Dear Friends,
This weekend we celebrate the feast of our Patron- Bartholomew. He was one of the 12 Apostles who left
everything to follow Jesus.
After the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, Bartholomew
by tradition- preached in India and Greater Armenia, where he was skinned alive and beheaded by King
Astyages. In the life of Bartholomew we see how much he loved Jesus – even in his suffering and death.
We also celebrate the life of this great parish of Saint Bartholomew, established here in Elmhurst Queens in
1906. Today, 108 years later this parish continues to grow and witness to our love for Jesus and His
Church. Since our “feast day” last year look at how many children have been baptized, received
first communion and Confirmation. Also, adults who have received the sacrament of marriage this past
year! These numbers, while impressive still do not fully show the vitality and renewal our parish is
experiencing. I know I speak for the priests, religious sisters and staff here when I say…THANK YOU! To
each and every one of you who make this parish so beautiful! May God continue to bless us:

Queridos amigos,
Este fin de semana celebramos la fiesta de nuestro patrono, Bartolomé. Fue uno de los doce Apóstoles que
dejó todo para seguir a Jesús. Después de la resurrección y ascensión de Jesús, Bartolomé –según la
tradición– predicó en la India y en la Gran Armenia, en donde fue despellejado vivo y decapitado por el rey
Astiages. En la vida de Bartolomé vemos lo mucho que amaba a Jesús, incluso en su sufrimiento y muerte.
También celebramos la vida de esta gran parroquia de San Bartolomé, establecida aquí en Elmhurst de
Queens en 1906. Hoy, 108 años más tarde esta parroquia sigue creciendo y siendo testimonio de nuestro
amor por Jesús y Su Iglesia. Vea cuántos niños han sido bautizados, recibieron la Primera Comunión y la
Confirmación desde nuestra "festividad" del año pasado. ¡Además, los adultos que han recibido
el sacramento del matrimonio este pasado año! Estas cifras, aunque impresionantes, todavía no muestran
plenamente la vitalidad y la renovación que nuestra parroquia está experimentando. Sé que hablo en
nombre de los sacerdotes, hermanas religiosas y personal cuando digo... ¡GRACIAS! ¡A todos y cada uno de
ustedes que hacen esta parroquia tan hermosa! Que Dios continúe bendiciéndonos:

PARISH ENVELOPES: Many registered parishioners have not received their envelopes for this
month. We are sorry about that and are working
with the envelope company to rectify the situation. It seems this is a local problem with our
postal service. If you have not received envelopes, please call the office and we will send you
temporaries. Thank you for your patience.
SIGN UP FOR ADULT SACRAMENTS
We welcome adults 18 and over who are in need
of receiving their sacraments of initiation
(Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) to our
parish! The process is called Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It’s a weekly
preparation program that will assist you in your
faith formation and prepare you for the
sacraments to be received at the Easter Vigil.
There are some requirements necessary before
entering this program. We will offer two
information sessions which will answer all your
questions! The sessions will take place Sunday,
September 14 after the 10 a.m. mass (English)
and after the 11:30 a.m. mass (Spanish) in the
faith formation office (Judge St) For more

NEWBORNS - NEW LIFE
We congratulate Jose Del Valle (our Spanish
cantor) and his wife Alejandra on the birth of
their son! We also congratulate Sister Lucy and
her family on the birth of her new nephew!
ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2014
PLEDGED:$105,200 RECEIVED: $51,000
As you can see we have surpassed our pledged goal of $86,000.
We still have a ways to go in order to receive that money. Please
be faithful to your monthly pledge. It’s very important to include
your pledge card in the envelope when mailing. Also, if you are
able consider paying off your pledge as soon as you can. If you still
have not made a pledge to the appeal – please do so. For more
information and to answer any questions you may have, contact

THIS WEEKEND’S SECOND COLLECTION: THIS weekend the
second collection is “our gift to St Bart’s Parish” as we
celebrate our patronal feast. We are asking all families to
consider a gift of $20 or more in this special collection. We
are in the process of purchasing new music books for our
English and Spanish communities. These new hymnals will
cost over $11,000. These new music books will enhance our
music selections for Sunday masses. If you did not receive
the envelopes by mail, they are available at the entrance to
the churches this weekend.

The Legion of Mary
Will celebrate Mass remembering the birth of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. A procession will follow the Mass
and refreshments will be served in Heafey Hall.

SUMMER MISSIONARY
Last weekend we welcomed Fr Vidal who preached to us on the
mission in South Africa and his communities work with the Zulu
tribe. Once again, your generosity was exceptional! The second
collection raised $7,069. The order of the Servants of Mary
(Servites) and the Zulu tribe Catholics thank you for your help!

Sunday. He will be visiting his family for a few weeks in Cuba
and then will return to Rome as Professor in the Salesian
University. We thank Father for all his help and wish him God’s
blessings in his ministry. We will have a reception for
Fr Humberto this Thursday after the 7:30pm mass in Heafey hall.

SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS
SEGUNDA COLECTA ESTE FIN DE SEMANA 8/23-8/24
¡Invitamos a los adultos de 18 años o más
quienes están necesitando recibir los
sacramentos de iniciación (Bautizo, Eucaristía y
Confirmación) ennuestra parroquia! El proceso se
llama Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos
(RICA). Es un programa semanal que los prepara
en la formación en la fe y los prepara para los
sacramentos que se recibían en la Vigilia Pascual.
Hay algunos requisitos necesarios antes de participar en este programa. ¡Estaremos ofreciendo
dos sesiones informativas durante las cuales le
contestamos todas sus preguntas! Las sesiones
tendrán lugar ESTE Domingo, 14 de Septiembre
después de la misa de las 10 AM (ingles) y
después de la misa de las 11:30 AM (español) en
la Oficina de Formación en la Fe (Calle Judge).

Después de haber estado con nosotros durante
cinco semanas, el P. Humberto partirá el próximo domingo.
Él va a visitar a su familia en Cuba durante unas pocas
semanas y luego regresará a Roma como profesor en la
Universidad Salesiana. Le agradecemos al padre por toda
su ayuda y le deseamos bendiciones de Dios en su
ministerio. Tendremos una recepción para el
P. Humberto este jueves después de la Misa de 7:30pm
en el Heafey hall.

MISIÓN DE VERANO

El último fin de semana le dimos la bienvenida al
P. Vidal quien nos predicó sobre la misión en Sudáfrica
y sus trabajos comunitarios con la tribu Zulu.
