CONSULTING ENGINEERS CEO APPOINTED CHAIR OF ALLIANCE AND MEMBER OF ONTARIO PLACE BOARD
Barry Steinberg, P. Eng., CEO of Consulting Engineers Ontario and Past Chair of
the PEO Government Liaison Committee has been appointed to two prominent
new positions.
He is the 2015-16 Chair of the Construction and Design Alliance of Ontario
(CDAO). He has also been appointed to the Board of Directors of Ontario Place
by the Government of Ontario.
The CDAO is an organization that brings together organizations and alliances
with mandates connected to the development of Ontario Infrastructure
Ontario Place has been undergoing renovations following a government
decision in 2012 to transform the site into a new provincial landmark. It is
expected to open with a new urban park and waterfront trail in 2016.

NEW PEO GLC CHAIR TO PARTICIPATE IN TAKE YOUR MPP TO WORK DAY IN KINGSTON
KINGSTON - PEO Kingston Chapter GLC Chair Hafiz Bashir,
P.Eng., will host Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala at
the Chapter’s Take your MPP to Work Day on March 13.
It will be held at the Bombardier Transportation Systems
Engineering Site from 12pm to 2pm.
PEO Government Liaison Committee Chair Darla Campbell
P.Eng., will also be participating in the event. She was elected as
GLC Chair last month.
Ms. Kiwala was elected in last June’s provincial election and is
the former Chief of Staff to Kingston and the Islands MP Ted
Hsu.
This will be PEO’s 6th Take Your MPP to Work Day. Previous
events have been held in Welland, Oakville, Sarnia, London and
Toronto.

RICHMOND HILL - PEO East Central Regional
Councillor Changiz Sadr, P.Eng., attended a
reception hosted by Minister of Research
and Innovation and Training, Colleges and
Universities Reza Moridi MPP (Richmond
Hill) on February 18 at LeParc Banquet Hall
in Thornhill.
Finance Minister Charles Sousa MPP
(Mississauga South) was the guest speaker
at the reception.
Also in attendance were former PEO
Councillor Márta Ecsedi, P. Eng., Sandro
Perruzza, CEO of the Ontario Society of
Professional Engineers (OSPE), Richmond Hill

OTTAWA ENGINEERS PARTICIPATE IN ENERGY MINISTER’S FAMILY DAY SKATING EVENT
OTTAWA – Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli MPP
(Ottawa West-Nepean) hosted a Family Skating
Day on February 16 at the Centrepointe skating
rink in Ottawa.
Participants included Hubert Mamba, EIT, who
has spent the last several years in active roles
with the PEO Ottawa Chapter.

Mr. Chiarelli is the former Mayor of Ottawa and
a long-time MPP having originally served in the
1980s and 1990s before his return to the
legislature in 2010.
He is a big supporter of PEO and its initiatives.

reception at the University Club in Toronto on February 18.

PEO 2015 COUNCIL ELECTIONS CLOSE TODAY
PEO Council elections finish today. Voting is open until February 27 at 4pm.
Seventeen candidates are seeking office for eight posts. A number of candidates have referred to the GLP in
their platforms, which indicates the growing importance of the program as an important part of PEO’s
regulatory mandate.
All-candidate meetings were held on January 12 and 13. They can be viewed online on the PEO website
(http://www.snwebcastcenter.com/custom_events/peo-2015/site/index.php). Voting takes place by phone
or online anytime between now and February 27.
