Upcoming events: February 6th: Mandatory Meeting for 8th grade students going to Heritage AND Independence who want to try out for Cheer or Drill Team. Location: Heritage HS Cafeteria Time: 6:00 PM th th February 20 : 8 graders to the Collin County Career Showcase February 24th and 25th: Counselors visit 6th grade classrooms for 7th grade course registration. February 26th and 27th: Counselors visit 7th grade classrooms for 8th grade course registration. March 7th: Current 6th and 7th grade registration cards are due back. March (Date: TBD) Cheer and Drill Team Tryouts for Heritage and Independence April 29th: 8th grade field trip to the CTE center. May 2nd: Career Day May 9th: Last Day for 8th graders to make changes to their 9th grade course requests. What is AP and Pre-AP? High School AP Classes: AP classes are college level classes and colleges look favorably on AP classes All AP classes use same curriculum across the nation-College Board AP Exam option to earn college credit GPA-6.0 scale means it is a weighted class and counts more than an on-level PAP Classes: Prepare students for rigors of AP classes Follow same College Board standards High level thinking skills that help develop skills, habits and concepts needed to succeed in college and careers. Have open enrollment-any student can enroll Include a faster pace, more depth, and longer/more complex nightly assignments PAP math classes use more application of skills to solve complex problems. PAP ILA classes expect students to have mastered basic reading and writing skills; therefore, written assignments are graded with an expectation of greater depth and development of ideas. Students are expected to participate in discussions on a regular basis and read novels outside of class. Students have a summer reading assignment. PAP Science students are required participate in the science fair. Who Should Sign up for PAP Classes in Middle School?
