2014 ENROLMENTS
Do you have a child who will turn 5 by April 30
next year? If so the child is eligible to start
school now is the time to enrol. Please contact
the school on 9366 2071 so that an enrolment
package can be sent home and to make an
appointment to meet with me to discuss your
child’s start to school life.
We will be conducting an orientation program at
the beginning of term 4 so it is important to
enrol now so that we can include your child in
this program.
Parent Opinion Survey
Each year the Department makes a random selection of parents to receive a survey to complete about the school. This is an opportunity for
you to make comment about many aspects of
this school. The survey is anonymous and not
opened by the school, but rather sent to an independent company to be processed. Thankyou to the families who returned this survey….
What you have to say is important to us.
School Connect – Providing schools with
Konnective: a smartphone communication
solution.
Konnective is a mobile app solution that will
allow us to communicate with you, our parents,
Important Dates

5 September– District Athletics

straight to your smartphone. We will be sending
news, events, photos and more so that you can be
even more connected with your children’s activities
and events at the school. Using the Konnective app,
you can add events directly to your phone's calendar, set reminders for things you need to do and
receive important alerts (similar to a text message)
as soon as they are released.
Via the app, we can send communication to specific
grade levels, so you will receive information specific
to your child’s grade as well as general news,
events and updates that will go to everyone. This
will extend and enhance our existing communications (e.g. Newsletter, website).
To access Konnective, please provide your email
address and name to the school by completing the
form attached to the newsletter. If you have already
supplied your email address to the school but do not
wish to be involved in this initiative please let the
office staff know by Friday 9 August.
National Consistent Collection of Data – Schools
students with disability
All Australian governments have agreed to work
together to implement a new annual national data
collection on school students with disability. This
data collection process is being phased in over a
three year period in 2013-2015.
The following information will be collected annually
at the school level:

the level of adjustment provided;

the number of students receiving each level
of adjustment to enable them to participate in
education on the same basis as other students; and

where known, the student’s type of disability.
An adjustment is a measure or action taken to assist a
student with disability to participate in education on the
same basis as other students. Adjustments can be
made across the whole school setting, in the classroom
and at the individual level.

It is intended that the data collected about students with
disability will be published on the My School website
and in other national reports on schooling from 2016 onwards.

without the students I would not have had such a great career. Thankyou to all the students that have attended this wonderful school, you
make coming to work a pleasure. Daily you would greet me by saying
hello and if I was at the local shops you would always be polite and
say hello there too. Please embrace your education as Education is
the key to your future. One day you will look back and thank your educators for all they did to help you on your journey in life.
Ann Degabriele (Former Business Manager) and
Doris Vella’s (former Canteen Manager) Retirement
Function
On Thursday 1 August the school formally acknowledged and farewelled Ann Degabriele and Doris Vella
who combined have contributed over 50 years to
SAEPS. Ann having worked at the school for over 30
years and Doris for almost 20 years. Both ladies had
also volunteered as parent helpers in the school prior to
commencing work here.
The students organised with their teachers an amazing
assembly paying tribute to both ladies through songs,
poems and presentations. Thank you to our wonderful
school captains (Georgia North-Coombes & Kevin Mai)
and vice captains (Nancy Nguyen & Booker Johnstone)
who did a terrific job of hosting the ceremony.
An afternoon tea was held with invited guest following
the assembly. Both Ann and Doris were extremely
pleased and humbled by the experience.
Ann Degabriele asked that the following extract from her
speech be included in the school newsletter:
I would like to thank everyone who has gone to such
lengths, time and effort to put this farewell together for
Doris and me.

YEAR 3-6 HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The St Albans East PS Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday, August 23rd, on
the school oval. The carnival is a great opportunity for our students to compete in sporting
events and show off their athletic skills. Year 3-6 students have been busy during PE
lessons working on improving their athletics skills in readiness for the event. The students
have had experience with high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hurdles and
running. All students have been placed in Houses for the event. Students are encouraged to
come to school wearing their house colour on this day.
Students who perform well will have the opportunity to represent our school at the
St Albans District Schools Athletics Carnival to be held on Thursday, September 5th at
Keilor Athletic Field.
Parents are invited to attend on this day to watch and encourage the
children as they compete. If you would like to know more about the
event, contact me at school.
