Russ wrote: “In recognition of our golden anniversary as an independent diocese of the central coast, Bishop Garcia has commissioned a commemorative book titled The History of the Diocese Monterey. I was able to preview a draft copy of this publication recently and it will be a beautiful addition to any home library. The quality of printing and binding is exceptional. The book contains a full history of the Church in California, our Catholic schools and religious orders, and an account of the establishment of every parish our in diocese. The cost of this volume is $35 and it will be available in either English or Spanish. We must preorder, as there will be only one publishing. It would be helpful to know of your interest. If you notify the parish office that you wish to receive a copy of The History of the Diocese of Monterey, we will reserve a copy for you which you may purchase upon delivery, estimated to be September-October 2016.“ As he stated, we must pre-order, so if you are interested in reserving a copy, please contact the Parish Office before they are all gone..... C are for Creation Remember to care for our resource – TREES! You need to water slowly, allowing the water to sink in, over the whole root area – not just the base of the tree. The City of San Luis is giving away free moisture meters so you can see if your trees are getting enough water. Here is an excerpt from the summer newsletter that you can find here: http://www.slocity.org/home/showdocument?id=10995 Or http://tinyurl.com/hdcp2xe “The roots of an established tree often extend underground even wider than the branches extend above ground. Adding water near the trunk of a mature tree may not reach the roots. Slowly soak the area throughout the root zone to reach the roots below the surface. Allowing water to slowly drip onto the tree’s root zone ensures that the water applied has time to be absorbed into the ground and does not run off into an area where it can’t be captured by the root system of the tree. “ PAGE 3 Mass Intentions Readings For This Week Initials in italics indicate scheduled Presider Listen and remember through Word and Bread Sun, 7/3: Is 66:10-14c; Ps 66:1-7, 16, 20; Gal 6:14-18; Lk 10:1-12, 17-20 Mon, 7/4: Hos 2:16, 17b-18, 21-22; Ps 145:2-9; Mt 9:18-26 Tue, 7/5: Hos 8:4-7, 11-13; Ps 115:3-10; Mt 9:32-38 Wed, 7/6: Hos 10:1-3, 7-8, 12; Ps 105:2-7; Mt 10:1-7 Thur, 7/7: Hos 11:1-4, 8c-9; Ps 80:2ac, 3b, 15-16; Mt 10:7-15 Fri, 7/8: Hos 14:2-10; Ps 51:3-4,8-9,12-14,17; Mt 10:16-23 Sat, 7/9: Is 6:1-8; Ps 93:1-2, 5; Mt 10:24-33 Sun, 7/10: Dt 30:10-14; Ps 69:14,17,30-31,33-34, Col 1:15-20; Lk 10:25-37 Confused Catholic? For families with rising 2nd year teen candidates, please watch for the yearly schedule which will be sent out towards the end of summer. L R EFLECTION OF THE WEEK July 3, 2016 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus sent out seventy-two disciples to spread the Good News and continue the work Jesus had begun. They had not yet experienced the Good News of the resurrection, but following Jesus, they proclaimed that the Kingdom of God was at hand and healed the sick. Jesus had them pack light, taking only peace with them. Whatever town they entered and whatever home, they were to greet the people with peace, even if the people did not want to hear what they had to say. When the seventy-two returned, they were most pleased by the fact that they had power over evil forces. Jesus told them not to think so much about that as the fact that they had already been assured of salvation. Reflection question: Adult: Where do you see the message of Christian faith being rejected in the world today? What is your response to that? Child: What can you do when you are generous with others, and they do not want what you give them? ist of Music for 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Entrance Chant: Reflection and questions from RCL Benziger. http://rclblectionary.com # 207 God, We Praise You Kyrie: # 924 Mass of Spirit and Grace Gloria: # 925 Mass of Spirit and Grace SATURDAY JULY 2 7:00 (BV) †Mary Flor Serpa, Family & Friends 5:30 (JN) †Nicolas M. People are excited by the message of the book, that there is a solution for the coming global water crisis. Google the author and read about it. Israel overcame an insurmountable obstacle and now the country actually exports water and tech knowledge! Best wishes for a very happy Fourth of July. Drive safely and ENJOY!! A nnual Ministries Appeal ALMOST THERE! As of June 27th, we have received 129 pledges totalling $ 39,395, which is just under 95% of our Diocesan goal of $41,600. We still need $ 2,205 to meet our goal. Any funds received over that amount will be returned to the parish. If you have not yet made your pledge, envelopes are available in the church, or at the parish office. Call 781-8220. You can also pledge for our parish on the Diocesan Web site: www.dioceseofmonterey.org Click on “Give” at the top of the page, and then on Give to the Annual Appeal. We need help in securing items for gift basket and a few live auction gifts. Can you help? Phone help, picking up items, making the gift baskets, asking those businesses that you know to provide items for the baskets. These are just a few of the ways you can help. Please leave your name with the Parish Office, 781-8220, and someone will contact you. E lementary Faith Formation Happy Summer. Here are some water conservation tips for kids! • Instead of leaving water running the whole time you brush your teeth, just turn the faucet on to get your toothbrush and toothpaste wet, and then again at the end when rinsing. • Do the same when you wash your hands. There’s no need for the water to run while you’re lathering up, so just turn water on for wetting and rinsing. And remember to shut the water off completely when you’re done. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S.
