavender scent with camphor notes. The essential oil is good soluble in
alcohol (1:3, ethanol 70%), vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Main
components of essential spike lavender oil are linalool, camphor and 1,8-cineole. In lower concentration,
limonene is included as well.[2]
Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie
Die Inhaltsstoffe des ätherischen Spiklavendelöls besitzen eine Reihe von gesundheitlich relevanten
Eigenschaften. Aufgrund des Gehaltes an 1,8-Cineol und Kampfer eignet sich ätherisches
Spiklavendelöl
sehr
gut
zur
Behandlung
von
Erkältungskrankheiten.
Es
besitzt
starke
antimikrobielle, bakterizide, fungizide und viruzide Wirkungen und kann bei entsprechenden
Infektionen als Ölbad oder Einreibung angewandt werden. Gleichzeitig wirkt ätherisches
Spiklavendelöl stark schleimlösend (mukolytisch) und kann bei Rhinitis, Pharyngitis und Bronchitis
als Einreibung, Wickel, Ölbad oder zur Inhalation genutzt werden. Bei Verbrennungen und anderen
Verletzungen der Haut wirkt ätherisches Spiklavendelöl hautregenerierend und kann direkt auf die

betroffenen Stellen aufgetragen werden. Zusätzlich wirkt ätherisches Spiklavendelöl auch
entzündungshemmend und kann daher bei allgemeinem Juckreiz (Pruritus), Otitis und Neuritis als
Auflage, Wickel oder Ölbad eingesetzt werden.[4,5]
Grundmischung zu Inhalation:
5 Tr. Spiklavendelöl
10 Tr. Eukalyptusöl radiata
10 Tr. Ravensaraöl
Zur Inhalation werden 1 bis 2 Tropfen in den Inhalator gegeben.
Medical use, phytotherapy
The compounds of essential spike lavender oil have a number of health-related properties. Due to the content of
1,8-cineole and camphor essential spike lavender oil is very well suited for the treatment of colds. It has strong
antimicrobial, bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal effects and can be applied to corresponding infections as
either an oil bath or ointment. Simultaneously, essential spike lavender oil is a strong expectorant
(mucolytically effect) and can be used in rhinitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis for inhalation, as an ointment,
packing, or oil bath. In skin burns and other injuries essential spike lavender oil has a skin regenerating effect
and can be applied directly to the affected area. In addition, essential spike lavender oil has also antiinflammatory properties and can be used with general itching (pruritus), otitis and neuritis as a pad, packing or
oil bath.[4,5]
Oil mixture for inhalation:
5 dr. spike lavender oil
10 dr. eucalyptus oil radiata
10 dr. ravensara oil
For inhalation, 1 to 2 drops are placed in the inhaler.
Aromatherapie
Ätherisches Spiklavendelöl wird in der Aromatherapie zur Stärkung der Nerven genutzt. Es besitzt
eine starke neurotonische Wirkung und kann bei allgemeiner Angst, Schlaflosigkeit und
Erschöpfungszuständen eingesetzt werden. Bevorzugte Anwendungsmöglichkeiten für ätherisches
Spiklavendelöl sind das Ölbad, die Duftlampe und die Verwendung als Massageöl. Zusätzlich wirkt
das Öl innerlich wärmend auf den Organismus.[4,5]

Essential spike lavender oil is used in aromatherapy to strengthen the nerves. It has a strong neurotonic effect
and can be used with general anxiety, insomnia and exhaustion. Preferred uses for essential spike lavender oil
are the oil bath, the fragrance lamp and use as a massage oil. In addition, the oil is warm inside the organism.[4,5]

Verwendung in der Küche
Ätherisches Spiklavendelöl wird im Allgemeinen nicht zur Zubereitung von Speisen und Getränken
verwendet. Die jungen Blätter und Blüten der Pflanze werden in der mediterranen Küche zum
Würzen von Fleisch, Fischgerichten und Süßspeisen eingesetzt.[2]
Use in kitchen
Essential spike lavender oil is not generally used in the preparation of food and drink. The young leaves and
flowers of the plant are used in Mediterranean cooking to flavor meat or fish dishes and desserts.[2]
Anwendung in der Kosmetik
In der Kosmetik wird das ätherische Spiklavendelöl vor allem zur Herstellung von Eau de Colognes
(Lavendelwasser), Rasierwasser, Badezusätzen und als Seifenduft eingesetzt. Es ist zudem in vielen
weiteren Kosmetikartikeln enthalten. Ätherisches Spiklavendelöl eignet sich sehr gut für Mischungen
mit Eukalyptus, Grapefruit, Kiefernadel, Nelke, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rosenholz, Rosmarin, Salbei,
Zedernholz und Zitrone.[2,4]
Use in Cosmetic
In cosmetics, essential spike lavender oil is mainly used for the production of colognes (lavender water),
aftershave lotions, bath salts and as a soap fragrance and for many other cosmetic products. Essential spike
lavender oil is very suitable for mixtures with eucalyptus, grapefruit, pine needle, clove, patchouli, petitgrain,
rose wood, rosemary, sage, cedar and lemon.[2,4]
Anwendungs- und Warnhinweise, Nebenwirkungen
Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Spiklavendelöl sind als gesundheitlich bedenklich
einzustufen. 1,8-Cineol kann bei dermaler Anwendung bei empfindlichen Personen zu Hautreizungen
und Ekzemen führen, bei oraler Aufnahme sind eine Gastroenteritis und Nierenreizung möglich.
Linalool und Limonen haben ein allergenes Potential. Ätherisches Spiklavendelöl eignet sich nicht
für die innere Anwendung bei Schwangeren, Säuglingen und Kleinkindern. Beachten Sie auch die

Application and warning notes, side effects
Some of the compounds of essential spike lavender oil are categorized as harmful to health. When applied
dermal, 1,8-cineole can lead to skin irritation and eczema in susceptible individuals, when taken orally a
gastroenteritis and kidney irritation are possible. Linalool and limonene have an allergenic potential. Essential
spike lavender oil is not suitable for internal use in pregnant women, infants and young children. Also note
the references in the material safety data sheet and the product specification.[2,4]

Linalool and natural products known to be rich in linalool
should only be used when the level of peroxides is kept to
the lowest practical level. It is recommended to add
antioxidants at the time of production of the raw material.
The addition of 0.1% BHT or alpha-tocopherol for example
has shown great efficiency. The maximum peroxide level for
products in use should be 20 mmol/l.
