Voglio estendere i miei piu’ sinceri
auguri ai Membri del consiglio
che sono stati rieletti, ed i nuovi
Membri del consiglio che sono stati eletti per i prossimi 3
anni.
Voglio ringraziare immensamente i membri del consiglio
uscenti per la loro dedicazione e per l’instancabile lavoro
che hanno fatto per il Club, sono certo che ci mancheranno,
veramente grazie. Gentili Soci sono lieto informarvi che il 2015 e’ stato un’
altro Anno produttivo per il nostro Club, questo e’ il 14
esimo anno che l’operazione del Club registra profitto,
inoltre della riduzione del debito e di aver mantenuto il
Club in ottime condizioni, in merito di questo voglio
ringraziare l’amministrazione, tutti i nostri dipendenti, tutti
vari gruppi e tutti voi Soci per la vostra partecipazione.
Spero di vedervi tutti agli eventi invernali, vi incoraggio
di far partecipare i vostri figli e nipoti alle attivita’ che il
Club offre e promuovere ai vostri amici il nostro Club per
le loro esigense festive di ogni tipo, voi siete il portavoce
del successo del nostro Club.
E’ un onore per me di rappresentare voi Soci per i prossimi
3 anni come vostro Presidente e faro’ il migliore della mia
abilita’per gl’ interessi del Club, chiedo il vostro appoggio

Dear Members,
In this informative letter I take this opportunity to greet
and wish you and all and all your families a Happy New
Year full of health and serenity.
I want to extend my most sincere good wishes to the
members of the Board who were re-elected and to the
new members of the Board who have been elected for the
next 3 years.
I want to thank, immensely, the outgoing members of the
Board for their dedication and the tireless work they have
done for the Club. I am sure that we will miss them.
Thank you!
Dear Members, I am pleased to inform you that 2015 has
been another productive year for our Club. This is the
14th year that the operation of the Club records profits .
This, along with the reduction of the debt , has kept the
Club in very good condition. In relation to this, I would
like to thank the administration, all our employees, all the
various groups and all of the Members for your
participation.
I hope to see you all at the winter events. I encourage you
to involve your children and grandchildren to take part in
the activities that the Club offers and to promote our Club
to your friends for their festivity needs of every type. You
are the spokespersons for the success of our Club!
It is an honour for me to represent you, the Members for
the next 3 years. As your President I will work to the best
of my ability for the interests of the Club. I would ask for
your support to see that the vision of our Founders
continues for the purpose in which this Club was founded
and pass it on to our future generations.

Paese storico della Ciociaria:
Sorta sulle ultime terre dei Volsci, originariamente rifugio di pastori, Pico
è situata a 194 metri sul livello del mare, su di un colle che dai monti
Ausoni si affaccia alla pianura del Liri: è circondata da colline immerse in
una natura ricca di boschi e pascoli, mentre vite ed ulivo costituiscono le
colture più diffuse. Non è del tutto chiara l’etimologia del suo nome attuale:
tra le varie teorie la più accreditata lo fa derivare da Pico, figlio di Saturno,
al quale i Prischi, antichi abitatori del luogo, qui avrebbero innalzato
un’ara. Notevoli i resti del suo poderoso sistema difensivo, il quale, ancora
oggi, dall’alto dell’abitato, domina la vallata e le colline circostanti. Non
sono pochi i luoghi di culto, i quali fanno fede della religiosità dei Picani,
e tra questi ricordiamo in particolare la chiesa parrocchiale dedicata a
Sant’Antonino, patrono della città. Particolare per il suo fenomeno ad
intermittenza, la fonte “Petescia” ha un flusso limitato a tre brevissimi
periodi coincidenti con l’alba, mezzogiorno ed il tramonto. Per tutti gli
appassionati di motori, della provincia e non solo, è appuntamento
assolutamente da non perdere il Rally di Pico, gara automobilistica
valevole per il campionato italiano.
Pico, founded of the last lands of the Volscians, was originally a shepherds’
refuge. It is situated 194 m above sea level, on a peak of the Ausoni
mountains that looks onto the Liri valley. The town is surrounded by hills
immersed in a nature rich with woods and pastures. Vine and olive are the
most cultivated plants. The etymology of its current name is not very clear.
The most authoritative theory says that Pico was the son of the God Satum
to whom the ancient inhabitants of the village, the “Prischi”, had devoted

a shrine. The ruins of its old and mighty defensive bastions that still
dominate the town, the valley and the surrounding hills are very
remarkable. There are also a lot of places of worship that testify to
the deep faith of the local population. The parish church dedicated
to St. Antoninus, the Patron Saint of the town, is noteworthy.
Another thing that must be mentioned is the strange phenomenon of
the “Petescia” spring which flows intermittently only for three short
periods of the day: at dawn, midday and sunset. For all the motor
racing lovers, from this and from other provinces, the Pico rally is
an appointment not to be missed. The competition is valid for the
Italian championship.

PRESEPE VIVENTE / LIVE NATIVITy
An emotional Maria Di Gioia, introduced the Live Presentation of the
Nativity on Sunday December 6, paying tribute to her late husband, Ercole,
who laid the groundwork for this production from the very beginning. The
chapel was filled with people ready to see this year's play. Maria, along with
the help of the S. Gerardo Group and Ciociaro Club Director, Armando
Carlini proceeded to present a wonderful performance, once again putting on
a spectacular re-enactment of the story of the Birth of Jesus!
The play was narrated in English and Italian by SILVANA PATELLA and
LORETTA GABR, respectively. The Angel Gabriel was acted with much
expression by newcomer NICHOLAS MANDATO. Our new Joseph was
portayed by ITALO PATELLA and Mary, once again, was the wonderful
LAURA D'AGNOLLO. Cousin Elizabeth and her husband Zacchariah were
played by ERSILIA CERVI and TONY MUCCIACCIO. QUIRINO
GESUALE was King Herod and LUIGI QUATTRINI announced Herod's
decree with conviction!
We had soldiers guarding Herod's palace ...SANTINO IMPERIOLI,
NAZZARENO CONTE, JOE VISELLI and JOE DE BENEDETTI.
In the role as Innkeepers were.. LUIGI NORCIA, ENZO PAPPINI, TONY
DI DOMENICO, DONATO BOCCAROSSA and NATALE ROMA.
We also had the Three Kings/Magi.. TONY DI DOMENICO, DONATO
BOCCAROSSA and NATALE ROMA
People bearing gifts for the Holy Family
were .. ANNA VITTI, PALMERINA
NORCIA, ROSA TETI, PATRICIA
MANDATO, DOMENICA IMPERIOLI
and ROSA CONTE.
The VOCI CIOCIARE brought candles
and poinsettias as they sang Adeste
Fideles and Tu Scendi dalle Stelle. They
ended with We Wish You a Merry
Christmas!
Maria Di Gioia thanked everyone and
Armando Carlini concluded by inviting
all to stay for a dinner in the Club hall!
We hope to see you all again next year
and perhaps a few more actors would
like to take part! As you can see by the
list, some people had to take on dual roles and the organizers can always
use more volunteers who are willing to help.
Thank you to all the cast and the organizers and of course to those who came
to see this wonderful presentation!

BURSARIES 2016
Applications for the 2016 Student Bursary program have been available
at the Ciociaro Club office since Monday, December 15th, 2015. The
deadline for submission is February 16th, 2016 and the eligibility
requirements are as follows:
• A member in good standing of the Ciociaro Club for a minimum
of one year, as at February 16th, 2016 (a Junior member is
sufficient, but a Social member is not);
• A full time secondary school student who is graduating and has
applied to be enrolled as a first year student in a recognized
University or Community College.
Only one Ciociaro Club bursary per Applicant will be awarded (for the
first year of post-secondary education). Applicants who are selected as
recipients of a bursary automatically become ineligible to qualify for
any other bursaries offered by the Ciociaro Club.

BATTLE OF THE BRAINS
On Friday, January 15th, the Club once again teamed up with the Alzheimer Society of Windsor-Essex County to organize and host
the annual Battle of the Brains Dinner and Trivia Challenge fundraiser. Family, friends and co-workers enjoyed a fun-filled evening
with great food and trivia, with our own Jack Ramieri as quizmaster, for a wonderful cause. With over 800 people in attendance this
year, this event is now the second largest live quiz fundraiser in all of North America.
THE WEDDING ODySSEy
The 16th annual Wedding Odyssey took place January 9th & 10th at the Ciociaro Club. The Wedding Odyssey invites engaged
couples to meet exceptional businesses in the wedding industry from Windsor and Essex County all under one roof. This two-day
event features two fashions shows per day and chances to win fabulous prizes. The next wedding show, The Bridal & Event Expo,
takes place April 27 & 28 at the Ciociaro Club.

Tommaso landolfi
Tommaso Landolfi nacque a Pico, in provincia di
Frosinone, il 9 agosto 1908 da famiglia nobile fedele
per lungo tempo ai Borbone. Landolfi si autodefinì un
"rappresentante genuino della gloriosa nobiltà
meridionale". Nel 1932 si laurea in lingua e letteratura
russa all'Università di Firenze discutendo una tesi sulla
poetessa Anna Achmatova. Sempre a Firenze
collabora a diverse riviste quali Letteratura e Campo
di Marte.
Nel 1937 esce la prima raccolta di racconti, precedentemente apparsi su riviste,
Dialogo dei massimi sistemi. A questi seguono diversi altri racconti, tra il
fantastico e il grottesco, che caratterizzano la produzione del primo Landolfi,
tra i quali spicca la novella gotica Racconto d'autunno, del 1947. Evidente già
dalle prime opere è il tema della vanità dell'agire umano, trattato con una
apparente e spesso divertita leggerezza, che può però trasformarsi in
disperazione e delirio romantico quando si autocompiace nella propria ironica
tristezza.
Fatta eccezione per brevi soggiorni all'estero, la vita di Landolfi si svolge per
lo più tra Roma, le case da gioco di San Remo e Venezia e la residenza di
famiglia a Pico Farnese. Nonostante un'esistenza appartata e lontana dai salotti
intellettuali e mondani, il suo lavoro è riconosciuto da Giorgio Bassani e Mario
Soldati, da Eugenio Montale, Carlo Bo e Italo Calvino, che ne curerà una
antologia nel 1982. In particolare, Calvino sull'atteggiamento di Landolfi scrive:
« Il rapporto di Landolfi con la letteratura come con l'esistenza è sempre duplice:
è il gesto di chi impegna tutto se stesso in ciò che fa e nello stesso tempo il gesto
di chi butta via.
Il demone del gioco, assieme ad altri motivi autobiografici, sono al centro delle
opere diaristiche La bière du pécheur (1953), Rien va (1963) e Des mois (1967).
Nel 1975 vince il premio Strega con A caso.
È stato collaboratore fisso del settimanale Oggi di Arrigo Benedetti (19391941). Più tarde sono invece le collaborazioni con Il Mondo di Pannunzio e il
Corriere della Sera.
Si ammala di una lunga e dolorosa malattia, complice il clima rigido e umido
di Pico, dal quale cerca sollievo a Sanremo e Rapallo. A marzo 1978 è già al
terzo ricovero, presso l'ospedale di Sanremo, per un ennesimo attacco di cuore,
al quale segue la ricerca dell'isolamento e della solitudine. E in solitudine,
mentre la figlia si assenta per poche ore, è colpito da enfisema polmonare: si
spegne a Ronciglione, presso Roma, l'8 luglio 1979.
Francobollo dedicato allo scrittore
Dal 1992, le maggiori opere, pubblicate in precedenza da Vallecchi ed altri
editori e ormai fuori catalogo, vengono ripubblicate dalla casa editrice Adelphi
a cura di Idolina Landolfi, figlia dell'autore. Nel 1996, sotto la presidenza della
stessa, nasce il Centro Studi Landolfiani, che pubblica il bollettino «Diario
perpetuo».

INGREDIENTS
4 tbsp + 1 tbsp extra-virgin
olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large carrot, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
salt, to taste
1 cup white wine
450g ground beef
2 cups beef stock
500 g Tagliatelle
INSTRUCTIONS
In a pan, heat olive oil. Add
carrots, onions, celery, salt and
sauté. Once the vegetables are
softened, add half the wine and let
it reduce for a few minutes.
Remove your soffritto from the
pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add more olive oil
over medium heat and cook
ground beef until browned. Add
salt to help release moisture. Add
the rest of the wine to beef mixture
and let reduce. Once cooked,
combine with soffritto in a large
pot. Add beef stock. Reduce heat
and cook on low for two hours.
Just before the ragu is ready, bring
a large pot of salted water and cook
pasta until al dente. Combine with
ragu and a bit of reserved pasta
water and serve. Servings: 4 to 6.
